Destiny sure does have me by the short hairs. Haven't been this addicted since GW2 release, and prior to that PSO1 on Dreamcast.

If you pay for it, great. Which you can do by selling in game gold for the sub.
Having a house is fun (almost there) and the amount of side activities you can do is staggering. Fishing, buried treasure (!), harvesting, husbandry, logging, carpentry, in depth crafting, with smart stuff for armor and weapons like just upgrading a weapon instead of making a new one, alchemy, there's a casino (think Golden Saucer ff7), arena PvP, team arena, world PvP in zones, which can truce to help PVE players quest, a jail system with trials where you can be a juror and get items for participating,
I could go on and on.
Oh man I just left out my favorite part, the class system. You merge three trees into a combat style you want to play, then you can equip any weapon or armor regardless of what you chose, the best part is you get benefits for wearing a partial or full set of a type, i.e. plate armor gives you more health, defense, and reduces stun.
I don't know why but I'd put in a buy order for a bank access contract, I've relisted it now but already at a loss hehe. Oh and I had 20 BL keys in my inventory for some reason too
Destiny is indeed pretty darn addictive. Anything with collecting has me wrapped around its little finger though.
Gone. They aggressively kick AFKs now and have been doing server restarts and bot banning. Game's OT is a misnomer now.

Has anyone figured out how to unlock diving goggles for those that were high level before the update or do we just have to play the waiting game?

Any chance I can join the guild? I'm Piercedveil.2580 in game and my character is Piercedavelli.
My only problem is that it looks like I can't change my world to the one you guys play on since I have a homeworld set from the last time I played. It's okay if I just guest to other worlds though, right?

You can join the guild and an officer will invite you as soon as they read this.
you will be able to join us in most activity's save for WvW.
But if you still have only just started and your character(s) are still low level , you can simply delete them all and you can choose a server again if there is no reason to stay on that one (friends etc..)
if not you will have to pay for a transfer.
your gold and anything you put in your vault will come along with you
Also your characters name is saved for 24 hours so you can reuse it on your new character.

Yeah, that is also why I loved Guild Wars 1 so much. And to be honest I like Pre-Searing Ascalon much more than anything in Guild Wars 2, heh.
Will try to play it a bit more in the next few weeks. Probably if my friends sticks to it will help him out a bit. But we are both in the guild so, we can ask someone else to help us also.

.If GW2 required me to play just to keep up with the Joneses like every other damn MMO out there, I wouldn't play it. It wouldn't even be about getting my money's worth if they theoretically had a subscription, it's that my time is more valuable to me than that. I get to play Guild Wars 2 on my terms, which doesn't sound like that big of a deal until you remember some MMOs start to become second jobs all too quickly.

will post here since the trial thread seems kinda dead
1. is the a way to switch over to a different server? I know I can transfer but i'm not paying for that, or is it just account characters and then you choose which world you are on permanently? the one I'm on atm seems kinda on the dead side (underworld EU iirc), I picked that one ages ago when they did the first trial and didn't think about it now
only have a 9 ele and a 7 guardian on it so if I delete both can I get to choose a whole new world to be my main?
2. what's up with hearts? I thought those are shared like the rest but I've seen people kill stuff in front of me and my bar didn't go up, do i just have a bad memory? kinda remember it being so everyone that contributed filled the same bar but now only my contribution counts towards my heart, event i see are still shared
like said maybe I'm just remembering it wrong
3. what the fuck happened to the personal story thingy? I remember on my guardian ages ago I had a quest line about my personal story that I did in addition to hearts, did they remove it or does it just start latter?
4. why am i constantly 1 level below what the hearts suggest -.- feels like I'm doing something wrong... atm I have 2 hearts to choose from both are 10 and I'm 9

You can transfer for free if you delete all the characters on the account. As far as I know this hasn't changed, but might want to look it up first just to be sure.
Hearts are global, but you still need to hit mobs for them to count for you. Not all hearts involve killing though.
Personal story starts at level 10 now and will run for a full chapter instead of splicing it into every two levels.
I wouldn't sweat a minor level difference. Its more of a suggestion. Some starter zones flow worse than others.

So I stayed up later than I should have last night figuring out the Xbox 360 controller for this game (as excellently laid out in the OP).... it takes a bit to get used to, like for some reason it wasn't rolling at first, but instead when I'd press the dodge button, it'd take me out of camera mode and force me into pointer mode... then some combo of button presses got me into fighting mode like I wanted to be. Overall, very interesting and quite fluid feeling.. I just need to commit the buttons to muscle memory. I have input lag because I play on my TV in the living room and use a wireless mouse and keyboard on the couch. This whole controller thing could be a game changer for me. Kinda excited to get off work today and go play around with it.
Just wanted to add : i don't know how much is in there currently but if you are serious about moving to SBI the guild has it's own transfer fund we can use to transfer you over .
Ask Hawkian or Retro about it .
The only need for being on the same server is for WvW, right?
Yes but he is on a EU server and therefore cannot guest on an NA server due to different Datacenters .
Which means we can talk to him on guild chat but he cannot play with us .

nah thanks it's just a trial account no need to waste funds on that ^^ especially since with WoD coming up I won't have the money to buy the full version any time soon anyway
Is this true Retro/Hawk? I've know I've spoken about transferring in guild chat before but I wasn't aware we had these kind of resources?
What are the rules surrounding it? Happy to make a contribution if this is still a thing.

Oh gods, nearly-pve spec ranger really is hilarious in random pvp. Even with nearly no practice, just by baiting people into spending their dodges, then rapidfire fearknockbacking them everywhere you can drop mofos left and right. Ain't even funny against eles. 1500 range is a harsh mistress.

Another thing. If you start cooking at level 3? A hair under lvl 16 when it hits 400, so just cooking allows you to skip most of the new horrendously boring parts of the new leveling curve.

You've made me so happy Dave. Hopefully the camera reset feature that makes aiming AoE skills a joy is functioning for you. (If you press the Back button, your cursor should jump back to a center-high point).
That's my solution (created alongside WeltallZero). It was indeed a game changer for me, and you are right on the money- you get it down to muscle memory and you are golden. I've used it for the toughest content in the game, for PvP and WvW as well. Just watch how effortlessly it translates to playing another class if you start one

We can pool funds to transfer you. Howeeeever, if you have two characters both below level 10... I say no way. Delete those suckers and start fresh. You can then choose Stormbluff Isle Getting to level 10 seriously takes like an hour now or something

Every time I think to myself "I'll try the controller with the game again" someone comes and starts saying how awesome it is. So I try it again and stop using it after 30 or so minutes. I need to play with it and not try and jump right into WvW when using it like I have in the past. My only problem is AoE targeting for my ele, it felt to cumbersome, but I am willing to give it a shot again. Maybe not tonight if I am able to get on though, WvW reset does not need me trying to fiddle around with a controller.
Just prepare to get a lot of messages from me asking about targeting and such. You have been warned.
I was having positioning problems with the KB/M. The only other MMOs that I've played are WoW, RF Online and Dark Age of Camelot. None of those rely so much on positioning that GW2 does. I picked up the controller config and in the 10 minutes that I played with it last night before I forced myself to go to bed, I could really feel that I'd have a lot easier time strafing around enemies and lighting them up with things like the short sword or greatsword... something I haven't been able to do really well at all since I started. I also found that I could get to my F1-4 keys easier and actually thought about them since on KB/M, I always have a hard time accurately hitting them with the keyboard that I have.
I'm excited to try it out tonight, but I too will have a lot of questions.
Oh, and Hawkian... the AOE seemed to be ok. I would hit the LT and see my reticule and I instantly noticed that its tied to where the camera is pointing, so it makes positioning pretty easy once I sped up my mouse movement option.

The issue I had with the gamepad solution when I tried with my engi, was that whenever I tried to throw my grenades they would always land on my feet, the aoe circle would not move.
The few times it moved, the character would not move, so it just was not right for me. I was probably doing it wrong.

Kos' issue is the same I had for my ele, I am sure I will be able to get used to it and I do like being able to strafe with the controller better then KB&M which is really why I want to try it again. I always end up moving to the right just because of how I use my skills.

The camera script fixes your cursor at a point on your screen. If the AoE circle is appearing at your feet, then you need to adjust the Y value within the script so that it appears more on the horizon.
