Patching still, then going dark to avoid spoilers. But hyped about the chance of a GW1 nostalgia trip. About four hours before I can dig into the story stuff, but PvPvE sounds like what I've dreamed of. Although I imagine there's restrictions and you can't just go kick the shit out of people that are annoying in map chat.\
Probably won't surprise anyone that I give this a solid 3 out of 10. For reference, I gave the last one an 8.
I hated the new zone and thought all the wvwoid stuff got in the way of following the story path too much. Especially the lack of waypoints. When I got walloped a couple of times by events I had no interest in and was trying to avoid it was a pain the arse to get back.
The end instance was nice for a bit but too long. I thought a couple of the battles could have used better clues. Especially the one where you had to get temporary immunity. I only guessed that one because of its similarity to some of the season one stuff. As usual, the final battle went on too long and there was no sense of danger since rez run was a viable tactic the few times I didn't get rezed by the invulnerable NPC
The story itself was OK, but the big revelation at the end of the Peacebringer having the egg just annoyed me since the Dwarf apparently knew it the entire time and just sent us to Glint's place for giggles. He either shouldn't have known or there should have been some other revilation.
I did like the opening bit with the ghosts and thought the library itself was cool. I did like the trick fights in the instance once I figured them out, other than the length.
Stuck at work, won't be able to play for another 11 hours. Most of the impressions from reddit and the official forums have been really positive so far. Please post more impression GAFguild.
As always the environment team knocks it out of the park. The music is top notch once again. Unbelievable that they put out a zone 90% the size of Dry Top in one go with more to come. Really loved all of the call backs to GW1 and the amount of lore is insane. Also, I have to commend ANet for proper introduction of game mechanics, requiring the player to understand them to progress, and then layering them all together for a fight.
Problem with that boss fight was that, it being a purely gimmick fight (which, by itself, is fine), there is no point whatsoever in making the player repeat the exact same damn thing 8-10 times, especially when you're even repeating the same enemy model and, as xeris mentioned, you can just walk right back or be rezzed by the unkillable rez bot if you fail. There is a reason game design involving gimmick fights usually limits itself to repeating the same action 3 times.
Conceptually? Well done. Layer the mechanics one at a time, then combine them.
In execution? Meh.
Those weapons look so much better in game. Went around admiring them yesterday.
The fact that the NPCs have them make it a bit less likely that they are BL weps maybe? No other BL set have been used by NPCs, right? Feels a bit like the Sovereign weps or something like that. May be buyable in some later chapter with special tokens or something. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.
There is so many weapon skins in this game...I think they should start releasing very unique versions of a weapon rather then a whole set. There is already 30+ sets of weapon skins in this game.
What you guys think?
Maybe include a side mission in living story that allows us to get a unique weapon skin that is not part of a set. Might be dated to taking down a big bad guy.
Something else to consider as a guild is digging up bandit boxes. Shovels seem rare, but if you dig one up everyone gets to open it. Maybe we all save some and then have a guild or group digging session for some decent rewards for all.
Also the pings on the map are apparently others digging up a box so run there if you have time between assaults/escorts.

It's already pretty common in a couple maps where I've seen everyone just clotting up at Amber fort digging up boxes. Since you get a bag from each, it's basically a "champ farm." Harmless enough but not focusing on the meta makes that bar take forever to fill. Luckily it's easy enough to find a map more focused on the events if that's what you want.
I like the bosses, generally. Silver and Gold are tough cookies. The 4 legendaries are pretty much zerg fodder, though.
Edit: If we get enough bodies to make a "GAF" map, I think having 2 tags per fort (color coding to match, of course) would be neat. 1 tag for defense/rubble and one for yaks supplies and the roaming vets and other events.
Remember to totally err on the side of spoiler tagging any story bits until Tuesday, 11/11. Not everyone gets to rush through the whole thing as quickly
I'm really pleased that so many guesses, including mine and WoodenPotatoes', were proven correct here. A dragon ally is hype material for me, and while no one can be as cool as Glint, I feel like the story is now completely centered around elements I actually give a shit about. Whether or not the narrative writing improves, that's a massive boon over season 1, and I can't help but notice I didn't spot Scarlet's name once in my first run through of the story missions.
It's awesome to get the experience of the Pact setting up and pushing out the battle lines to the home of an Elder Dragon- it would be like if down in Orr, when we first arrived there was just Fort Trinity and the early part of Straits, and then we advanced the army in "real time." If they sort of follow this through and get to a new, very hostile zone that is home to Mordremoth, I feel like the season finale this time around will be finally realizing a lot of goals from the game launch and the Living World launch, and leave a lot of fun permanent content around to boot.
Not having yet even fully explored it, this release contains new open world PvE elements (speaking of which, does anyone understand why you would want to turn hostile/bandit-allied in the Silverwastes yet?), new instanced boss mechanics, a ton of raw lore and GW1 references, lots of secrets (so much New Krytan everywhere), new armor and rewards to get through gameplay rather than the Gem store, multiple gorgeous new environments, a great score, a revised approach to incentivizing replays (REALLY hope they keep doing this with the rewards- the way you're forced to choose one armor piece per playthrough which then becomes an account unlock because of the Wardrobe system, along with the ability to buy the pieces if you have no desire to replay), plus the pace-shift back into our every-two-week cadence.
I thought the boss encounters were particularly well-designed and didn't overstay their welcome at all, even factoring in the need to learn each encounter for the first time. I had little trouble figuring anything out from the descriptions on enemies and context, and had no need to discover that you could res-rush as I was only downed two or three times in total. At the same time they didn't feel easy, nor could you seriously attempt to brute force your way through some of them at all no matter how many times you died. I'm looking forward to how quickly I can test myself to clear the bosses on my other characters since I can prepare in advance a bit and won't have a learning phase.
A couple other spoilery notes:
No Rytlock at all I was hoping for some word from him and/or Sohothin, but hopefully there's something in the next one and they're not just saving him for a season-victory Deus ex Machina.
The Lost Badges we're collecting are White Mantle badges from GW1.
Was hoping for a little peek into the Abaddon lore we didn't get from the Fractal vote thing. Maybe it is still to come.
Is that Zhaitan's tail in the library? Such a cool asset.
Yes, this will happen. I'm not too familiar with how the zone works yet but I'm thinking Sunday after makeup missions we can take one over. Stay tuned.

Yes. Please save some or all of your shovels for when we can run around as a group- this will benefit others on the map too! I don't know if it would be better to have a separate exploration/digging event or do "shovel runs" during our GAF Assault on Sunday.
I don't even show him at all (he doesn't look too good on anyone I've tried him on) but he happily talks anyway. Maybe a bit strange to have an invisible Replica Job-o-Tron but his comments are just too funny. Can't unequip now!
"Ground-rubbing--complete." when ressing someone is my fav so far.

Can I suggest that we do the GAF Assault on The Silverwastes before missions. I suggest 1pm EST because I have something planned after Guild Mission Make-ups. Anyone have issues with doing it before?
2 hours should be enough to give it a few tries on the zone.

it would be a bad timing for me this weekend. but i dont mind missing on this one, we'll give it another shot sometime in the future, right?
i have a suggestion for organizing guild groups during the week. it only involves a common gathering point between the pact assaults, where after each reset we run to that point and gather there, give ferries and all that kind of stuff.

I have 26 characer birthdays today, on my own birthday. One is from 2012 so she gets the nice gift.
So one nice gift and 25 more mini Queen Jennah to add to my previous 15. Happy birthday to me!

Heh. I have 15 characters created between release and november 2012. Then 25 characters created on nov 5th 2013 (I got a bunch of gems and money on my birthday last year for that). So the 15 other Jennahs are from last year, and now I got 25 more.
I also have 5 more characters made this year. Don't remember when Looking forward to 5 more Jennahs next year to complete the collection!
