Terrible advice. She shouldn't spend her time camping a short bow if she wants to learn to play the class.
Pve is a faceroll on a thief. Grab a sword and a pistol. Use pistol five (Black Powder) to blind everything. Smoke screen can also be used to blind foes that come in groups larger than five enemies. Auto-attack til death. If not in need of conditional removal or the evade from pistol whip switch to dagger/pistol or dagger/dagger.

Ascended weapons are definitely worth getting, and the trinkets and such are fairly easy to get. When it comes to armor, not so much. Unless you're doing really high fotm, super competitive in WvW, or just want the best stats, it's not needed.

There has been two years worth of content, a year's worth you missed due to it being temporary. There was never a gear treadmill (Ascended is not required, or even needed, or even desirable, for 99% of the content).
So, since you missed Season 1, there is at least the entire Season 2, two new zones, and more. The zones are free, Season 2 you'll have to unlock. It's about $20 for 8+ hours worth of content. It would be free, had you logged in when each episode went live, as they then unlocked for you for free forever. They are 200 gems per episode, so you can unlock them with gold. Or, if you don't want the achievements/rewards, you can just play through them with someone who has them unlocked already.

Even blind spamming doesn't make PvE faceroll for a Thief. Especially during leveling when you don't have the luxury of speccing for damage. Smoke Screen is a Tier 3 Utility, so you don't gain access to it until higher levels unless you've been farming SP's or using SP items from other characters.
SB doesn't depend on a build to be effective, it has the best group utility of all the weapons, and it's mobility is invaluable. It's a solid alternate weapon for any build and very useful in group activities like DE's and Dungeons.
Learning the timing and instincts to play D/D, D/P, or P/D is something that can be done in conjunction with a full spec build after hitting 80. Trying to learn it while leveling is much more frustrating and WILL lead to more deaths. I say that as a Thief who leveled the entirety of 1-80 using P/D as my primary set while experimenting with S/P and D/D before eventually settling on SB as an alternate.
With a Thief, you're just better off using a dependable weapon set that isn't as frustrating to play through the content and then experimenting with the others once you have the ability to spec to their strengths.
I just have to say I had an epic time last night with a random party helping me get the Wicked Rodeo achievement. Good group who wanted it as bad as I did and we followed through. Everyone was so polite and grateful afterwards. Those are the types of GW2 moments that make you reflect on how awesome it is.
While I mostly agree with you I think there's a difference between simply not liking the game (and maybe saying that in a way like: "I don't enjoy the LS, I really want them to drop that and do something else") and coming here and calling the LS "crappy" (like the post on the previous page did).

Both of these AND the New Thread will probably have some variance of "I don't like game" posts because that's what happens to nearly every game topic in Gaming Discussion.
All mesmer all the time. Should be made easier when they announce tomorrow that everything but Sylvari mesmers are being removed from the game. That includes gear, currencies, levels and zones.

Missions tomorrow night are going to be crazy, though next week will probably be busier with all the potential new players due to the sale.
On that note: For any new / returning players who will be joining us for Guild Missions thanks to the announcement / sale, we'll try to get everyone where they need to be and explain what we're doing. The missions are chosen at random so we can't always tell what level zone they will be in, but we'll attempt to pick the lowest level option when we have any choice (mostly just for Guild Bounty, really).
I'd say something about current members being patient if missions take a while to get set up, but you guys are always super cool with getting folks escorted and such.
Care to substantiate that position? By all accounts the Living Story model has been a success, allowing a subscription-free game to thrive as multiple sub-based games have launched and wilted away in the interim. Given that they've been using this 'crappy' model for exactly two years now, surely they would have abandoned it if it wasn't paying the bills and retaining players?

Heh, just watch the gaming side thread for the Heart of Thorns announcement, the thread-shitting is going to be intense. Whichever mod got Miktar, I hope they're watching because the drive-by trolling that usually happens in non-community GW2 threads is pretty well established.
It's sad when I'm up until 2am putting the finishing touches on a thread and have a moment where I stop and consider just not making one because I don't feel like seeing all the usual hate get piled on by the usual people who go largely unpunished.
F' it, I'm just going to report 'objectionable posts' to the support e-mail like we're supposed to instead of hoping a moderator wanders in and sees what's going on.
The correct answer is "A". I will be making a thread before the Livestream begins (probably just a few hours) and when it's over change it over to an announcement thread when we have more details on what Heart of Thorns actually is.
New news = New thread, and this definitely qualifies as news.
The community thread probably doesn't need the burden of all those posts too as we're getting up near 20k again and we don't have anything planned for OT5 yet.

Yeah, I play every day. But my sleep has been really messed up since I got sick just before christmas so I usually play really early mornings and other odd times now
