Guild Wars 2 costs $10.

Meanwhile the trilogy pack containing the original 10 year old game costs $30. The price of Cantha. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

GW2 on console would get my girlfriend to play it so I'd get it day 0

Should set her up with a folding table and laptop right next to you. High fives everytime your group wipes except the two of you. It's very romantic.

She just doesn't play PC games :(

Maybe if she got the controller stuff set up.

Inverse with my gf - I'm the one set up on the TV with a controller while she's on her laptop. She actually hates playing with a controller due to her parents raising her on Baldur's Gate and King's Quest, where as I was given a NES as a toddler.

Controller does work amazing though so it's worth a try to see if she likes it!

The only PC game she plays is Civ V. Which she will play until she collapses. Everything else is on handhelds and consoles.

EDIT: Does anyone know if Amazon will price match the $10? Asking for a friend.

Came back to this game after a long break and I'm totally lost.

I was a level 44 Mesmer doing some quests before I stopped I think and it seems like there's a overwhelming amount of content and I can't wrap my head around it.

I don't even remember if there's any quests but I think the next story quest for me opens up at level 50 so should I just run around the world map doing random things to level up?

I also went back into Lion's Arch and that was a surprise. :(

Maybe go to a lower level zone and do map objectives (hearts, events etc.) until you get back into the feel of your character. You scale down so you'll still get good do and loot.

We making any bets on what will be revealed tomorrow?

It's tough getting them to pricematch via chat. I imagine people will probably be submitting pricematches through "tell us about a better price" on the product page though.

I respect Anet for trying Living Story, even though it didn't work out the way they wanted.

They're really trying to change the genre for the better, and it's mostly working out for them.

NCSoft is the worst publisher ever. Double EXP weekend and I don't even need to buy Doritos and Mountain Dew to get it. This game is going to flop.

I'm soooo getting the Phoenix light armor tomorrow as a celebration :) I've been putting it off since forever (because I frankly still feel it's a really stupid idea from my perspective, not from Anet's) xD Buying a virtual piece of clothing for that cost, as a concept, is kinda absurd to me, for some reason. But it's so cool looking!

You guys get ready for more JUNGLE !!!!11111

Apart from Mount Maelstrom and a few spots in Sparkfly Fen and Brisban Wildlands, most of the "jungle" zones feel pretty well tended. I'd love to see a zone that captures the feel of something like Apocalypse Now or Predator. Just that sense that danger is all around you unseen.

I figured "Heart of Thorns" was sort of a nod towards "Heart of Darkness," honestly.

Do you guys think they would be able to add new areas that doesn't contain a gimmick? Silverwastes and Dry Top spoiled me. Started a new character not too long ago to go through the New Player Experience, but constantly feel the need to switch character and return to the new areas. The carrots they dangled are just too enticing.

Ike is gonna be at my house in 30 minutes!

Excellent news, glad he had a safe trip.

Zones like Dry Top and the Silverwastes work because they're the singular focus of a Living Story update, so everyone is there making things happen. Dry Top is less impacted by the absence of other players (you can still get things, just not at a discount) but Silverwastes is likely going to have to change when players move on. That's how it's supposed to work with these things, and honestly I'll take one Silverwastes a month vs. waiting a year for an expansion full of zones I visit once and never again. ArenaNet has been really good about making sure old zones don't go to waste or become antiquated and one of my quiet, unrealistic little hopes for tomorrow is that HoT involves bringing existing zones up to the 'present', not just in terms of story but also complexity of events.

If HoT adds a bunch of new zones, they have to pick one to be the 'active' zone and let the others exist as more slowly paced, exploration-oriented zones. Otherwise people are just too spread out or will fall into the habit of hitting everything only at specific times (like world bosses). I wouldn't be surprised if zones like Dry Top and the Silverwastes are "Living Story Only" though and whatever HoT delivers is less 'active'.

I sure hope they do. I like SW and Dry Top well enough, but there's always just so much going on. So much so that there are whole days that I just run off and meander around some zone I haven't been to in a long time, do a JP, find some weird event out in the middle on nowhere, whatever. Somewhere there aren't fifty symbols moving all over the map and crazy Mordrem charging at me all the time.

So packed with mobs like Orr but you can't see the mobs to try to avoid them?

Hard pass.

Nah, I was thinking more like a zone that just feels claustrophobic despite being outdoors. Rain that comes down in sheets, dense ground foliage, a canopy that blocks a lot of the light at ground level, that sort of thing. Parts of Mount Maelstrom are kind of like this already.

I'd also like to see enemies that aren't at ground level. The game has its fair share of spiders that spawn by dropping into view, but I think it'd be cool if you could actually look up and see enemies up in the trees, waiting to attack.

I also think it would be cool if there was something like a zone-wide Meta event where the jungle starts off completely overgrown and is full of invisible enemies that will pick you off and dump you at the edge of the forest. You'd have to stay near camps or established roads, and tag along with heavily defended patrols that keep the enemy at bay. As the zone progressed, they'd clear the timber, establish waypoints that the vines can't disrupt.

And the last stroke of insanity; a "Camouflage Cloak" outfit you obtain through gameplay means that makes certain enemies neutral (yellow name) instead of aggressive when worn.

I like that change of pace feeling in the game though. It's a good dynamic.

Oh for sure. I love that there's basically a central hub of PvE content at any given time. I'll echo Retro's thought though that it should be limited to one or two specific maps at a time and maybe tie in with whatever story is happening at the time rather than be a big part of wider ranging expansions.

Ah I see. I could get down with all of that except thw zone wide Meta. Nothing more annoying than having content blocked by other content that requires a full map to coordinate to complete it.

The 'no content' thing basically boils down to 'content I don't like.' Which is reasonable itself, but everyone wants to be as dramatic as possible when complaining.

HoT (hurr) speculation,

I think the biggest thing I want, right now, is better class balance out of HoT. Engineers and Elementalist are overshadowing everything lately. Having access to so many skills on top of 25 Might + celestial just makes them too good at everything. I don't want nerfs so much more options for everyone else.

Imagine any new dungeons will follow the ta-aether, moltan factory, aether hideout, Thaumanova style instead of the old dungeons. Which should annoy the dungeon forum a fair bit, but good. Static, stack-n-smack gameplay is so out of place. Uncritable bosses, heavy condition spam, puzzle-fights are all things that could help break the zerk hold over pve.

Small worry there's going to be 'elite' content requiring giant 500 man guilds. Similarly the original description of Urgoz/Deep is what turned me off Factions at release. I don't really want to join a spam guild, or take a spot from a potential new player in gaf either.

Anyone else going to the session at pax in the morning? I'm so dang excited! I know there is a dedicated pax thread, but just wanted to check in here. If you see a dude wearing a "Rocko's Modern Life" shirt rocking a red pebble watch, say hi!

Yeah, I don't expect anything like that to happen (thus the "stroke of insanity" comment), and I'm not even sure I'm explaining what's in my head right. It's not so much that the content is blocked or requires coordination to complete it so much as the zone is just really really dangerous if you're not tagging along with the heavily armed NPCs. Like convoys of those huge Charr warmachines, that kind of heavily armed.

I'm picturing the meta as something like escorting logging teams as they push into the jungle to clear roads, then escorting supply trains to little forward camps, establishing a network of Mordrem-proof waypoints... I like the idea of seeing the 'war effort' as it progresses deeper into enemy territory, though I admit it might not make for compelling gameplay.

Ike is here safe and sound!

Awesome. Have fun you two, take lots of pictures.

Someone enjoyed Karka land (sans the lag and culling would have been amazing)

I'll probably post the Gaming Side thread early tomorrow morning (like, 7am). Planning to get up, have some breakfast and buy my 10 o'clock ticket for the hype train to Excitement City.

It was amazing in theory, but it was over too fast to enjoy.
