Yep, you can

Cool. Yeah I really should have chosen the chest armor since that is the hardest one to craft, but the Leggings are not far behind. Both require 8 Bolts of Damask which are time gated to 1 per day so 8 days to craft one piece. I guess I just lose out on the 3 extra Dragonite Ingots, Bloodstone Bricks, and Empyreal Stars I wouldn't have had to craft. But no biggie, playing in SW has increased my stock of those ten fold.

Definitely glad I made my main a Sylvari now. Voice actress is great (Jennifer Hale), and the heavy cultural armor is amazing.

Humans are just boring.

I like Charr, however most armor looks terrible on them.

Not a fan of Asuras.

Norn are just eh, bigger humans.

I do really like the T3 Sylvari Heavy, I got bored of the medium human t3 but not this one

So far the specializations seem to be tied to the new weapons. I wonder if the new weapon is a requirement for that spec. Do Druids have to use a staff? Can they only use a staff, losing the weapon swap ability? Or can they use a staff and swap to a secondary Ranger weapon? Could they not use a staff at all and go with two other Ranger weapons?

Also, are specs only for level 80 or will they unlock earlier? Most of the expansion seems to be for level cap characters but I could see specs being unlocked at level 60. Not so soon as to confuse new players but since you've unlocked everything but trait points by 31 it seems like 30 levels would be reasonable.

Always thought gearing up for WvW is somewhat of a waste, when you just bubble up with others and murder everything in your path.

My longbow is my best friend in there.

What role do we want to try to expand on that they can't do, or what gameplay would be really awesome to add to this profession? In some cases, we went way outside the box to go with some stuff that I think people are going to be pretty shocked and pretty excited when they get a chance to see how some of this stuff works. It's definitely trying to create a wider variety of roles for players in combat and with their profession. That is a big part of the specialisation system.

man that is some awesome stuff. exciting!

You stopped playing and had said you'd be back when it looks like we will kill another dragon. So when speculation started I msged you.

whoa, kos sent you a pm to return but not me. damn reality hurts
You left for unknown reasons to play shittier MMO so I had no reason to think that the possibility of Sylvari being dragon minions would not make you come back.

Do you guys want a story mission or lore regarding the specialization or just want them added to hero menu or whatever?

Congrats on your lurking. Welcome back I guess.

I would be up for a nice story chain where our professions are training into thier specialization as they do a set of 5-6 missions.

lol. You should probably keep your expectations in check about me playing a lot. Hopefully I'll enjoy the new pvp modes

Could I get an invite to the guild? On Stormbluff Isle, I played the game at launch a lot and was in the guild. I'm getting back into it, and starting a new character alongside my girlfriend so I figured I'd ask back in.

That would be the best. The worst would be just unlocking it in a menu with no context whatsoever. Didn't Colin say that we'll learn specs from the jungle though?

There's not enough in the hero menu. I wish the hero menu had a little window inside through which I could play GW2 so I'd never have to leave the hero menu.

Does everyone prefer the new engaging Kos who sounds like he's reading discussion questions off of flashcards or the old bitter Kos?

Should be a little bit of a quest to make it feel like you've earned it. Rangers should have to venture into the wilderness and commune with powerful forest spirits, Necros should have to venture into graveyards and crypts... that sort of thing.

I'd also like for that to be the way Traits are unlocked as well. Instead of so many random objectives to unlock every single trait, I'd like it if you unlocked all Adept / Master / Grandmaster traits all at once, and each trait line was situated in a different location. So if you want to unlock all of the, say, Master traits for the Elementalist's Fire trait line, you'd need to go someplace within that level range that is heavily fire-themed and complete a task. Something like going to three fire-centric places to gather 'raw magic' and then bringing them back and fighting a mob.

I feel like trait unlocks and specialization is a good chance to add profession-specific lore and character to the game.

Expansion is somewhat bittersweet for me but mostly sweet. I've been waiting for god remembers how long to delve back into the game with a new race and that was my req for coming back but I also hoped without daring to believe that a new profession would be born. The remarks about adding a new race are discouraging, clearly it's not going to happen for a very long time and likely until the next dragon. I figured a dragon would get a new race involved but the Tengu are the most likely candidate and the Dominion of Wind is too far from the Jungle for them to feel the need to get involved. We'll probably be waiting until a dragon in that region surfaces which will probably be the next after Mordremoth.

On the bright side, I'm pumped about getting a new profession and can't wait to learn more about Revenant. There's a good possibility I'll roll this instead of Guardian unless the skills are really disappointing but I don't think they will be, sounds like the ultimate utility profession. I think a new cool class could be enough to get my butt back into this world (outside of daily log-in chests rewards) and I really look forward to them releasing videos of the skill set as they did the other classes. I guess I'll probably roll yet another human, sigh. A Tengu Revenant would have been nice. Oh well, it's a role playing game so likening my character to myself is appealing.

Do you guys think there's any chance the daily log-in reward chests that allow you to select a class for armor piece will be updated to add Revenant? I'm guessing probably not but might as well hoard them.

Adding more weapons for each class is a great idea, a way to expand the skill set in a way that fits GW2. I look forward to seeing all the new skills that arise from this and am excited to check out the new Elite skills. I hope Revenant gets a scythe at some point! Likewise, mastering field screen skills sounds neat for traversal. I'll be gliding all over the jungle and look forward to seeing what additions other areas get unless all skills only pertain to the jungle which is a possibility. It might solely be an array of skills used to handle all this new content as they are upping the difficulty and are trying to create a deeper zone that can't be swept in a day.

so with VD coming up in a little over 2 weeks I was wondering if guild wars typically does much for VD?

Not really, the Lovestruck weapon skins are back, but that's about it. They tend to go all out with their holidays (big, multi-week festivals with tons of stuff to do) or they completely ignore them.

Armor is not restricted by class (profession) but by weight class: Soldier, Adventurer, Scholar. No changes are needed for armor to be equipped by Revenants.

revs are going to be heavy class. since ritlok is probably going to be the first rev.

I'm referring to the chest that provides an exotic reward, sorry. It lets me choose which class (I know it's called profession for this game but class is shorter ;P). I left it in my inventory instead of selecting Guardian in the unlikely event that a new class would be announced and now one has :)

Yep, they've straight up said it was heavy (soldier) and pointed out how there were 3 of light and medium but only 2 heavy...until now! Perfect for me because that is what I'm looking for after running a skimpy glass cannon Ele and Mes. It sounds like the dwarf king skill will allow you to perform a traditional tank role but I imagine there will be cool-down issues that prevent you from doing it non-stop so you can't 'truly' perform that role.

Of someone getting it to work or it being broken?
Someone getting it to work- I've had tons of reports of the script not functioning in Win8, and tried to help troubleshoot a bit but was never able to get it working for them :(

Sorry if I didn't make clear why I mentioned that... you're taking about an exotic armor piece right? There's no restriction by class, just weight and Revenants will be Heavy (Soldier); in other words, any armor that works for Guardians or Warriors can be equipped by Revenants. So whether or not the option to select them appears... hopefully i'm making sense

I get what you're saying, I let it confuse me by bothering to ask what profession when it really should only give you three options. Now that I think of it, there's nothing profession specific about armor (outside weight class) so I feel dumb for asking it haha I blame you for making me look silly, ANET!

The [Class] Chest I believe can be armor or weapons. So if you got the Guardian chest, you might get a weapon the Guard can use but the Revenant can't. If it gives you armor then it's fine since they are both heavy.

I'm not sure if they will retroactively update the Exotic Chest so that you can select "Revenant" from it but hopefully they will.

He's talking about this

That makes sense, didn't realize you could get a weapon. I'll just wait since there's no reason to open it before my new character is created and there's a chance it could be a polearm like we see Rytlock wielding :)

armor or weapons, yerp, that could stand to be retroactively updated.

then again when "Ranger Gear boxes" were first added to the game they had rifles in them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's just foreshadowing, my dear fellow. Just wait until HoT ;p

Considering the expansion will be playable at the next PAX event, I wonder if they'll divulge the Rev's skill set before then? I'm so damn impatient haha It would make sense to reveal the videos leading up to it in March. Hopefully the beta goes smoothly so the release isn't postponed long.

you can... actually you just have to be good at kitting, and dodge at the right time.

It was pretty easy to deduce the new profession would be a heavy, but inferring what its base health pool would be is trickier. The current distribution is:
18,472 - warrior, necromancer
15,182 - engineer, ranger, mesmer
10,905 - guardian, thief, elementalist

So by the previous logic one would argue revenants will be in the highest bracket. But given that one heavy is in each of the high and low groups, I would wager revenants will have a medium health pool.

Hard to say. At one point Dragon Bash was a festival, but it didn't return last year. There was the Festival of the Four Winds, but that might not work this year.

Otherwise, it might be until Halloween before the next holiday.

I should've paid more attention in chat, but the person said something about UAC settings in Windows 8. Idk. I ran it in Admin mode (which should bypass all the UAC stuff) but it still wasn't working. I'll let you know if I can get something working.
