Hard to say. At one point Dragon Bash was a festival, but it didn't return last year. There was the Festival of the Four Winds, but that might not work this year.

Otherwise, it might be until Halloween before the next holiday.

that's a shame, it would be nice if they at least did something like a temp boss of like a giant heart to kill around VD.

oh well it's not like there isn't plenty of other content to play with.

You stopped playing and had said you'd be back when it looks like we will kill another dragon. So when speculation started I msged you.

You left for unknown reasons to play shittier MMO so I had no reason to think that the possibility of Sylvari being dragon minions would not make you come back.

Do you guys want a story mission or lore regarding the specialization or just want them added to hero menu or whatever?

I'd love to have a story built around specializations coming into the game.

DA:I did that in a small way, and it added an interesting aspect to the progression.

I would be up for a nice story chain where our professions are training into thier specialization as they do a set of 5-6 missions.

This, I would like.

Because I have too much Ascalonian Tears and not enough gold to get transmutation charges, I am deciding between Soldier's or Rampage's for my Mesmer. Any suggestions? :)

New Build notes:
  • Fixed a bug in which leaving a PvP match while zoomed in on a fixed spectator camera would not reset turn sensitivity.
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes prevented players from battling Issormir and completing the norn starting area.
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes prevented players from defeating the greater earth elemental and completing the human starting area.
  • Fixed several audio bugs that were introduced with the most recent patch.

It was pretty easy to deduce the new profession would be a heavy, but inferring what its base health pool would be is trickier. The current distribution is:
18,472 - warrior, necromancer
15,182 - engineer, ranger, mesmer
10,905 - guardian, thief, elementalist

So by the previous logic one would argue revenants will be in the highest bracket. But given that one heavy is in each of the high and low groups, I would wager revenants will have a medium health pool.

Move guardian to medium and revenant to low.

Thanks Colin

I feel like I hit a wall where if I want to do much else I need to find some people to play with, my name thing is Zenax.5812 if there is still room in the guild.

Guards have so much damage mitigation that moving them to mid would make them OP. And guards suck anyway. :p

Getting back into this game after a few months, it's pretty cool that it's so easy to do that.

It's been pretty dry for a while, but I'm excited for specializations. Anything that adds new skills to the game and more build variety is enough to reel me in. Double XP helped a lot too; I leveled my Guardian from 26 to 52 over the weekend.

Guild Halls will be locations on the world map

As for guilds overall, Colin said that they are staying really high level and will fill in the details about guilds down the road. We were able to ask if Guild Halls would be on the map or more like GW1 where guild halls were at a place outside the world map, and Colin confirmed that they will be on the world map. Guild Halls will be locations actually on the world map that are instances your guild owns. Players will actually enter them through other maps in the world and this is how you discover them. That’s part of the experience as they plan to really ground the story of guild halls and their experience inside the story of the jungle. We asked if guilds were going to be able to own multiple guild hall locations, but Colin answered that we would have to wait and find out.

The Mastery system is how PvE and PvE progression will grow, skills and traits will grow through the Specialization system and Guild Halls will allow you to grow your guilds and progress and expand them in the future. Since launch there have been questions about how Guild Wars 2 will expand and these systems are the answers.

That won’t leave the WvW system old and dusty, however, as he added that they are also taking some of the concepts from mastery and rolling those back in to make the WvW system even more robust.

One of the ways that players can get mastery points is through completing a map, and that map completion in Heart of Thorns was going to be much of the same key experience in HoT that it has always been in Guild Wars 2. The mastery point reward will be the final reward for completing a map, not replacing what is required for map completion. While there will be additional sources of mastery points located throughout a map, these additional sources will generally not be required for map completion.

If you are wanting to max out all of your masteries, it might be a little harder than you think. Mike said that mastery is a long-term system, a system that they will continue to layer content onto including layering Living World content. Over time there will be more and more mastery points available, but they will also be adding new things that you can spend those points on. Additionally, players will have gotten a certain depth into these lines and new content will come out that will let you go even deeper.

A big detail that we did learn is that it is not only the Heart of Maguuma that will be getting mastery points. In fact, there will be two separate mastery systems, one for the jungle and another for the core areas of Guild Wars 2. Players will be able to earn mastery points in the jungle to spend on abilities specific to the jungle and then earn separate mastery points for the core areas of the game to spend on abilities for the core areas.

When we asked if this map was an expansion of EotM, Colin answered very much so. They learned a lot from EotM about what really works and gave them things that they saw they could improve upon when they made this borderland. It is not just EotM, however, as this map is the lessons learned from all of the different maps on what makes an incredible WvW experience.

I really hope they heavily modify the existing borderland. It's going to feel so stale when the new one gets introduced.

Honestly, I kind of wish they would just roll a version of EoTM into a borderland as well. Get that map off the karma train. It's too good for it.

Oh yeah I completely agree. EoTM really made the current BLs look incredibly dated and the new one will be even worse. They'll have to do something to the current BLs otherwise people may stop playing when that's in rotation.

man... some people can't read an innocent comment about checking the ph levels of the swamp to make sure that it will sustain life without trying to make it wrong :/

So I'm still trying to find a profession I like. What are some under-represented professions?

I made a Mesmer, but I'm not sure I like it.

I made an Engineer, but only have a rifle right now with no turrets or any other "engineer-y" things.

What are some of the more fun professions? I think I'm just getting bored of what I've been doing with PvE. PvP is available instantly, right?

I want a wizard tower guild hall.

We'd get our own little town of people praising us for our protection and everything.

i can't help but imagine something like

with this song playing as you enter (which is a fun song in general)

we summon this song while running around the map.

and this song when world bosses trigger.

and given that I have my music turned off and play a custom soundtrack this is now totally going to become reality for me once we have a guild hall >.>;

I found the ranger to be the most fun right away, the elementalist gets more fun later though. to be fair my elementist is only level 22, ranger level 15 or so, my thief is 25... she is ok. Warrior at level 9 is ok.

I believe pvp is locked until level 22 or so.

sPvP can be joined out of the tutorial by going to Lion's Arch and joining through there.

Does gear matter? Do I have access to all skills/weapons to try out what "end-level" professsions feel like? I feel like if I know what I'm working towards it will make the journey there easier to grind out.
i am curious what is sPvP?
what is the s?
single?
sexy?
soapy?
sea-lion?
select?
slow?
slippery?
uh.... I give up :p

you know normally I am against pvp because I always feel like a loser...
either I win and then feel bad because the other person is sad because they lost... or I lose and well I lost...

looking at stuff though, it seems like I can be successful as a loser... repeatedly lose and still get money and points though at a reduced rate to the winners. maybe one day when I am super bored I will go goof around with sPvP and ideally lose as that is more like winning to me than winning would be :p

Everyone is on the same footing in sPvP. There's no bullshit. Everyone has access to the same stuff right when they jump in. All the same runes/sigils/skills/traits. No one has a stat advantage over you, even if they've played for 2,000 hours.

GAFHall Go!

Hopefully it's near Rata Sum cause Asura are da best.

near Rata Sum?
nah, lets just claim Rata Sum as the guild hall.
convince the developers we are the best and that the whole city of Rata Sum is now the Gaf Guild hall. We will help the new asura and other players that come through, and we will offer cake, that is not a lie.

Nothing super elegant, fast, or pro about this, but Apple, Zyra (Cathcart) and I took on the TA Up path. It was unusual and fun for the same old to become challenging. After the successful wurm try we had no wipes.

You will also get a taste of my terrible music selections (it's just pandora if that justifies anything)

The wurm is probably the most interesting and challenging, the nightmare tree is likely the most boring but that's only because I had to keep reviving the peoples.

2 Man Wurm
3 Man Malrona
2 Man Fyonna
3 Man Nightmare Tree

I used a video converter on the Wurm fight which made it seem muddier and muted, the others are should be fine. Vertical bars because 16:10

So I got the 360 pad to work with this game and wow, it is unreal how smooth it really is. It's so cool to be able to play an MMO on a game pad. The one issue I have is about face not working properly but I think I messed up a key bind somewhere. I've also not run into any issues running it on Windows 8.1, but I'm only in the starting zones so the game is likely not very demanding yet.

Great thanks to the people who made the pad support possible, it's a joy to use!

Yeah, it's amazing. In OP said that gamepad control will feel natural but not this natural. Still need getting used to using AOE skill though, and I only use mouse control only when crafting.
