Why is this card all golden? I just started playing a little while ago and it seems fun

Your mistake is in assuming that your opponent can safely pass with a 12 point advantage. Unless the two of you are literally down to your last cards a 12 point advantage for your opponent is nothing when you've used Yaevnn at the beginning of the round. So no, giving your enemy 12 points in round 2 is not immediate victory in any situation other than the two of you having used every last card between the both of you in round 1.
A card like Yaevnn allows you to cycle through your deck more effectively, stall in the aforementioned situation above, or allows you an easy out in a Round 1 situation where you know you cant keep up with your opponent's tempo to begin with.
In related news: this might be too early, but I think I dislike the open beta changes that vastly increased consistency of all the factions: former Nilfgaard passive to be able to mulligan every round , every faction now has a few ways to pull out units from your deck, etc. Sure it lessens RNG, but it feels like it makes combo style decks way too reliable, and overall decreases the variance of a card game too much.
i stopped thinking of gwent as a card game and i became a lot happier with what it is
gwent deckbuilding feels closer to refining a RTS build order
i do worry about the small deck sizes hurting the long-term prospects of the game though. i can probably represent "optimal" play of a few of the decks on a somewhat large flowchart
I know that...which is why I said it doesn't make sense
Thanks this is a better explanation. I do that quite a lot (losing on purpose) when I am against monsters or northern realms. Still not convinced about the card thoMaybe I need to try it and see
Your gameplan is bad.
The challenge tells you to lock and if you hover over the card it says:
Lock: Disable a card's abilities. Disables and reveals Ambushes.
Same here, actually. I guess that's what the forum here is for.
Spies are literally the best cards in the game, going into the final round with more cards than your opponent is going to lead to a win more times than not. The best case scenario as someone said is win round 1, then stall your opponent in round 2. Sure you gave them 12 points but they still aren't going to pass because if they do then you can just dump all your cards, win the second round and thus the match and be done with it, so they are forced to engage you until you pass usually.
I never said spy cards were bad. Just trying to figure out this specific spy card.
Anyways I played with him about 4 games and he is giving me easy wins in the first round (opponents just pass when I use him lol) but he made me lose when I used him on the 2nd round (I will never use him on the 3rd)
So from a few matches, this card is pretty good, but only using it in the first round, and especially if you already have a good hand from the start. Otherwise I think he is a liability in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
Maybe once I get other cards I can experiment more
My main issues are with Nilfgaard and Shieldwoman decks. I can reliably beat most other decks, but Rot Tosser is almost too good. 6 Power means it can survive most direct attacks, and can be bounced back with a number of Nilfgaard/Neutral abilities.
You need to change your thinking still. He isn't meant to be used in a round you plan to win, it's meant to be in a round you want to lose.
Just playing some of the challenges, and I can already tell I will enjoy the hell out of this game. Think I'm going to stop soon so I don't get burnt out before final release.
Well I accidentally crafted premium Operator.
Sigh.
i dont like geralt igni :/
Is there a bug or something with Blue Stripes Commando's? I got two earlier today and now it says I have zero.
I clearly remember picking one as my rare earlier as the end card of a keg.
Gotta not let your power up combos get super big on one card scorch is a threat too
Really enjoying the game but I wished they would have ironed out all the bugs during the closed beta. Way too many times I've had the "you lost/win the round" text stick to the screen blocking my view or start the game without my faction leader.
There's some huge balance issues with the game when there's freaking five factions and I face only the same two over and over again.
Weather monsters, and nilfgaard. I've played up to 42 rounds won for dailies the past three days at lvl 9 in casual and that's all I freaking go up against.
It's not fun, I want to keep playing for the potential of new cards since the daily system is actually good. But to actually go through with it is freaking torture.
so, whats the best deck for murdering queensguards?

Just played against a Reaver Hunter deck ( Similar to this list I think: http://www.gwentdb.com/decks/18554-reavers-assemble )
Boost/Thin your deck, Operator a Reaver Hunter, win 1 round with 3 Reaver Hunters. Win next round by Neneke -> Reaver Hunter, playing your Operator'ed Reaver Hunter, then Henselt passive to bring them back out again.
If I had access to all the cards I'd certainly be interested in trying this deck out!

If it isn't fun than voice your complaint and take a break til the meta is sorted or balanced.
Play a different game etc. Card games and balancing issues go hand in hand.
I haven't made it through the challenges yet. I still got that hearthstone bug I spose.
I really like my reaver deck, started to play reavers last though, unless I have too, win first round with operator on reaver and then play sergeants and blue stripes + ves, mulligun 1 reaver away and then stall second round with thaler/ciri and get card advantage, and then win round 3 with 4 reavers as last play. So they can't get scorched or gignid.
Such a big swing in power and if it all went well they can't stop it.
Was this in ranked or casual? Did you have any success with it?
No one except you have raised these complains.
Because the game is very fucking stingy to new players unless you got a shit ton of kegs from closed beta or are willing to spend money. HS is waaayyy more generous imo than gwent imo when it comes to packs.
In HS by just doing a daily a day (usually 40/50 gold), you get 1 pack every 2 days. If you play for HOURS to get 3 wins in a row for 10 gold. Then you might get 2 a day.
Gwent: win 6 ROUNDS which is really fast, gives you a pack, 12 more rounds another one, and in the meantime there are tiers that give you ore/scrap every 2 round wins. On average you can easily get 2/3 packs a day. That's not even counting level up rewards and ranking up rewards.
HS is stingy as fuck in comparison, I don't see your logic there.
Like, anyone who starts HS today is significantly behind the existing players, even if they play Standard exclusively, and it will take them a long time to catch up.
Yeah, if you spent money in closed beta for HS they gave you... a gold Gelbin Mekkatorque. Thanks, Blizz. But HS was pretty inclusive when it first came out where the difference is with Gwent is it feels like the game gave preferential treatment to closed beta players. Where new players can't overcome it unless they want to spend money.

What you're basically saying is you're unhappy players who got in the game earlier had a head start on packs. I hope you realize how silly this is? Because this is true of every game, including HS. Someone who starts HS today is just as behind, and can't overcome it unless they want to spend money. Hell, if I went back to HS today I'd be behind as well, and I've played it for a good 2-3 years.
