Halo |OT 20| It really does feel like Halo

Granadier

Is currently on Stage 1: Denial regarding the service game future
I'm waffling between two dates for the HaloGAF tournament.

- November 30, the Sunday after Thanksgiving in the US.
- December 13, the Saturday after finals for many (but definitely not all) US colleges.

Thoughts? The tournament will run a little over four hours (and a lot less than four hours for the teams that get knocked out early, obviously). I'm gonna keep most details hush hush till next month, but I'll probably ask you all for feedback on some other things. :)

Why not delay it till December 20th? Cover all finals weeks. (My finals are that week)

Otherwise I'd vote the 13th for the most people available.

Saw it, looks really fun. Though I'm in agreement the text needs to go. They do a greater disservice to the game thinking they need to hand hold like this. It's just so obnoxious having it floating above everything on screen PROTECT, CAPTURE, DEFEND, ESCORT.

I just can't understand why something like that cannot be toggle-able on or off. Keep it on by default, but give those of us who don't want it, the ability to turn that stuff off. Things like the grenade switch beep etc. I'm almost certain the overwhelming majority of people who buy this game will have played at least one of the previous Halo games. It's a mature series now, it's not a new IP, you're always going to have returning players.

Bad UI, sound mixing, bland music, Multiplayer balance, short campaign with a story that needs background from books, most stats being off the game, wonky forge that took a step back from Reach, Limited Theater, little custom game options, bland maps, etc. etc.

It's bad.

Superb basic game play, extremely tight controls, excellent graphics, gorgeous in game HUD, large amounts of armour customization, great music, story that actually takes advantage of the extended media, extremely detailed stats, 4 different forge environments, large amount of custom game options (compared to other games), very good support from the dev, interesting new game modes, good selection of maps, etc. etc.

A list of your subjective opinions doesn't make a game objectively bad.

The game isn't as good as the original trilogy, however I think it's still a really good game.

But we need the stupid to balance out the salt.

Too bad most of the fun salt has been perma banned and the scales have been tipped further into the stupid realm.

MCC should get this place back in order though, HaloGAF will be actively playing Halo, and the tone of discourse will change drastically.

This is true.

:(

I just want to say that I hope halo 5 has the grenade launcher back from reach along with it's beta levels of damage, especially if the combat is more arena based.

Guys, what do you think? Should I get back with Mr. Caffeine or what? Any "beginners trying to get better" that would like me to contact the guy for them?

Is this the real life?

"High level skilled" and H4 do not go together, so no, this is not real life.

In truth I'd like to get better
(I suck)
, but I don't play multiplayer anyway... so I'd just be wasting everyones time anyway.

...

Anyway.

So my missus has put her foot down and said no to me buying a second Xbox One for now - at least until we've moved into our new home.

So, I don't want to move it from under the TV as for single player games and, well, TV.

However, I do want to play competitive Haloes on my PC monitor because it just feels better.

Suggestions for somehow being able to get the Xbox picture on my monitor?

Will a really long HDMI cable cause display latency?

Drag your monitor into your "All in One Entertainment" room, set up a folding chair, plug in your Xbone to the monitor, and hunch in front of it like a ghoul. Game hard until the Missus kiboshes that whole plan too.

Long HDMI would work - but I would be more worried about wireless controller latency and signal drop at distance. Not sure on the Xbox One but the 360 controllers seem to lose connection around 10 feet (3 meters).

I've got a long HDMI to DVI cable I could probably use - distance from the bone isn't an issue, it's about the same from where it is to the sofa relative to the distance to my PC desk.

The only issue with that is sound - HDMI would carry the picture and sound to my PC monitor, but DVI would only allow me to display the picture.

I know MS do official Stereo headsets with an adaptor - do they do the game audio?

You can use a rather long hdmi cable without problems, I would suggest looking into also buying a powered HDMI splitter, roughly £30 and the two models I have gone through over the years have zero frame latency, so you won't have to keep switching out the cable every time you change where you sit.

Ideally, I'll need to have two splitters I think, so that the TV signal can go to just the TV so the missus can still watch when I send the Xbox signal to my monitor. That'd be the best way to do it I think....would that even work?

why not use one of those HDMI DLAN adapters that let you transfer you HDMI signal through the socket within the entire house?
i know for actual internet its not the best option but for HDMI it works pretty well from what i know

Digital signals carry over pretty long distances without any signal degradation unlike analog. Pretty sure many quality manufacturers have 25-50 foot cables.

As for the splitter issue, why not get one of those 4x2 switches/splitters that can be run to a television and a monitor, can be used as a splitter to mirror same image etc.
