Halo |OT18| We're Back Baby!

Well. My life sucks right now. =/

On the flip side, I think I have great coping skills.

Anyways. Halo.

Should I buy GTAV?

Fuck it, I'm buying it. Who has it?

343 should have their official press briefing for the new game hosted in a dark barn and played on CRT screens, then when everyone gets irked hit them with the 1080p60 picture.

Was Halo 5 confirmed 1080p? Cant remember what they said in the 1 minute time span when they talked about Halo at E3.

Except when he says "I like the shield, it's awesome."

I'd almost agree with you, except the hardlight shield will actually block Boltshot blasts. Think about it. The kid indirectly thinks the only real counter to the Boltshot is awesome!

Non-sponsors get Barngate sub-HD. Sponsors get 1080 60fps direct feed gameplay.

GTAV is amazing, go get it now. I haven't been this addicted to a game in forever.

Anyways, about Halo 5. When do you guys think we'll get the first video? I think a VGA trailer would be a perfect time, right after the Xbox One launch and will help keep people interested.

Love seeing everyone playing the same thing on a friends list

I'm late on this, but for sequencing Ricochet spawns my maps usually have some elaborate multi-tiered centerpiece where the ball will spawn in a consistent order. For example, Synthesis goes top mid (big bridge thing) to bottom mid (artifact base circle in the water where rockets spawn) to mid-mid (inside a concealed Blood Gulch base just below top mid).

On that note, though, does anyone else hate it when they go symmetrical on an unconventional axis in regards to spawning? That is, how Fuel Rod spawns left-mid on Solace. I mean yeah, it's technically symmetrical, but it bugs the shit out of me for some reason.

Halo is not dead.

Identities protected because I know the person who started this conversation. and WTF

Captain Tom Lasky walked slowly down the halls of the UNSCS Infinity, his hands clasped behind his back, trying to ignore the doubts and questions that plagued his mind. A quartet of ODSTs escorted him as he made his way towards the primary hangar bay of the most powerful ship in Humanity's arsenal.

It had been one week since the Infinity had escaped Requiem, when they'd avoided being caught in a super-nova by the skin of their teeth. The Captain's frown deepened as he stepped up to a turbo lift and summoned it. So much knowledge, so much Forerunner technology… all gone. Gone because Jul 'Mdama didn't want to run the risk of Humanity finding out more about the secrets of the Didact. At least he wouldn't have to worry about a Knight teleporting onto his bridge anymore, he thought, looking over the new, armored uniform that he was wearing. That was to say nothing else of what had gone wrong during the two months that they'd been stationed there.

The lift doors opened and he stepped through. A minute later, it was rocketing downwards. Two months on Requiem had demonstrated several things to the UNSC, though, and one of those was that for all their physical augmentations and training, the model-four Spartans were having some difficulty carrying out their work. Two months against an enemy where the UNSC held most of the cards, and they'd failed to make a meaningful dent in the Storm. Oh, sure there had been victories here and there. Successful raids, smash and grabs, killing thousands of Loyalists and pulling off a few assassinations… but they'd failed to give Jul and his fanatics any meaningful setbacks.

Hence his trip to the hangars. After nearly eight months, Lasky was finally going to get to see an old friend again. He'd pulled a few strings with High Command, called in a couple of favors with Lord Hood, and Palmer's S-IV's were finally going to get the training instructors they'd needed for so long.

There was a loud "ding" and the lift came to a halt. Moments later the doors opened and Lasky stepped out onto the primary hangar bay of the Infinity. It was a beehive of activity. Broadswords, Longswords, and Pelicans were streaming in and out of hangars; cargo carriers and power-loaders were moving armaments and supplies around, while personnel transports were hastily zipping about. Several fireteams and other personnel saluted as he moved past them, and Captain Lasky returned the gestures as he moved further inwards. He could see a Pelican landing about a hundred meters away. He caught the serial number on it: CT-4589. That was the one he was looking for, and he gestured for his escort to move along with him.

The Pelican landed and its engines hummed as the pilot shut them down. There was a hiss as the rear cargo door opened and the ramp descended. Out of the depths of the bird came a few more ODSTs and a green armored giant, towering over the others around him. Lasky let a smile come to his face as he saluted.

"Welcome aboard, Master Chief," he said.

Oh shit, what? And here I thought the full extent of creepyhalonet was deviantart's vast treasure trove of elites boning.

Good to know the halo shipping, au, and emotional!johnchief fandoms exist. bless tumblr

I don't see why that's a valid assumption anymore. This isn't hardware from 8 years ago anymore. Semi-decent PCs have been doing this with much better graphics than 360 for years now.
Yeah, I think it's certainly a possibility, but it depends on the timeframe to dev. We might see Halo only get 1080p or higher on its second iteration or so, like how Halo 3 ran 640p.

Maybe later into the X-Bone's life cycle, but a year after launch? Plus, chances are that they are deving for the pre-boost specs, so that doesn't help. Yeah, Forza is running at 1080p 60fps, but it doesn't have to deal with the particle systems, AI, and whatever other stuff that Halo does that Forza doesn't have to.

Closed boxes can produce some crazy stuff. I'm not too worried about graphics, but more about it becoming (more and more) the center point of attention -- instead of gameplay actually improving and opening up. I rather have a decent looking game with fantastic a gameplay sandbox than a-look-at-me-pretty-game-of-the-month-but-shallow-in-the-gameplay-department.'

If it can do both, then I'm super happy.

If for example Halo goes back to no loadouts, no ordnance, no unlocks, etc, that some of yall want to see..

What in your opinion will drive forward the player investment system?
(for the entire player base)

If nearly every other game in the industry is putting individualized player customization and advancement on a pedestal, how could Halo realistically succeed by not offering these options?

Where this food for thought came from...

Reference: BF4
This time around, we have more than tripled the number of available accessories and increased the number of available slots where you can install them.
To give you a brief example of the vast amount of weapon variety you’ll get in Battlefield 4, let’s multiply the number of customization options you have on a single assault rifle. With everything from optics, other accessories and camos, you’ll end up with more than 240,000 variations – and that’s for one single weapon in your arsenal!
In Halo 4 there are 10 selectable weapons.
In BF3 there are 52.
Opinion: I am really drawn to the level of personification that games are making available these days, In Halo 4 I very much feel that my Spartan is very Nilla-fied without needing to dive 100K's levels of depth and that brings a nice level of satisfaction to me.

-Allow loadouts but force-restrict them to gametype as in Reach.

-Have two player progression systems: a static, experience-based system (as in Reach or 3), and a variable, skill-based system (as in 2 or 3's ranking).

-Players will have staying power if the core gameplay is good and content is both fun and diverse. Give players plenty of options for custom games and provide a strong multiplayer sandbox to serve as the foundation.

-Release free DLC map / gametype updates.

-All paid options are cosmetic. Armors can be unlocked progressively or purchased.

-I've laid out a basic idea on how to handle cosmetic armors, viewable here.

So no customization? All pre-sets?

I agree with you on that, but how would you fix 1-50? I can see the "home gold" availability with the Xbox One as a boosting factory, infinite throw away accounts

Move to seasoned ladders? (how long is a season?)

Do you think custom games need to be featured more prominently, or simply have more features?

-Release free DLC map / gametype updates.
Do you see this as a realistic future for 343/MS? I understand Killzone is doing it, but they have much less invested/income projections

-All paid options are cosmetic. Armors can be unlocked progressively or purchased.
Completely fine with this, Halo 4 does in my mind a poor job with the amount of armor locked behind (for casuals) insane commendation leveling

I am for the most part okay with how you've theoretically handled those
