I'm curious how something like the Promethean Watcher will behave in groups. We saw that one of them can be a pain in the ass. You basically have to give it two things to do before you can defeat it (throw a grenade at it, while it is preparing to throw it back you shoot the dude it was previously granting a shield to, etc), but what happens when there are three of them and a couple of those Knight dudes? Headache city.
Same, gonna search for a cliff notes version somewhere.

Yeah, even if Bear's writing style is somewhat harder to get into, Primordium makes it understandable how the Didact could end up (potentially) becoming the main antangonist.
Seriously. Gunna be tough.
Also, Frankie, what's it like to know you and your team completely stole the entire show today? Not just as a Halo fan talking to a Halo developer, but as a widely expressed

Man the demo truly was incredible. I was a little unsure of 343 as a whole honestly before today. I mean I knew Frankie was there but he couldnt do everything haha. But 343 delivered for sure. I'm hyped for Halo 4 now. Haven't seen something that impressive in a long time.

I don't think that will be made totally clear until the final book in Bear's trilogy is released, but there are a lot of reasons he might not want an inferior species to get ahold of Forerunner tech/artifacts.
That's more manageable than the hundreds of days we're going to have to wait for new GoT episodes.
I disagree. Didact's only real allies are humans in those novels. If anything I'd imagine he'd be trying to help the MC. I don't think he is the ancient evil. I also don't think it's Mendicant Bias since he appeared to be trying to help MC as well in the last Halo 3 terminal. I think the actual villain has yet to be revealed.

The flood are a test for species set up by the Precursors to test if they are worthy of the mantle. The humans passed, but due to them being weakened, the Forerunners beat them, but they couldn't survive the test, so were destroyed

I read a pretty good summary a few weeks back going by dates from then the forerunners started til where we are, I'll see if I can find it again for you guys.

The precurors want revenge for what was done to them by the forerunners, so it would make sense that the timeless one (the last precuror) is controlling the prometheans somehow to destroy every trace of the forerunners and maybe even humans

The ensuing conversation reveals that the Primordial is actually a Gravemind, and that more Precursors may have survived their war with the Forerunners. The Primordial asserts that "there is no difference" between the Flood and the Precursors, although it does not reveal the precise nature of their relationship. It also reveals that no human was ever truly immune to the Flood, but the Flood can choose whether to infect or not infect. The Primordial then states that the Flood is a test to judge a species' worthiness of inheriting the Mantle, stating that the Forerunners are to be eliminated and that humans will be tested next once they rise again. At the conversation's conclusion, the Didact kills the Primordial by activating a reverse stasis chamber that forces the Primordial to go through a billion years of aging in several seconds, causing it to disintegrate.

Yeah, the Halo 4 enemies are giving me major Borderlands vibes. A teleporting, heavily-shielded melee one that towers above you, a flying, ranged/"supplementary" one... and the Crawlers are basically Tickers from Gears of War combined with Skags from Borderlands.
To be fair, it doesn't look like Prometheans need to reload, just like any other past Halo enemy. If anything it just justifies the reload, because Chief isn't "integrated" into the weapon like the Knights are.
The only reason Didact's an enemy is because he's trying to get rid of an unstable Cortana, because rampancy turns the AIs mad, and they're going to be seeking power... and cortana's on a forerunner world giving her access to some of the most vast AI technology in existence holy shit she might be the legitimate threat

That campaign demo still screamed heavy Metroid Prime influence to me after watching it again a few times, and that is an excellent thing. The Knights looked and behaved in ways that made them feel like and evolution of the Space Pirates and the other two Promethean enemies felt Prime-ish as well.
Hopefully we get some good Spartan Ops and War Games footage tomorrow.

Greg Bear's style is the sharpest and most enticing of all the Halo writers. For me, there are writers and there are storytellers, and Bear is an amazing storyteller.
It's kind of hard to explain, but I really like the tiny bit of interaction we saw between the Chief/Cortana and the Didact. Didact just pops in, scans the scene, and flies off to get ship done. And Cortana's tone when she says "guess we know where he's going makes me think he might not just be a straight up evil antagonist.
I love the kind of villain who's constantly present and taunting you, interfering, but not being too openly hostile. Like GLaDOS. I have high hopes for the Didact's character.

Just rewatched the Halo 4 campaign and mulitplayer footage again. I'm not going to lie, I didn't voice my opinion on it earlier because we haven't seen much but I was worried as hell. New team doing the Halo series, a series I absolutely loved and have had a pretty "close" connection to for the last decade...but damn you guys cleared up anything I was worried about. U4ix, Jazzy, and I talked about live via Skype and we all were squealing like little girls with all the new stuff. Multiplayer looks fast, quick. Have to see more of the abilities but from what I've seen it looks good. The medal color is kinda weird, hope it isn't final. Overall with all the new footage it's a REALLY GOOD E3 for 343i and I really hope these 5 months fly by, I don't think I can go back to Halo Reach.

Man, I wish I could agree. I don't have any sort of well articulated critique, but I've tried to read Cryptum twice, and just couldn't trudge through it. I'll try again once I'm done with school, I guess.
Fuck the first three-fourths of Primordium. It was so dry. But Greg Bear is definitely on another plane of writing than what the series is used to. He might not be the Nylund master of battle hype, but he doesn't have to be, and his style lends much better to the type of tone and mood of the Forerunner trilogy.

He tells a great story, I just don't think he tells it well (talking Cryptum). I just can't visualize any of the stuff in his story, because his descriptions are so loose; the narrative is quite muddled as well.
It was a frustrating read, but one I've thought back on often because the universe he builds in it is so good.

I found it so hard to read about a hike through a forrest for 2/3s of the book, then get bombarded with crazy new info and cool stuff at the end.

Yep.
Primordium suffers a lot of the same problems Cryptum had. First half-three quarters of the book is kinda slow and dull, but the ending makes up for it.

So uh, has anyone talked about how the live action thingy seems to contradict what we already know about how the Infinity gets to Requiem based on Primordium. Or who is in control. Or what he is looking for.
