Halo The Master Chief Collection |OT| Halo Never Died, It Was Just Missing In Action

Ah nothing like finishing a game and getting stuck on an infinite loading screen.

This game is trying everything imaginable to stop me from enjoying it but I just can't help myself.

Halo: Got through to the Truth And Reconciliation level on Halo and I keep failing because the Captain just falls over and dies. Gave up on that one.

Halo 2: Game crashes during the first mission and my console locks up. Gave up on that one.

Online: got bored waiting for a game last night and gave up.

Microsoft, fix it. Now, please.

This happens in the OG version too; unless Captain Keyes randomly dies. Keyes has finite health and unfortunately he likes to be in the center of the action.

In the OG version I've even had checkpoints during his death cutscene.

Edit: reworded my post a bit.

Is Halo designed to _not_ have savable checkpoints with splitscreen co-op?

The only Halo I have ever played was Halo CEA on 360, and that game did not have savable checkpoints with splitscreen co-op. It was extremely aggravating. Legendary was too difficult for me to beat on my own, so I played with my brother using split-screen co-op. But we had to beat each chapter in one sitting. It would save our full chapter progress, but it would never save the individual checkpoints in each chapter. So we could beat Ch.1 one day, and then the next day start Ch.2. But if we beat only half of Ch.1 one day, the next day we'd have to restart Ch.1

Why was it like this? The single player had savable checkpoints in Halo CEA on 360. Why would they remove them for splitscreen co-op?

The reason I ask all of this, is because as you all know, there are a myriad of bugs/glitches/problems affecting everyone playing MCC. In its current state, does MCC offer savable checkpoints for any of its games in splitscreen co-op? If not, is this a bug? Or is this another conscious design decision? As an aside: In MCC, does single player campaign offer savable checkpoints?

Interesting to see how many OG bugs people come across and attribute to this remaster.

To answer your question; we don't know whether it is a feature or a bug.

On a similar note:

Checkpoints are complicated and I'm noticing differences in the single player versions as well. For example a couple of reviewers complained about the Scarab bit not having another checkpoint; yet I distinctly remember an extra checkpoint on the bridge before the final battle.

I have yet to see that checkpoint be triggered in the remaster.

I don't think this is a fixable bug; the framerate bump might actually be cancelling checkpoints. I think maybe 5-6 different variables can affect whether or not a checkpoint is given.

It might be similar to how some guns fire differently due to the increased frame rate.

if you are in the UK and have had enough, remember under the consumer rights bill you can get a full refund on digital or physical as game is not sold as advertised

Also, I really don't like the H2A/Halo 4 Steitzer. Much prefer his older announcements.

And back to no infinite loading screen yet again. I find this issue more annoying than waiting 15 minutes for a game.

Interesting. I played the OG version and the Xbox 360 remake and never had that problem. He died four times on me last night. My checkpoint is right before I walk into that room so it's at least 2-3 minutes before it happens every time.

I've started Halo 2 again and the sound mix seems off. NPC voices only seem to come from the rear speakers and it's really disorienting

Probably getting killed by an invis elite...

Agreed. I bought an Xbox One two weeks ago for the sole purpose of delving into this collection and playing some Halo online as nothing quite comes close to it. This pattern of games releasing in a practically non-functioning state is VERY alarming. In fact my experiences with the Xbox One thus far have been incredibly disappointing to say the least. I'm getting buyers remorse and then some : (

The only saving grace has been Titanfall, but part of me is thinking, sell the system whilst its part new and stick with my PS4 for a few years until MS get a hardware revision out into the wild and drastically improve the Operating system.

lol what 1 game with initial match making problems and you have buyers remorse?

i also have the PS4 and the question i have for you is what are you doing to play on that which you cant on the xbox 1 that works?

my PS4 honestly just gathers dust and i do regret jumping in this early on the PS4, Xbox one though - i love it :)

Matchmaking will be sorted within a short period, its not like the disc is short of content while you wait for it to be all back online and running again

Having some weird issues with H2A aside from match making.

Checkpoints seem to be completely random at times. Played a section yesterday and following a big encounter I expected it to checkpoint in the next room. The game didn't and I was wiped out by a stray grenade.

Next time I played through the same part of the game, it checkpoints where I expected it before. I did nothing different on the second run through.

Also noticed the vocal mix seems to have become muffled from chapter 9 onwards. Can hardly hear it over the score now.

Does anyone know how to turn auto aim off? It's really annoying me in this.

Halo 2's checkpoint system has some extra safety checks to it, so you won't always checkpoint at the same spots if it feels the checkpoint would not be survivable or if you're doing something active.

For example, you can often delay a checkpoint by simply jumping in place.

I'm pretty sure both H:CEA and H2A have a skull that disables auto aim.

Halo CE has some really hard sections. I was playing solo at heroic yesterday, chapter 3, and after many fights I was able to reach the final section before jumping to the
brotherhood spaceship
. However that final section had let me with very scarce ammo and saved a checkpoint where, with only 1 gun and something like 40 bullets, I had to kill one elite, and three other minor enemies, and then fight against those big tankers with a shield that throw some green explosives at you. I am not sure if I can handle it all in my situation.

Called a friend to play this chapter online though, and its easy to breeze through those big guys with a mate. But my solo campaing is still stucked there. Lol

I'm not turning this into a console war because it's all personal preference. This is my first playstation believe it or not and like hundred of thousands of others migrated across from the Xbox Platform this generation (10 years of "service" on the xbox can attest to that) The system itself is wonderful and reminds me MORE of the Xbox 360 than the Xbox does at this stage. I don't have the kinect and the Navigation of the dashboard alone makes me want to tear my hair out.

Not to mention there are options hidden behind options and the fact you have to google things to find out the most simple of things like "How do I change my background colour" "Where do I redeem codes" "How can I tell if my halo copy has fully downloaded and patched ready to play". I'm clearly not the only one who finds it easy to use without an operating manual.

Sooooooo, I quit the game and restarted. Got a message saying "Downloading the latest matchmaking update" or something....

edit 2: Scratch that, now I lost connection to the host.

If It was JUST matchmaking issues with Halo I wouldn't be too bothered in all honesty. I'm massively invested in the story and wanted to dive into each campaigns to see how they've stood the test of time. So far I've encountered the following bugs.

Halo 1 : When using crouch toggle; any attempts to move forward will bring you out of crouch mode, thus showing on other peoples radar

Halo 1 : Massive problems with Audio. Clipping sound effects and musical score is too loud in the mixing stage leading to distortion issues

Halo 1 : Campaign achievements not unlocking for completing levels

Halo 1 : Huge framerate drops and controller latency issues (this is well documented in the digital foundry breakdown and is prevalent across the titles in the MCC)

Halo 3 : Overall washed out appearance compared to the other 3 titles. (Ironically the other versions all suffer the "black crush" again, well documented)

Halo 4 : I played Co-Op online with my friend and whilst the first 10 minutes were flawless soon after crippling lag / latency hit BOTH players in the 2 player co-op session

So yes. Considering I bought this console for Halo; I'm having buyers remorse. I'm not too sure why that is so hard to understand considering I plonked down nigh on £450 to play this game (Console, XBL gold, Stereo Headset, headset adaptor, Copy of the game)

The crouch toggle thing is how it always was. Move the stick gently.

Master Chief Clusterfuck, more like.

I'm still planing to get an Xbone and MCC next year. I primarily want to replay Halo 2 campaign, and that seems to be intact from the issues. The fact that Halo CE is a stuttering mess is heart breaking, but at least I have the consolation that I replayed Halo Anniversary a couple of year ago and can still go back to that whenever I want.

I'm mostly bummed out that the one game that has the least issues is Halo 3, which is the one that I want to reply least.

I didn't realise until today that MS had farmed out the individual games and components to different companies. MCC suffers from the Ubisoft AAA curse. Having separate studios all working on separate parts, then lumping them together and hope they work. Shameful that MS would treat their prestige brand (and my all time favourite franchise) like this. The games deserve better. This should have been the ultimate collection, but that's sadly far from the the case.

I've been having a lot of problems with this game. :(

Halo 1: Quit in the midst of Two Betrayals to go to class. When I got back and hit resume, it bumped me to the start of Keyes. Also,,the Anniversary video failed to load in the first mission.
Halo 2: Didn't start unlocking "mission complete" achievements till I completed the first Arbiter mission, and only unlocked that one. Also, despite subtitles being turned on, no subtitles are shown in-game, and during cutscenes, the subtitles trail behind the video.

Still haven't been able to connect to matchmaking.

I'm totally willing to go back and redo the missions that the achievements didn't trigger for (it's Halo, after all, and I love it enough that playing through the same missions isn't a big deal). I just hope they fix this stuff soon, that the achievements are not somehow impossible to unlock now, and that I can satiate my Halo 2 multiplayer hunger in the very near future.

I just got in to a team slayer match straightaway, hopefully it is improving.

Also for achievements not unlocking go in to the career menu and select the criteria e.g. Halo CE, Iron Skull, even though the cheevo is locked for me the progress bar is full, so it is tracking. Just needs an update to unlock it, I guess.

So disappointed by these issues.
I kind of lost a lot of interest in Halo after Halo 4 but I was really excited for Halo MCC and thought that it would reignite my love for the franchise.

If anything these issues are currently making me reconsider whether I'll even bother with another 343 developed Halo game in the future. It's a shame because I think Halo 5 looks pretty fucking awesome and I do have a lot of love for the franchise but a Halo game has never launched this broken before.

What a buzz kill...

Reach and 4 both launched with matchmaking issues. No campaign issues, but matchmaking was a problem.

Achievements are tracking , go in to the in game achievements menu and you can see the progress bar there. They are just not unlocking.

Good to know. So will they unlock when I next boot the game up? It didn't unlock when I finished the second level (Halo)

I am so upset over this crap. The one thing I thought was going to be a known quantity this year was this collection. Matchmaking is still borked for me so it's off to the campaigns and those have all kinds of issues. I was cherry picking different levels but I'm sticking with H3 since it's the only one that's really solid.

I thought this was going to be the best remaster ever but it's sadly lacking.

So disappointed

It's amazing that MS would release this collection in this state.

Halo is their one major trump card, and one they desperately need to make up ground in the console race. And they've blown it. They've been so focused on getting the game out of the door to meet its November launch date to give them a fighting chance at winning Nov NPD. They've ignored QA and the general love and care I expected would be lavished over their crown jewels. By rushing out an unfinished game, they might win the November NPD battle, but in doing so, seem certain to lose the war.

Complete disgrace. Utter and full cluster fuck of a release. I honestly thought this was the one title this year that i could pop into multiplayer on day one and see little wrong.

To not even be able to play multiplayer.... inexcusable.

Yeah, there's no way QA didn't spot the fact a very high percentage of online matches (if you actually manage to connect...) dump to a black screen with no exit button. It's a bug.

The online code went gold only one week ago, hence the 15gb title update... This got rushed out the door.
