Replaying H4 campaign right now. It's amazing what a framerate boost can do to a game. Even if it's not locked at 60fps the framerate is still super smooth, I love it. Makes the amazing combat even better!

Love the games! But let's be honest playing halo 2 anniversary mp gameplay is starting to feel a little dated.

I also have a bit of an axe to grind with all the people jumping down reviewers throats over low scores with this thing plus that Jleack guy making it sound like the second coming. Now playing it I think the Metacritic is way to high. This thing should have settled in the low 80's.

The fact that I am playing through games that were better in many ways with their original release on older hardware is absolutely bonkers.

Interesting. Having played for a few hours last night, mixing custom matches and a play through of Cairo station, a quick check on my cheeves last night suggested I had unlocked nothing, didn;t get any notifications or anything. Even looking at Xbox.com this morning, my profile hadn't even registered the fact I had even played the game.

Checked smartglass on my phone at lunch time there, and not only is the Master Chief Collection now under my profile for last games played, it also registered the fact I had unlocked 5 achievements. Although, the cheeve for completing Cairo station hadn't unlocked annoyingly.

I wonder if this is a sign that they have made some improvements/changes recently?

What scares me about this the most is this is Microsofts big game for christmas,
they decide to release it in this state, when a game requires a 20gb update for multiplayer and even then it is absolutely broken, I mean this game makes battlefield look like a masterpiece of server engineering.

Reading the help page with current issues:

Issue: Players are experiencing unusually long Matchmaking times.

Issue: Parties are being split up when entering a matchmaking game

Issue: Games can start with unbalanced teams.

Issue: Big Team Battle is currently offering 6v6 matches instead of 8v8.

All of the above issues put together mean that quite literally nothing is working...

Hell at least custom games work.

Same here, it makes a big difference.

....I'm not having all of the bug problems that some people here are, but the achievement not unlocking for completing levels seems to be the one thing I have noticed....
I got the achievement for halo 2 levels, but the CE levels aren't giving me crap!

Yeah I wish I'd bought cod now. I thought this was going to be the safe bet but it's a total mess. I'm really disappointed so far.
The kinks will get ironed out. Its not like this is how the game is going to be forever. Go buy cod. Put it on your credit card if you have to lol. People be acting like this one game has ruined their lives forever. Everyone needs to put on their big boy pants and learn how to deal with adversity. They dont teach that these days unfortunately.

I too play bug ridden video games to learn to deal with adversity.

It's how I relax at the end of a ten hour workday.

Just looked at my achievements and the ones I earned but haven't unlocked yet all have full green bars across them. I'm assuming they'll unlock when we get the weekend update?

UPDATE 12/11/14 13.10pm Microsoft has told Eurogamer that the new update to fix Halo: The Master Chief Collection's matchmaking servers has now gone live.

The company has said it has seen "some improvement" following the patch, but that it is still "working around the clock" to improve matters further.

"We are aware of issues some players have been experiencing with matchmaking and we're working around the clock, alongside the Xbox Live team, to improve the situation," a Microsoft spokesperson explained. "We have deployed an update that has shown some improvement, and we continue to optimise the experience.

"The update deployed to matchmaking was done on the server side and does not require an extra download to your Xbox One. This is our top priority and will keep everyone updated regularly as we deploy continued improvements."

All the years of playing and replaying the campaigns and Halo 2 still sticks out as a sore thumb for me even with the new paint. It just feels so different from the classic that is CE. There is a weightless, floaty feel to everything in the game environment and in some respects virtually no feedback in some of the encounters (especially with the Brutes). The weapons have no punch, no depth, and feel like toy guns.

This is also carried over a little bit into Halo 3 which is why I favor the gunplay and gameplay for that matter in Halo: CEA and Halo 4 the most.

With this flaky UI encompassing all four mainline games in the series I cannot help but feel they would have been better off to give Halo 2 Anniversary the full retail treatment with the full multiplayer receiving the new paint job as well and releasing the uprezzed and 60 FPS versions of Halo: CEA, Halo 3, and Halo 4 as separate digital downloads with their original UI and matchmaking structure in place.

And yeah, the only time I try and speedrun is Legendary runs. For the most part I'm not a grueling difficulty guy, so I just try and beat the game as fast and dirty as possible.
I play all of my FPS' on the hardest difficulty setting. Well, maybe not Doom (the original), but that's a different story. I've been playing FPS since the original Wolfenstein and they are, by far, my favorite genre. It was until Halo: CE came out that made me realize that I was good enough to take my A+ game into any FPS. And, it seems, most FPS games' hardest difficulty modes are never quite as hard as Halo's Legendary. Call of Duty's Veteran mode might come close, but it is still a very different type of hard than the Halo series.
The crouch toggle thing is how it always was. Move the stick gently.
I am *so* glad I can change my controls in MCC to their original defaults, and have those defaults match up to each game's. I was not having the initial MCC control scheme that works across all games. A muscle memory for the Halo games, that I hadn't thought about in at least two years, suddenly came flooding back. :D
Since the launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, we've received several, well deserved, complaints related to slow matchmaking and other issues. From everyone at 343 Industries, we are truly sorry and feel your frustration. You deserve better and we are working day and night to find solutions as quickly as possible, with our first priority focused on matchmaking improvements.

In addition, we are targeting another release for this weekend, which will address a number of other community priorities. An unrelated issue with services is also causing achievements to not unlock correctly, and we realize this just makes it all feel a bit worse.
I won't be touching MCC until matchmaking and achievements are fixed. I am especially disappointed by the achievements glitches, as I was going to have campaign tide me over until online started working again. This is the type of experience I did not expect from Microsoft and their flagship IP. As a long time Halomaniac, it really does burn me.
I'm aware they have charge and plays. I had a 360 lol. The difference is that the PS4 just comes with a cord. I didn't have to spend 25 bucks extra. It is an inconvenience. I didnt like it back then, and I don't like it now. But obviously I have no choice, and I'm gonna be picking a kit up on Black Friday. Lmao.
Don't waste your time with the Charge and Play kits. Get yourself some eneloops. Not only are they the best and longest lasting AA batteries, but you can use them in your other gadgets that require batteries.

For example, I have eneloops I used in my Xbox controllers. I got my Xbox One the day the Sunset Overdrive bundle came out (10.28). With a freshly charged set of eneloops in my Xbox One controller, I was able to do the following all on that charge:

  • Beat Sunset Overdrive and all of the side missions, as well as doing more than half of the challenges, clocking in over 20 hours of gameplay time.
  • Beat Ryse: Son of Rome on Centurion difficulty.
  • Played more than four hours of Killer Instinct.
  • Walked away from my Xbox One and controller multiple times, often for 15 minutes or more.
And it wasn't until Master Chief Collection was doing installing that I finally got the "low controller battery" warning.

Seriously, I love Microsoft's decision to go with AA batteries. My playtime sessions normally last several hours and on the weekends they can last nearly all day. I can't make it through a full day of playing with my Dual Shock 4 before needing to tether it, whereas the Xbox One controller has literally lasted me weeks of constant playtime.

Seriously?
You think we should accept broken products as a standard now and thats part of our big boy pants?

Just managed a big lag battle on the h2a bloodgulch. Looked lovely, but there was a bit of lag....

Has anyone else noticed the input lag as well on this game??

Game ending before 50 score is reached and before time limit has run out. Said the score limit was reached but neither team was no where near it.

Seriously?

I am hoping that by the end of the day today they sort this shit out. Truly disappointing. The games I did play of Halo 2 classic felt like heaven.

Looks like the network engineers aren't part of the Bungie employees old guard that stayed behind to form 343.

Nope, none whatsoever. Perhaps as a consequence of the lag your experienced in the game?

Perhaps it is one of the ways that lag manifests itself in this game..

Seriously, I experienced nothing like this on titanfall which is running on azure. This game obviously just dumps you into the server of its choosing, then gives you the middle finger if it is in a different region.

MCC wasn't made by 343i - that's why we have so many inconsistencies and problems across the board. There are like 5 or 6 studios that were involved with this game.

This isn't adversity. This is paying for a product you expect it to be complete. What the hell is with gaming companies now and putting out unfinished products? I would venture to guess that it the distributor sets a hard date and developers push it out no matter what. I'm not in the gaming industry so I don't know. Three simple requests would have made this launch way better.

1) A beta test of online features.
2) Hire Q and A and bug test your damn game.
3) STOP PUTTING OUT INCOMPLETE GAMES. Do what blizzard does... DELAY.

Hey, I finally got into a Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer match! Team Slayer on Zanzibar, with 60 FPS and improved graphics were pretty awesome. If they end up fixing this, I'll probably spend a whole lot of time playing. :)

I expected some early growing pains, but this is insane. I bought an XBox One on Monday just for this game. I have yet to be able to play a single multiplayer match, despite trying all the troubleshooting suggestions given by Microsoft and 343. I know a ton of people bought it, but for a flagship multiplayer title it has far too many network related issues.

Where is your cloud now?!?!

Saber Interactive did the paint job for Halo 2 Anniversary (and Halo: CEA), Certain Affinity did H2A multi, Blur did the H2A cutscenes and additional scenes, Ruffian did the 1080p and 60 FPS ports of Halo: CEA, Halo 3, and Halo 4 while 343 did the UI and matchmaking infrastructure for the MCC. The H2A terminal developer escapes me.

Edit: United Front Games (Sleeping Dogs) did the UI for the MCC.

Matchmaking is beyond a joke right now.

Got put into a match, 3 v 3 fair enough, there was some terrible lag on my end and sometimes throwing grenades did not spawn anything but used them up anyway.

About half way into the match the game black screens, some weird sound effect loops in the background and before I know it the game loads up the menu with this screen, can you spot the mistakes?

The round should have not been over at that point, red was being stomped and yet we won?

I'm going to refuse to play matchmaking until servers are up, it's a complete joke.

In fairness, yeah, 343 did do the matchmaking code (which is the primary thing broken, heh).

But you know that YouTube video "Too Many Cooks"? Applies here. Halo: Too Many Cooks Edition.

I'm at home at the moment and I've been waiting for a Halo MCC match for 20 minutes now. Not one other player matched. For comparison I just fired up one of the really old Call of Duty releases on Xbox 360 and got near instantly matched.

Just, what the f. It is unacceptable games are being released like this. There's almost no real press coverage the game not actually working, but plenty of coverage for the release of it. Microsoft's XBox status page has removed all reference to Halo. They will get away with this.

Damn, source? Not that I don't believe you, just want to read more about how they divided labor.

In this thread, someone posted earlier which studios were involved with that. Sorry that's vague lol. Among that, in the Halo documentary the released, there were at least 3 different studios talking about what they did. Overall, 343i did very little besides supervising, I think. Everyone is busy with Halo 5. The MCC was supposed to be a stopgap for the fans.

I remember the UI (inherently not very intuitive) being someone else, not 343i. Why is it that lists don't restart the scroll at the end? Why can't we preview spartan colors on the spartan? Why does matchmaking bring us back to the main menu after a match?

And 343i truly did do the mm, they should be ashamed of themselves.
