Halo The Master Chief Collection |OT| Halo Never Died, It Was Just Missing In Action

Just started playing the H2A campaign. You know...it looks pretty damn crisp IQ wise for being sub-1080p. Honestly it's slightly difficult to tell there's a difference. Although I just started Outskirts so maybe it'll become noticeable later on.

Halo 4 also has some incredible fps drops in co-op. I got to about half way with 3 other peeps and some levels just didn't run anywhere near well. That said Halo 4 in co-op was massively fun, and has aged very very well visually - it could be an original Xbox One title now and I'd be impressed (except for frame rate).

I bought a Xbone this week just for MCC to play MP halo3 Valhalla at 60fps 1080p. This was a dream come true considering the underpar H4 on 360.
How the fuck could 343 and MS screw this up so badly?
Yes I'll agree the xbone is a great console and I'm really enjoying horizon 2 and sunset overdrive but MCC was meant to really grace the xbone.

Give it a week and I bet MCC will work smoothly for the majority of the time.

Yes it should have worked on Day-1, but nowadays I really don´t expect an MP-heavy title to run perfect on day-1 ... sad, but thats just the way it is.

If they fix the major bugs within 1-2 weeks I am OK.

Had some pretty awesome matches last night.

I finished up a Heroic run of Halo CEA last night and ventured back into multiplayer for the first time since launch when it was all jacked-up. I was actually able to get into a H2A and H2C match fairly quickly and had a blast. If I didn't have to work the next day, I would have stayed on for hours and played. Halo is back! lol

Halo CE is awesome. AotCR is one of the best levels in the franchise, and one of the best levels ever. The Library is probably longer than it needs to be, but it is actually quite a fun level filled with non-stop action combat, a cool homage to old school FPS games. And Two Betrayals, with it's great atmosphere and those crazy three way battles is very good too.

And yes, the visual repetition is really the only "big" problem the Halo CE Campaign has, and it is only annoying during the first playthrough. Once you get into the combat and start replaying levels, it stops being a problem. The encounters are so fun and replayable that you don't really think about the repetitive textures and re-used geometry.

Never thought I'd see someone say that Halo 2's AI is better than Halo CE's. LOL.

Halo 2's enemies may be more dangerous, but only because they do more damage. The actual AI behaviour is way inferior to Halo CE, which still has some of the best AI ever seen in a videogame (IMO only FEAR can compare)

And yes, you can throw a bunch of grunts and jackals and a couple of elites in a room, and it will make for a way more fun encounter than anything found in Halo 2. The AI and the gameplay are just that good. As I said, the combat in Halo CE is still unmatched to this day.
Agreed. I don't know what kind of pact Bungie struck with the devil to give Halo CE such fun AI, physics and encounters, but they were never able to make it happen again with later Halo games. Hell, even Halo CE vehicles handle better than in the sequels.

I share your pain. I didnt bought the Xbox One for Halo MCC alone; and I am having a blast with the console overall. But indeed MCC was one of my most expected title this year; if not the most expected. To see how 343 and MS spoiled this is really frustrating. Its like to be expecintg one of the best gaming experiences of the year and receive one of the biggest headaches gaming wise!

I'm giving a chance for it till the next-patch. Otherwise I will consider this MP dead for me, and will only play the campaing with a feeling of spoiled experience due to this ridiculous stuff.

It does look noticeably better than 900p. Lots of pixel shimmering in the first couple levels though, not sure if its gone after or I just got used to it.

I wanted to do online coop. I've been casually checking in on this thread but as far as I can tell I am completed screwed in this regard (even in the future), correct?

Does anyone have any MP tips for a beginner?
This is my first Halo game and I am usually getting like 2-5 kills per match. I'm not new to FPSes at all and I would like to think that I'm pretty good at some of them, but I feel so out of my depth here. :p

Oh, and frequently monitor your motion tracker.

Well, finally finished all the campaigns (solo), and I must say, the one that didn't age so well is Halo:CE. The repetitiveness, the backtracking, the repeated structures, lack of BR/long range weapons, and on top of that, fucking flood everywhere. Easily the worst out of the four in this collection. Halo 3's remains my favorite one forever and ever.

Technically I didn't face any issues.. besides framerate hiccups, the save glitch, and skipping 343 Guilty Spark. I loved playing through these games again and will do it again and again.

Now, back to the MP.. oh wait..

Learn the weapon locations for every map.

Just load up a game of the map and explore or watch a YouTube video showcasing them.

If you can get a power weapon, you will be guaranteed more kills than the average.

Thanks. I am trying but I think part of the issue is the matchmaking, in that I keep ending up in very small games (5 or 6 people) which doesn't help as there is less to shoot at. :p

Halo 4 online co-op with 4 players flat out doesn't work... The network lag is terrible no matter who hosts. I don't understand this - surely it's running the same netcode as the 360 version which was fine. So close to asking for a refund for this product as it is clearly in an unfinished state.

A bunch of control options are messed up in the games. For example, with the default "Recon" control scheme in Halo 2, pressing LB equips the second weapon in dual wielding or recharges it, but ALSO switches grenade type. You can't pick up a 2nd dual wielding weapon without switching grenade type unless you use Y.

There's also a control option that makes dual wielding unusable in Halo 3, but I forgot which one. Basically, trying to reload your left weapon would unequip it while reloading.

Wow bugs and shitty framerates galore, that's before going anywhere near the multiplayer.

Poor show Microsoft.

I think because the press fucked up and weren't thorough enough. I'll say this though, there has been chatter among gaming journalists that review copies will be declined if there's any kind of press embargo.

About time, maybe these "journalists" are tired of looking like assholes after they review a game. MCC got a 9 AFTER they reviewed the MP. Have some fucking integrity. They are a huge part of the problem because published can push out broken shit and get high scores.

I don't know how this got released. I know 343 outsources a lot of things and maybe from a project management standpoint they were being told different things. If 343 is going to outsource they really need a need way to QA. There is no reason the Xbox One should be having framerate issues with these games.

Raise your aim sensitivity speed to at least 7 for all games.

Something clearly went wrong. Maybe it was incompetent programmers, who knows. This is Microsoft's biggest IP. Let's be honest to, Halo fans are one of the most picky and fickle out there. This is far worse than anything else launching like this because the Halo fan base was in bad shape to begin with.

...and then there's ADS in H5.

By some act of God, I ended up getting into about 10 matches of BTB last night. Not just BTB, but objective BTB. Everything from H1 Danger Canyon CTF, to Bloodline CTF H2A, H2 Terminal 1 flag CTF(!), H3 Avalanche assault, to H3 Standoff multi flag. When this game works - it is simply amazing. Thats a hell of a gaming session and map lineup.

One thing ive noticed - usually when Halo games first hit, there is a sea of noobs for a bit until the serious gamers are left. Not so far in MCC, people are out for blood. Some people have been playing these games for over a decade - they know the maps and tactics down to the pixel. You gotta bring your A game almost every match.

It is funny seeing people dominate in H2 or 3 - then those same people are horrible at H1. H1 is hilarious online. If you just touch a teammate trying to get into your warthog its a betrayal. So many flag pick up fails. So good.

Does anyone else experience sound loss and choppiness while playing MP?
H2A has lots of sound issues and some of the maps like Stonetown are not optimized well. Lots of frame drops on that map. Bloodline runs fine though - perhaps they can iron those out in the future? I havent noticed any sound issues in the other games though.

It's weird because I played last night Halo 3 on Assembly and had sound loss and sound delay, and this morning I played Halo 2 on Terminal and experienced the same thing.

I got into a match of btb with a friend last night. The map chosen was Zanzibar and he got kicked out. The map loaded and it was a free for all 10 players and the map was a Hang em High remake. It still said Zanzibar if I paused.

I barely ever played any of the Halo games so it's kinda fun starting with the first.

However, is it a know limitation of Halo CE that you can't toggle the old/new visual style in cutscenes? I know you can do that in Halo 2 CE but I never really read anything about Halo CE.

Can do it during gameplay fine of course.

Were SMG starts in Halo 2 also?

You have the option to vote.for BR starts most of the time.
It was in Halo 2 and it was terrible back then. AR/SMG starts needs to fucking die already, it's been over ten years. Just give people both the BR/Pistol/DMR and AR/SMG on spawn already. Automatic rifles are boring as balls in Halo but if people want to use them whatever, just don't force it down everybody's throats like Bungie always did.

It looks like you cant switch in game for the cutscenes - but you can set the options to original graphics in the level menu - thats how youre able to see some of the opening cutscenes in the original graphics.

Holy shit guys, I just cannot play this game online.

Coming from someone who loved playing online back in the day there are now big issues.

NO teamwork, like back in the day everyone talked and we all worked as a team that's dead.

The 5vs5 in slayer on small maps, it's just horrible and always results in being shot in the back.

The game has serious connection issues, I don't see dedicated servers, I think we're P2P
which sucks as it's the same old lag fest :\

uneven teams.. My god it's so damn frustrating, especially as soon as they know they vote for an objective :\.

Bitterly disappointing, unless this patch on wednesday performs small miracles this game is going back.

Thanks, I'll do this :)

Although higher sensitivity allows you to turn around and react faster to shots coming from behind, I'd argue that aim sensitivity is down to personal preference. For example the Professional players use speeds as low as 3 or 4.

I've been playing since Combat Evolved and I've found I'm comfortable with my setting at 5.

My point is don't worry if higher speeds don't work for you, tone it down a little, see what works for you.

Now onto The Library Halo:CE. Heroic is a lot harder than I remember it being for some reason. I got stuck on Assault on the Control Room for ages when the hunters appear on the opposite bridge, at least until I found the rocket launcher.

Some of the maps are clearly made with short range starts in mind, and giving everyone a BR at all times really effs up the flow.

The Halo sandbox is pretty vast and, contrary to what some people seem to think, all of the weapons work great in the spaces they are built for. Blood Gulch is awful with AR starts in the same sense that Warlock is crappy with BR starts.

Here's a strange bug. After I was fed up with matchmaking, I was sitting in the lobby, minding my own business, not pressing any buttons or doing anything on the game for about five or ten minutes, and all of the sudden I am thrown into some random's party searching team slayer. In MCC, Matchmaking choose you?

This. I crank up the speed on games like CoD and Gears. But Halo? I'm right around 4/5.

The skulls for The Arbiter and The Oracle did not appear for me today while playing through. I'm not sure why.

The Arbiter's skull is Grunt Birthday Party, which I had activated so maybe that is why, but I did not have Famine activated so I am confused why it did not appear in The Oracle. Anybody have any idea?
