Halo The Master Chief Collection |OT| Halo Never Died, It Was Just Missing In Action

I'm confused about the P2P co-op, custom games lag complaints. They ae using the same system they used at release right? While obviously not as good a solution as dedicated servers it still should work to an acceptable standard. I played a ton of co-op and custom games on 3 and it worked fine.

so online co-op is a laggy broken mess?

how about custom matches? really disappointed to hear about p2p for both.... custom matches are a huge part of the fun i had with halo

online co-op is fine as long as everyone present has a functioning internet connection, exactly the same as the previous games.

I'm assuming it's a server load thing, they have to make sure they have the free capacity to generate a server that maybe 2 people are going to sit in by themselves.
When that could potentially have the same amount of resource usage as a game with 16 people in.

Maybe further down the line we will get it, or perhaps it will be a "pro" feature.

Isn't this the whole point of Azure and spinning up servers whenever needed?

that's what i'm wondering too. my custom match experience in halo 2 was always good from what i remember

i don't recall doing much of any online co-op though

really hope we hear some more impressions from people with the game.

My question is why are you guys waiting until now to download when the preload has been up for weeks?
I was getting the retail version but since i could't pay for it with traded games credit at my store i bought a bunch of xbox prepaid cards thinking my 20mb connection should be faast enough for the download to be ready by the time the game unlocks.

Not my fault to expect a service to work as advertised is it?

It's been on sale for 8 days now still didn't change the fact that people are waiting until the last minute.

And that means everyone is going to pick up their console at the start of a two month promotional event?

Different people are going to pick up their consoles at different times for different reasons.

And that's to say nothing of any myriad of other scenarios where someone already had an Xbox, but decided to pick up the game last minute.

The service is working as advertised because the game will download to system eventually. I preloaded mines weeks ago and it installed in two hours.

Still doesn't change the scenario. Everyone has had ample time to preinstall the game so the slow install times are due to bandwidth issues which every service is affected by.

You asked why people are downloading it on the run up to the game's release.

No one is questioning whether or not Microsoft's servers are shitting bricks.

I have really slow connection and will download it for next 30 hours :(
So I would like to ask if I will be able to play some campaign before it finishes downloading?
I could play Forza Horizon and SO and it worked really well.

Considering the amount of work that would be required to rewrite those portions of four games, plus the fact that no single studio was doing all this work... expecting Azure stuff seems like a pipe dream.

But all of those have already been wrote for matchmaking... Unless they are lying and it is p2p?

It also could be that people just have way shittier networking setups at home today than back in the day. More people were wired, and there weren't a gazillion smartphones and tablets in people's homes, so the people who were wireless didn't have as much interference.

Would be nice if MS just enabled dedicated servers for everything-- they've got the resources, and I'm sure this game is going to sell enough to justify it. Plus most of the load is still going to be used by matchmaking anyway.

Dedicated servers were enabled 100% for titanfall.. But not halo

It will be easy to prove, start a custom with friends, tell them what are trying, then swith off your xbone.

Thats not proof either...its weird that we have had no official word on this...could be that there is a p2p fallback in the system (we hope there is so it works when those servers are gone) and they haven't spun up azure for customs (i will live in hope)

Searching for a game (haven't been able to find one, been trying intermittently since 2pm UK) and I finally get a "can't connect to host" message. What the fuck?

Ofcourse that is proof.. If you start the custom game then switch off your bone, it will freeze the match until some else is selected.. no?

Dude check my thread and read the reply from frankie..

Man I am praying that I am wrong and azure is there for customs as well

Unlocked about 3 hours ago, played Halo CE first, landed on the ring and immediately hit by nostalgic goosebumps. Its been more than 10 years but the game holds pretty good even today.

MS were still getting paid for that though from Respawn/EA, for halo they're kinda giving these servers "away" for free lol so it's not exactly the same

Not saying that makes it any better but yeah, you can't really compare Titanfalls use of servers to Halo's

Microsoft paid for everything lol They are also their servers for their game with halo

MS paid for Titanfall's azure time? Do you have a source on that?

Edit: yeah I know I would still expect halo to use azure for everything, but if respawn(or EA) is paying for azure time in custom matches I don't think it's a fair comparison, it's up to respawn to use their azure time how they want since they are paying for it, MS doesn't care how it gets used in Titanfall.

He doesn't mention the server situation...he was talking about match selection

Also the only place that has the game right now may not have azure spun up yet

Yeah, should have used an *, Halo CE is as bad as it was on 360.

I've only played Halo 3 on the MCC in co-op apart from that and it was fine.

Can the rest of the world hurry up and get the game please. I haven't been able to find an online match yet. :(

Anyone able to find a game in MP? Been stuck on searching for players for ages.

yeah it's not doing anything yet

I don't think it's anything to do with that tbh. Loads of people get games a day+ early in the UK, it's pretty much the only reason to pre-order now. I'm not expecting this to just... work when digital orders get in.
