Nightfall on a (broken) Halo ring? Well hell yeah!

Isnt there supposed to be a small trailer today?
Edit: welp, right above my post. Looks awesome. What were they talking about with the
mining? I mean what element?

That teaser was so cool. Looks like there might be some horror elements to the show which I like. The production values are so high, budget must be pretty big on this.

Like I said in the gaming side thread. Yea Halo 2 did this with an interesting character and it didn't work out so well. Needless to say my hype for Halo 5 just hit a new low.

I really enjoyed how the did it in Halo 2. Although that may be nostalgia talking.

Wait. Wait, wait, wait.

This "element". Could it be the first human's "cure" to the Flood? That was designed to kill humans as a way to remove the Flood's source of bodies. Is that right? Could the Forerunners discovered this and have it stored on their ring only to be discovered later?

It'd be great if on top of the Chief-Locke duality in Halo 5, there was a third reveal in the style of Halo 2 that an Arbiter campaign also became available.

Honestly, I'm seeing a ton of potential in Locke - my main concern is that they're going to make Locke's playable sections feel the most "modern" (aim down sights, using cover, blood on the screen, etc.) when in reality he's got a perfect setup to go in the complete opposite direction. Have Chief's campaign feel classic Halo, make Arbiter's a CQC-fest with a lot of "think, don't shoot" lore elements thrown in, and pit Locke against a bunch of weird enemies like the Prometheans and neo-Flood that force him to dig into his library of crazy new prototypical ONI weaponry. I still want to see an in-game implementation of the Hard Sound Rifle and that Gauss Sniper, dammit.

Didn't the Primordial say that the cure didn't actually work? That the Flood were just messing with them?

I thought the cure was that it killed the humans. There's a quote somewhere that I read that said something like a third of all humans had to die to hold the flood back. Maybe what the Primordial meant was that they could have destroyed the humans regardless, however the "cure" could still kill humans. I'm going to look this up and make sure I'm not spouting crap.

Nevermind, looks like I'm spouting bullshit:

Quarantine attempts failed to halt the spread of the Flood, human leaders decided to take a third of the population and genetically alter them by inserting genes designed to fight Flood biomass. They then took this third of the population and "fed" them to the Flood. The new genes aggressively killed off Flood bio-matter and destroyed the Flood until the few that survived were forced to into hiding.

i would not play the game if they added that shit to halo

The didn't actually cure the flood. The flood stopped eating them to make them think they had.
Hype.

Human weapons look really big with normal humans compared to spartans.

How does a busted Halo support a breathable atmosphere? That's very odd. I guess this has to be Installation 04B.

The only issue with Halo 2 was that the Arbiter levels just sucked. Unless Halo 5 is in development hell or something we shouldn't encounter another situation like that again.

They specified it's "the ring Chief destroyed," so it's 04A. I mentioned if in the Locke thread, but keep in mind the Forerunners made multiple artificial atmospheres, followed compartmentalization to a fault, and the tech texture on the outside of the Halo ring repeats. There's probably an individualized control center for every "slice" of the ring or so, and as long as that's not heavily damaged, the ring would still output atmosphere. They are engineered to be able to survive a galactic holocaust, after all.

Yeah, I knew this. I realised I was wrong anyway :s

The weapons do look a bit weird. They look a bit better on the teaser trailer though.

Also, guys. We're on the 117th page. Heh :p

Umm... So still in Iceland but a while back we were at thingvellir and drove past a film suit. I barely got a look at it since we drove right by, but after seeing the key art... It might have been Nightfall... All I saw was a black dude in a gold tinted futuristic outfit. Locke? But I thought they finished filming before that.

According to Stinkles his armor's bronze, so yeah, it was probably him.

You actually came across the film set of Black Dynamite 2: Space Race.

Frankie just posted this in the Gaming side:

We finished shooting two weeks ago, so that was made for comic con, in a hurry, without any vfx or final color correction.

Not an excuse or a mea culpa, more of a, "and that's pre pre alpha..."

Oh, you said a while back. For some reason I thought you implied you saw it today.

Yeah, could likely be Nightfall then.

Correct me if i am wrong, but why is everyone assuming we are going to play as Agent Locke and the Chief in the campaign? They said that Agent Locke was a playable character.

Isn't it entirely possible that we will play as Master Chief the whole campaign and then play as Locke maybe in the "Spartan Ops" Missions, or something along those lines? Maybe he's an optional character in a firefight mode?

I don't think we should assume he's playable in the campaign, unless they said that specifically and i missed it?

He could also be player 2 in co-op.

by that logic, we could have ADS and shit in MP just because they havent said we wont.

With their inclusion in Nightfall I think it's a given we'll hear monks in 5.

As a main theme, I mean. They were there in Halo 4 for a split second, but that's all we really heard.

Hopefully 343 realizes that everyone wants to hear the epic monk chants.

That's....not the same thing at all.

Just trying to be open minded here, and provoke good discussion. There is a very good chance he will be playable in the campaign. It just hasn't been said.

I can make the statement that The Arbiter is playable in Halo 3. But if you play Halo 3 campaign by yourself that will never be true.

Hopefully it's the original installation 04 in the trailer and we find out more about the crashed ship, it's probably the greatest remaining mystery in the Halo universe.

Not sure how I feel about playing as Locke, but hey it's not Palmer right?

Is that the ship which crashes and is leaking atmosphere which 342 guilty spark is looking at?

What the hell was that all about...?

Yeah, I was thinking something along these lines, too.

That halo ring reveal at the end was great.
Even after all these years, standing on a halo and seeing it curve up in the distance is so cool. It's such an awesome, alien visual.

Couldn't agree more.

if they kill off Chief in Halo 6 or W/e and make Locke the main character... at least keep the games the same, dont add superfluous modern shit for no reason. keep it Halo.

Loving the idea of dual-protagonists. Hopefully one side will be Locke doing his ONI-spook work with the Arbiter and the other side will be Master Chief, hunting down and facing off in a REAL confrontation against the UrDidact with Blue Team at his back.

Hell, if they throw in Arbiter as a playable character too, let's see some Dual energy sword gameplay. Double hell, let's accidentally rediscover the IsoDidact and a bunch of surviving Forerunners when the Janus Key is united. And let's reawaken the Flood once it senses living Forerunners are back on the scene.

Man, there's SO MUCH potential here. I hope 343 really blow us away.

I think halo 2's campaign overall was poop. Outside of the story I don't know why people liked it so much. The flood were ruined as an enemy and then they added goofy gorilla brutes. They ruined hunters and gave them the most annoying noise ever. And they added drones which are also stupid. The only likable addition for me were the prophets.
my opinion!
