Have you realized that we haven't seen a single beautiful/sexy female character in both Sony's and MS's shows??

Why are you surprised OP? old games didn't have beautiful women too.

At this point in time, mainstream Western-focused media events are only ever going to offend people by accident. Companies are clearly scrutinizing how they portray woman in these events, although it's unfortunate the angry-screaming woman (extra points if she's a woman of color) is becoming something of a stereotype.

That said, while it's conceptually not in the spirit of the original post, the female avatars shown in Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis weren't horrible. Hopefully we'll see some better stuff out of Japan, during or around the time of Tokyo Game Show's digital event.

I think we'll be waiting a while for a truly sexy female character to show up in a mainstream Western game.
Japan gave us 2b this gen. Hopefully they can do something similar next gen too.

Beauty is subjective. What you think is beautiful was taught to you by those who were trying to sell a certain aesthetic when you were younger. Young people playing these new games will have a different perspective of beauty as the culture in entertainment changes.

What you're feeling right now is the struggle and frustration of getting old as the world that you know gets replaced by a new one defined by generations younger than you. It happened to your parents and their parents also. The only thing we can strive for is to not sound like our parents. It's the only control we have. So personally I welcome this new brand of beauty, it won't be around for long and will be replaced just as quickly as it's inception by younger generations. The cycle continues. Then I can feed off the tears of others as they come to the same realisation. Because bitterness is the intoxicant of the ageing. Its amazing to be able to roll my eyes at younger generations whilst knowing in the grand scheme of things it all means absolutely nothing. Especially how women look in video games.

Just give me a floating ball of light that can shoot guns and let's move on.
I hate when people just have to let you know how smart and enlightened they think they are.

This is atypical sjw type resetera response.
Why do you think people want attractive people in games want them to jerk off to? That's not the case.

The point is there is agenda pushing and social engineering afoot. A game in the style of Conan the barbarian would not be allowed to be made today. Attractive Amazon curvy woman with little clothes and muscle bound man with little clothes, only the man would be allowed.

Hell they are now going after hair too. Look at outerworlds. All females have short man style cuts. Ugly faces. There is nothing wrong with wanting to play as an attractive person male or female. Why do people like you so against this.

I wonder if it's an age or political thing? I also find it crazy that the people against attractive females in games are all fine with naked women in music videos and are pro porn. But have an attractive woman or semi attractive women in a game... Reeeeeeee we... Muhsoggyknees.
Speak for yourself, chump...
*nuts to GTAV thots*
*salivates over creating dream tranny with massive dong in CP2077*.

Just kidding! Lol.

Textbook "butterface." (But-her-face for those not hip to the lingo)

Perfect example of the behind the scenes SJW/WOKE tinkering they did on this game, as the real life model she is based on is actually pretty damn cute but they fucked up her face in the game so she wouldn't be "too pretty" and piss off the beard legged feminazis.

Dina's face looks identical to the model's face in the final game; there's no difference.

If they put a sexy/beautiful female character then people will say they are objectifying women. They can't win basically in any scenario because we live in the rage/everything is offensive era.

Sex still sells. It's just that the slightly nutty feminist types seem to be far more prevalent in games development than in movie and film.

For the most part I assume it has to do with the amount of trans people in games dev right now. It must be rough for actual women who look around them and wonder why so many men are deciding how actual women appear.

Sexual rationing.

But I think Alloy is pretty feminine looking/attractive, but I guess I could see how she's 'borderline' for some.

Spoilers: I have not played the first game so I dunno how she behaves or acts.

Eh. Get woke, go broke seems worse in film to me, to be honest. Look at all the recent flops out of Hollywood that cared more about agendas than story.

...though games journalism and community are far more headbanging than the film and tv equivalents.

It'll be interesting if the next Tomb Raider game takes Lara back to her roots a bit, given how poorly Shadow did. She's the poster girl for sexuality in video games. I'd love to see what sales figures would be like for a more old school version of her now.

Nah, I haven't noticed OP, maybe because I'm not 16 anymore and my life no longer revolves around seeing tits and ass. If this kind of thing is important to you, maybe you should seek out, you know, real women to satisfy that need instead of virtual waifus?

Personally I thought Alicia Vikander was a great fit for Lara Croft. She was obviously a lot more tomboy-ish than the original games (and the Angelina movies) but her portrayal seemed more believable. Plus she's a hottie anyway.

Lara only really works as a video game character for me, but no arguments on Vikander. Fassbender is a lucky boy.

I think she worked well for young Lara and the Rise style origin story but not sure I'd believe her as adult Lara as much as I did Angelina.

Is a developer willing to take the risk and make a character full of sex appeal is the real question.

You have to remember they go for broad appeal, not appealing to just men with broads! Gaming is mostly a family place still, more Movie and Applebee's than Anime and Dive bar.

Unless it fits into the game design, like an Until Dawn, I don't see it happening. Sure we'll get characters like Elena and Chloe from Uncharted that look decent, but the days of bombshell old school Laura Croft are gone I think?

Angelina Lara was amazing lol what are u on about

it's a shame coz men have so many buff sexy hero dudes to look up to James Bond and Indiana Jones both big influences on Lara both big ladies' men. that was an essential part of her original character as globe trotting playgirl. We had bodybuilder dudes like Arnold in the 80s. Women have action heroes but it feels like they didn't get a chance to have many sexy badass types and already we are saying "no more at least in games" for some reason (?)

it is odd how the reboot came out and the only hint of sex in it was a scene that got blown out of proportion as a "rape scene". It had no sexual content in it just one man out of hundreds trying to kill her who himself gets killed. The game became infamous for its gratuitously violent death shots and dismal obsession with torture pron aesthetics. on top of this we are told we "want to protect and save Lara" because all the charm and sex and confidence had been removed and replaced with misery and murder and horror.

so it's just amazing that people are so afraid of sexy girls in games we are willing to destroy all character and make a grim dark reboot trilogy that has the entire world saying "the story was un-interesting garbage" and yet the people wanting old Lara are STILL the bad guys for some bizarre reason.

The difference between men's buff role models and women's busty and voluptuous role models is that the former is attainable naturally while the other is not. Men can lift weights and get muscular, but a woman can't just eat or exercise a certain way to develop larger breasts or a fatter buttocks.

newborn babies prefer to look at attractive faces

"A 2004 study in the UK observed that newborn babies prefer to look at attractive faces, which suggests that babies do not learn face recognition, but rather come with the ability from birth."

Yeah Lara was uglified as well. Just like Dina and Mass Effect girl. Its weird because they go for more realism right? But yet they uglify the image of an actual living woman. If you want somewhat more mediocre looks, why not cast a, you know, less attractive woman?

But then we still have Japan. I think Capcom does a great job rendering their characters, like Jill in RE3. I personally find her to be the best incarnation of Jill, less of a doll than the one in REmake. She's strong, heroic, good looking but not over sexualized (that is outside possible unlocks or mods). They don't have to look masculine for this. I think the current trend is almost offensive towards women, if you go by videogames then a huge batch of women look like some sort of hermaphrodites.

The answer to this is simple. Once people start saying the character looks like shit, they think they can get away with it saying "Hey look! That's the model we used to create this character, how can you say she is ugly?"

Some men can lift weights for years and never gain more than 10 pounds of muscle. Actors/models are all on the juice.

If anything I'm happy that there's a trend now to make women look more natural. Looking back at Hitman Blood Money where every female npc had the same goofy face, some sexy/slutty outfit and unnaturally large breasts, that stuff was cringe.

Your not kidding. Except the juice has moved from celebs and athletes to regular gyms everywhere.

Ive lifted on and off for years. When I first started there was maybe one in the gym. That number has drastically increased.
