HBO Original | The Last of Us | Part II OT | You Can't Stop This

I'd say make Ellie unlikable is one of the main goals. Since the story of part 2 is being split into 2 seasons, I guess by the end of this season Ellie would have become quite unlikable.
I hope so, because that kinda happens in the game too, but they seem to be trying really hard to soften her character this season and I hope it isn't because they're bracing the audience for major changes to the story.

Weakest episode of the season yet but still an enjoyable watch. Some odd directing choices like scenes suddenly ending abruptly, and Dina's excessively melodramatic and drawm-out reaction to the bite didn't work for me, although the scene with the bite itself was kind of genius. Great saucepan monologue. Ramsey's A-ha was on point. Hot lesbo fingerbanging is always welcome.

Yeah but imagine how much their breath and post apocalyptic vaginas stink. Not to mention the underarm odor. Could they show someone brushing their teeth at least once? Shit.

I feel like the writing has taken a nose dive since last season, this episode has been the weakest so far.

How do you find her softer when they've barely started day 1? Was she unlikeable at that point of the story in the game? I'm pretty sure she wasn't for me.

Her demeanor is much more bitter in the game than the show. As some posters have pointed out in multiple scenes just in last night's episode it was very different. We'll see if that changes next week.

Awful. With pride flag and all…. In 2013 Seattle? Cmon.
And this is not Ellie. Ellie is a psychotic murderer.
This Ellie is a sitcom character

Her demeanor..on day1? Just because they changed the part where she berated Dina for hiding being pregnant? That didn't fit with the way they worked out that reveal...so what else? again, too soon to consider her even the least bit unlikable

I mean, the game was like that too, all the infected encounters during the horse section were in specific buildings. There was no combat when riding around.

Yes and no, game has alot more action in this section for gameplay purposes of course and the horse gets blown up by a tripwire. Also Ellie gets pissed at Dina and calls her a burden when she learns she's pregnant.
Yeah, right. I was thinking surely this coiuldn;t be what the game is like otherwise it would have copped far more criticism.

I'm not sure how much more I can take of the lesbian adventure of 2 small girls in the zombie apocalypse.

I'll watch next episode and make a call.

No. Since Joel was killed she has not given off the vibes to me of someone who's laser focused on revenge or being eaten up inside with heartbreak. In the game they give that impression off extremely well. The show has not done that for me. If I never played the game and I was placed in front of these last couple episodes with no context with what happened to Joel, you could have told me they were going on a vacation in a post apocalyptic world and I would have believed it. In the game you can tell something is tormenting Ellie every minute of every scene.

as you shouldn't...I mean why would you know what's "going on" before watching the show?
That wasn't the implication. I don't mind not knowing. I do think that closing from Jackson hole to Seattle on horseback in winter seem arduous but not for these girls.

Yeah wtf was that whole scene. The sudden kiss and sex after announcing she was pregnant (I mean she is not pregnant with her baby), the dad thingy, "I guess we are going to be parents...and Jessie I guess".
Weird
Some of the best damned sex I've had was "make up sex" after the emotional heated arguments turned into primal hormonal roller coasters.

I would think it's that way for most people, lol.

While cheese based off a game, they grew up in a post apoc world. Their lived experience and psychological make up would be different, I would think.

Episode had brokeback mountain vibes
Dina needs a panty scene.

Yep. I've been watching this with my wife. She knows I've played the game. After reading some replies here about this episode, I don't think I'm gonna watch anymore of it with her. Imagine the conversation "Simpatico picked the weirdest show for us to watch....*explains contents of posts above since episode release*". I'm just not gonna do it guys. It's pretty clear they don't put much stock into making cool clicker episodes anymore. That's all I'm really here for. I mostly read GAF when the cutscenes were on in my TLOU2 playthrough. I don't know why I'd sit down to consume a worse version of the worst part of that. Especially when I'm implicitly cosigning it. I'll be checking to make sure I don't miss that cool clicker episode. Godspeed fellas.

The speed of the 'Oh so you are somehow immune, I'm pregnant, let's bang' scene just didn't feel right. They could have taken a little bit more time with it.

I'm not a zombie apocalypse lesbian, but if I've just seen the first person ever not to turn after getting bitten on the arm, my first instinct is not going to be to have that person jam their fingers inside me. Just saying.

I'd have a few questions about whether they can transmit the infection even if they're immune to it.

I've been in the opposite side of IGN's review. IGN's review didn't like episode 2 and I thought it might have been the best episode in the series to date. IGN loved episode 4 and I thought it might've been the weakest episode of the season. If not weakest, second weakest. So if it continues I have hope for the final 3 episodes because IGN didn't love em and so far I've been on the opposite end of how they felt about this season.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with WatchMojo of all things, but holy shit they really took a mature scenario between Ellie and Dina from the game and turned it into a CW scene.

I can't help but wonder what motivated the creative team to diverge so wildly from the original narrative in this season. I don't necessarily dislike it, but it just seems strange as it's the exact opposite approach from what they did in season 1.

I speculated before that having Bella Ramsay not really act much like TLOU2 Ellie might have been a choice of the writers, and the scene between Tommy and Gail in Episode 3 more-or-less confirms it. The discussion of Ellie being a dishonest person by nature only fits the show's version of her; TLOU2 Ellie was completely transparent about her intention to hunt down the WLF no matter what and made no attempt to deceive anyone about her motivation for doing so.

Lack of confidence in this source material or ability to adapt it. It's a really hard game to adapt to TV for so many reasons.

Honestly, for all the gripes I have with this season, if they nail the museum episode I'll be satisfied. It's a truly special moment in gaming. I hope they play the Apollo track in the scene as well, they need to, and give the lift off effects. They nail that I'm fine with the season even if it ends in a lame way.

The episode faltered in the last 10 minutes with the pacing and awkwardly rushed sex. But I've heard of stupider encounters amongst young, horny adults, so I'll let it slide. Missed opportunity though. They built up so much URST and let it go with a whimper.

The rest of the episode did the storytelling better than the game, imo. Every moment with Isaac was *chef's kiss*.

The action sequences were solid and their teamwork was fantastic to watch, unlike in the game where Dina is FUCKING USELESS! Ellie sticking her arm in the way was a nice touch. Now that they fired that bullet early, I wonder how they will change things up in Santa Barbara.

The music store was so faithfully done that it gave us goosebumps. Great performances by both actors. They have excellent chemistry throughout and Isabela was a great find. Show Dina >>> game Dina. She's going to make the final chapter hurt even more.

I'm all horded out this season. Would like more intimate sequences, like that stalker encounter in the first episode. They exist for a reason. It's time to let them shine.

And that better not be the last we see of Shimmer. An abandoned guitar AND horse is a bit too much.

Yeah I am running it for my wife by constantly commenting how bad it is compared to the game

It was the other way around for me with season 1. She just couldn't stop comparing and complaining so much that I had to watch each episode twice to appreciate it. But season 2 clicked for her and now I can finally enjoy it for what it is instead of what she wanted it to be. All it took for her to be onboard was for them to throw in more infected and connect the episodes with one long story instead of 8 short stories.

80% of the episode was good, but the ending was dumb af.

A lot of the changes they made is making the story worse than the actual video game.

- No Jordan
- Ellie getting captured by the WLF
- Dina's pregnancy reveal
- Ellie saving Dina and killing Jordan

Ellie was dead set on revenge during the first two days, and they're making this more into a love story between Dina and Ellie.

It's definitely a different vibe to the game but I can see why they've made the change. I don't think people would be on board for watching a whole season of Ellie being miserable and unsympathetic. I reckon they are saving a big point of no return moment for episode 6 or 7 where her anger and pain will really show.

I'm enjoying the show for what it is. It's an interpretation of the story for a different medium/audience so not expecting a like for like adaption. Don't like most of the changes but the way I see it, this show is not primarily meant for people who played the games. The source material is still there to enjoy as well. The show is really making me want to go back and play the games. I only played part 2 once when it released, due to the emotional rollercoaster it was, but feeling ready to return.

Dina is pregnant. Her hormones are in overdrive.

The show and game are obviously woke as fuck but I'm still really enjoying it. How many episodes?

but of course... you wonder why?

They are going to milk the gay sex scenes as much as possible, since it drives up views and 'controversy'

Jesus Christ, burn it with fire ✝️. I'm a fan of the games but I now know choosing not to watch this series was the right decision, time is the most precious resource have and God forbid I waste it on this slop.

I really love this show but as many said before , my problem with this season is Ellie.

Not because i dont think Bella Remsey is a bad actress because she isnt but because she´s still playing Ellie from Season 1 (1st game).

Ellie in the 2nd game is a rage/revenge driven character and so far (besides the hallway scene after the conversation with the therapist) i´ve not seen this ellie and that is really ruin the show for me.

We should all be thankful for The Last of Us. It changed the way sophisticated people look at gamers. Before, I was just a nerd. But thanks to Neal, moustached people in Brooklyn gastropubs want to have conversations with me.
