Also it appears he is Eric from True Blood's brother.

Haven't started yet, what can I compare it to?

if you compare it to Twin Peaks you will be dissapointed. It is inspired by Twin Peaks but cant be compared with it.

See it as a Werewolf/Vampire/Hunter-series with elements of Twin Peaks and The Kingdom (the Danish original, Riget). And it is with teenagers as main characters, so expect that to affect the series as well.

Had to stop in the middle of episode 3 to watch NBA playoffs, but I'm not sure if I want to continue on with the show. I'm just not feeling it.

Finished it.
Shelly being a franken-monster now makes sense.
The last two episodes were the best of the season.

10 episodes in and I'm not sure if it's gotten better or I've just gotten used to it/drawn in by it. But I'm genuinely entertained by each episode now.

Wow, this show was a hot mess.

I felt obligated to finish all 13 episodes just because they were all so readily available to watch and I somehow hoped it would start making sense at some point. But to have to wait to the last 30 minutes of the 13th episode......

I appreciate in part what the creators were trying to do here and if there is a second season may watch but not feeling enthusiastic about it.

The fact that the actors were as attractive as they were made the show more tolerable.

Basically as horrible as the current season of Vampire Diaries is I would rather watch it instead, at least it isn't trying to be something its not.

And I subtracted stars from my Netflix rating because I had to google upir.

I haven't googled yet but I presumed it meant
that they could persuade people to anything sort of like the vampires in true blood. I will google now.

Edit, just googled, good to know.

Can you explain it to me? I think I know what it means but I'm not 100% on it.

While the true definition of the laboratories have yet to be explained, Shelly was killed as a baby since Olivia (Famke) is an upir and they typically enjoy feeding on children, and Shelly wasn't special like Roman. Since Roman was depressed, Olivia had Shelly's soul scientifically revived in the lab, but with deformities.

Hmmm, anything about this went completely over my head. It does makes a lot of sense like this.
I guess if the second season happens they can put Shelly into the new pretty shell that is being made in that Ouroboros box. No one would be hunting her for the murders this way anymore.

Yeah, it was a plot arc that wasn't thrown into the forefront besides a few moments.
The biggest movement of the story was when the uncle tells Shelly the truth and she goes running off crying, along with anytime people who care for her see what she looks like on the inside (Peter sees her 'spirit/soul' when they drive by after abandoning their trailer). In terms of characterization, the writers made Shelly an intellectual when she writes on her computer, yet monstrous by appearance. Add in that her name is "Shelly", a nod to Mary Shelly, and the dots line up for a modernization of Frankenstein, albeit it's not the most clever or well-written story.

Really dug it. No Season 2 announce yet (judging from @Eliroth feed) but really dug how it escalated. Fairly crappy start, but delivered at the end IMO.

They can't do a S2 until the second novel comes out.

And thanks for going for the whole Shelly thing, I figured that's what it was.

I expect that
Olivia will also return next season in some form, maybe deformed in some way.

are you sure that's right? I thought Norman and JR were both alive when Shelly died and that JR brought the baby to the Godfrey building to revive her.

Then after JR realized something was wrong with the baby after she was revived and decided to kill the baby and himself. I though the shot the baby in the right eye and that's why her eye was fucked up as she cannot die?

I guess I'm probably wrong but what was with the scene of JR and Norman driving to the Godfrey building at night with JR carrying something (casket or something? I forget but I took it to be Shelly. What was the point of that scene? I forget what episode it was I think four or five?).

I only made it about half way through the first episoide and I hate to say it....

But it seemed very amaterish.

And I thought the acting was borderline. Not horrendous, but not quality stuff at all.

I guess I am concerned. I need to watch more, but I am concerned.

And I love dark stuff like this. Love American Horror story, for example. Walking Dead. That stuff.

It just stuck out as kinda rough around the edges.

According to a few people who read the book, Olivia gave away her first baby and then with Shelly, killed her (perhaps on accident).

Text taken from a reader of the book "Shelly also had a red caul which Olivia ate but she mixed it with mushrooms and wine which I think caused Shelly's death. So she didn't mean for Shelly to die. I think the red stuff she was eating was Roman's caul."

Without reading the book, I'm going off of hearsay for the most part.

I had high hopes for this show but was left watching solely for Famke and some mild interest in the storyline.

Anyone trying to use Twin Peaks as comparison/marketing tool should shake their head.

I came for famke. Her fake accent killed everything. Its jarring. I thought she and her son were practcing fake accents or something. Then it kept going. Eh, hard to commit time.

good show so far. shows like vampire diaries are like soap operas. This is different and better. It does have a David Lynch like quality to it. People either hate that style or love it. The music soundtrack is pretty awesome as well!

My girlfriend and I lasted about 5 minutes. There was some conversation happening in a classroom, then we looked at each other and I hit the back button. There was just something so off about it.

Netflix reported earnings today.

Metrics weren't given but from CNBC it was mentioned that more people tuned into Hemlock Grove on the weekend vs. House of Cards. No actual numbers were given but that could bode well for a season 2 etc.,

Finished it and really liked it. The show definitely gets a lot better in the second half of the season.

Hope they'll do a second season.

I'd like to revise my earlier sentiments and say that after episode 2 I am pretty astonished at how bad the acting is, especially from the teens and even Famke. Good god that accent. It comes and goes. It's bad and it isn't even consistent.

Then that whole scene at the dance, with the girls getting ready, the interactions - almost every bit felt like someone's high school project. A very high-end, high-budget project, but with the same bad acting you'd find on... sorry to say it... youtube.

That's a shame, this show is trash

So I guess this thread is only 4 pages for a reason.......
Just finished episode 2 and idk if I even wanna go any further.
Might continue just to see what's going on in the city, but it's nothing spectacular for me so far.

I haven't watched it yet (been really busy) but I find it crazy this pulled MORE than House of Cards.

I mean, I suppose it's more of a lowest common denominator thing, but usually good critical acclaim would imply good ratings.

The character Shelly is the only thing that is going to keep me with the show.

I am 2 1/2 episodes in and I think Shelly is adorable and really the only true creative sauce in the show. I hate to say that too. I am sooooo this show's audience in terms of dark horror stuff, which this was totally looking like, based on the run-up. This may not be dark enough for me. Depends on where they go with Shelly.

I really hope we get to see her as a child, or, what the fuck was in that basinett up in the attic on an I.V. drip. I am guessing by the name that "Shelly" as in Mary Shelly, is a frankenstein-esque creation of some sort.
But even that is kind of a low-brow reference, as in
"GET IT???? GET IT!!!?!?!?!" LIKE FRANKENSTIEN!!!!

Yeah it's just a lot more accessible. Werewolves are more popular, especially with the younger Netflix crowd, than political dramas I would suspect.

EP2
When roman noticed his classmate with a tampon heading to the bathroom and he followed so he could eat her out for her blood, did anyone else laugh out loud?

I could only make 2 episodes in.

I thought it started fairly weak, but I'm currently on Episode 5 and it seems to be getting better. I also though about dropping the series about three episodes in, but it's hooking me in.
