Hollow Knight: Silksong |OT| It’s SHAW-time!!!!

If there was no pre-order or preloading it's because Team Cherry didn't want to. Probably to prevent spoilers, maybe there's actually something of a story that can be spoiled đź‘€
Bought the original but never played it so not going to buy this one right now, will wait for a sale even if it comes in 6 months, my backlog is even longer. However it's fun watching fans struggling to get the game.
How does pre-orders allow spoilers? We're talking pre-orders not early access. The only difference was people would have been able to purchase the game a few days/weeks ago rather than needing to today.

As someone who never really followed this series, can anybody give me a quick summary why it's so insanely popular?

In all seriousness, I think it found a place with folks that were new or never experienced a metroidvania.
It landed in a time where that genre had a recent hit (Ori) and this game released with the overall art design and music being very polished.

While some may consider it "the best metroidvania" (not by a long shot imo) it was enough to carry interest into the follow up from the Ori devs which wasn't received as well as the first Ori or Hollow Knight.

Then covid happened and the game was delayed multiple times, became a meme, and finally it was released today, with no pre-orders and no outlet coverage to drive day 1 purchase surges on all platforms at once to generate media headlines (smart on side of Team Cherry)...again IMO.

GamePass is completely fucked too. Getting an error code 0x803f8001 saying I need to sign in and verify the license (am already signed in and re-signed in too)
I had no issue, but I just got the license and started the download from my computer since I'm at work. You could try that

Its a very satisfying Metroidvania with a great art style, atmosphere and ost. But it has an absolutely batshit crazy fanbase who for some reason parade it around like its the jesus christ of video games. I love the game, but the fanbase is borderline undertale-like.

Got it, so basically it's a very good Metroidvania, with a fanbase of rabid dweebs who adopted it as part of their identity.

Will definitely try it out. And avoid the fanbase.

In Switch when you preorder a game it preloads it automatically. Pirates can dump the rom and start playing it in hacked Switches immediately (that's how Tears of the Kingdom was leaked a week or so before the launch date), and they can spoil the game by tweeting about it, or posting in forums, etc.

IIRC I quit HK because I had no idea what to do or where to go, or maybe I just wasn't motivated to beat some difficult boss, anyway I might reinstall it now that's passed some time.

It's exactly the same as Hollow Knight so far. I've looped back round to the starting village. Cleared out the first map seller of their stuff and found 1 secret room. Going to go cook and eat and get all that out the way because I can see about 4 branching paths and will want to fully commit to it later.

So weird this isn't even showing as available/released on PSN... don't even know when to expect this to pop, at this point.

Has anyone even seen it purchasable on PSN?

Not sure how Sony screwed this up but people have been saying that PSN typically updates at Noon eastern (in a half hour)... so check back then and see if things have changed.

Honestly it's a combination of having an extremely rabid fan base due to it's strong similarities to FromSoft's games (pretty much the only game that does esoteric storytelling/world building and exploration as good as those guys on top of having extremely good boss design) and the art style/2d nature of the game giving it broad appeal. Basically the kind of game that strongly appeals to both souls fans AND annoying theater kids.

It's a challenging game but the art direction and metroidvania gameplay coupled with the low price make it appealing to a wider range of gamers than your average indie metroidvania. It's a tad overrated but absolutely worth playing, one of the better modern metroidvanias.

Good info, thanks.

Literally never dealt with this before on PSN... anything that I'm hyped for is always (as far as I can tell) available for pre-order/pre-load. So I believe this has been true for every single game I've wanted to day 1 since I switched to digital, which was very early in lifecycle of PS4. Alien Isolation was my last physical purchase.

Steam had server issues. Went with Gamepass instead, sorry Team Cherry I'll buy it later.
Playing! Awesome!!!!!!!!! 👌

What sucks is I already have over $100 in my Steam wallet. Just give the money to yourself and add the game to my damn library!

Steam won't let my purchase complete. The discussions forum is full of hundreds of "free game" scam posts.

I've had it up to here with this third world bullshit. Block foreign countries from the internet.

Is there an option of have the map on the hud now? The first game didn't have that from what I recall which was annoying
