I don't know, if the kickstarter is a huge success, I wouldn't give any money and just wait to get it for cheap as I'm not of fan of the series. But if the kickstarter is struggling, I'd probably give a bit of money, even if I don't like the franchise that much, the simple idea of Shenmue 3 become a reality is awesome, this game deserves to be made. I'd probably pay the minimum price to get a copy of the game, so most likely something between 30 and 60€.

Speaking of a Shenmue 3 kickstarter, I think a nice idea to keep the cost down would be to aim for Dreamcast level visuals. I don't think it would be possible to have something that looks like, say, GTA IV/V or Sleeping Dogs would be possible with the crowd funding model, unless the project gets extremely popular. I would look really cool too, what do you guys think?

i don't think the series has the pull some people might believe. Sega needs to at least release an hd collection or something.

I love Shenmue 1 and 2 but it's way too late for a third title in the series. So I wouldn't give anything either.

Of course I'll give my lungs for it, but I'll try to be realistic (in the basis of my current economical situation), so I'll say: $300.

Definitely people have to understand that this doesn't and couldn't represent the whole figures. Not everybody who could donate comes here to post or have an account to do so. This is just to show there is demand and the fanbase is not dead, but it's getting even more sparkly.

Furthermore, those hypothetical money is just to show a portion of the demand. When/if an actual Kickstarter happen, money funded from the fans, could be used to appeal to a big fund partner, who would fund the rest of the cost.

And let's think logically. The cost is not that big as they represent it. Back then Shenmue made groundbreaking inventions, thus the big budget. Nowadays, the tools are ready, in the level that even a single fan could start doing his own Shenmue HD remake... "Fans do what SEGA-don't."

The fanbase doesn't need something groundbreaking again [I don't know about Yu Suzuki, though... (I would be happy if he wanted to, but money)], but a decent conclusion to the story, which has been in cliffhanger for the last decade.

I guess they wouldn't get money from all the people who didn't bother with Shenmue 1 and 2 15 years ago.
Sales were abysmal for such a project.

Shenmue was a niche title with a GTA budget.
