How would you go about fixing Sony if given the opportunity?

Third-party publishers are less inclined to make THEIR OWN GAMES exclusives because there's literally not reason to do. What do Ronin, Stellar Blade, DS2, etc. have in common? They're all games owned by SIE, they're all funded by SIE, they're all produced by SIE. You bringing up Atlus (as an example) suddenly not wanting to make PlayStation exclusives has literally no relation with this matter.
And they don't "mostly" publish the XDEV games, they publish ALL of them, it's THEIR games.

DS2 is not owned by SIE; it's owned by KojiPro. SIE sold them back the rights last year. Stellar Blade is owned by Shift Up; SIE just published and helped with some technical co-development and resources.

SIE publishing XDEV games doesn't mean they're SIE games unless SIE also own the IP rights. And even then, just like Death Stranding, they could simply sell the rights back anytime (despite saying to shareholders they want to amass and retain more high-value gaming IP :/)

They won't learn unless they start losing the generation again like what happened during the PS3. Except Xbox has basically given up so there's no more competition.

Day 1 - bye everyone woke... Cuckman leading the line
Day 2 - bye Hulst and his fat Aloy Fetish
Day 3- every single player studio will make single player games , bungie wil make gaas , buy the helldivers devs and they can make gaas either, and thats it two gaas devs, bluepoint will only make remakes off classic franchises (blood fucking borne)
Day 4 - Pc initiative GaaS only , no more FP single player games releasing

Ps6 will have two skus one basic (ps5 pro power with better cpu ) 599-699 ps6 pro 799-899 with more power.. no more midgen upgrades.

Obs.: shrink dev times to 4 year cicles.. adjust size and scope of games .. downgrade fidelity if you have to.. focus on fun and innovation with good graphics that can be easily achievable

Obs.2 its nice to dream and nothing of this will happen..

Bungie cost Sony $3.6B alone. Add in all the other money dished out on GAAS games and buying up studios and you easily got somewhere around $5B. I dont think it's unreasonable to go from $3.6B to $5B when you add in all the failed studios and GAAS stuff theyve been working on for years across 6-7 outright cancelled games, Concord, and a handful of bought out studios. That could had made a lot of sweet SP games.

The PS6 is going to be a huge challenge and a huge opportunity.
The idea of buying another AMD/AMD x86 PS isn't going to appeal to most people for a really long time.
Sony needs to use the lead provided by DualSense to resume R&D for proprietary PlayStation HW.
The Japanese govt. would likely provide some kind of incentive as a means of bringing back Japanese chip making.
The best selling PS2 is based on a proprietary Japanese CPU/GPU and PS needs to return to that 100% proprietary HW model.
Taking apart a PS console should reveal integrated heat spreaders marked "SONY" as opposed to "AMD".

More diversity of games for a start. Develop a FPS (even if it means going back to Killzone or Resistance), an arcade racer, a RTS etc.

Bring back some old IPs. Syphon Filter, Wipeout, Colony Wars etc.

Invest in AI tools to help speed up development.
I think they've always been chasing new trends and ideas and it surely backfired at them, securing ips matters, it's not a movie industry where you have the freedom to get creative and always try something new.

PSVr2 is a flop because:
-Lack of support from Sony (how is it possible we get an AAA astrobot game but we don't get a VR version?!)
-Price. No device will ever become mainstream selling at 600 euros. More expensive then the console itself...

It's not like people don't like VR it's just it doesn't have the right conditions to become successfull.

What a shame...

Live Service Twisted Metal
Live Service Jet Moto
Live Serive SOCOM
Single player SOCOM
Cancel Gunmy Bears
Less Horizon, finish the Monster Hunter Horizon game, call Horizon 3 the last game.
Make a Sly game externally.

I want Twisted Metal, Motorstorm and Jet Moto games on 3 year cycles for 3 games.

I want SOCOM SP and MP games on 3 year cycles.

I want a platformer per year between Asobi, 2nd party, Insomniac or whomever.

I want a team of 15 devs that work as a independent counsel visiting every SIE published game digging into how Sony can make AAA games within 4 years.

PS5 is one of the best selling consoles ever and isn't slowing down. It's so much more popular, its direct competitor has had to resort to putting their games on the platform because that's where almost all the consoles gamers are.

HOW DO WE FIX THIS MESS!?!?!?

What's your definition of "fix"?

If we're talking from the perspective of a business and doing what's best for the company I would lean away from exclusivity. More money is more money. Still keep your major franchises on PS5 and PC...but non essential franchises and new IP should be considered for shopping out everywhere, even Xbox.

For example, if they are gonna keep Fairgame$...put it on everything. Making a live service game exclusive is just dumb. While maybe day one games on PC may not be essential, you still need to capture the hype window before players move on. So I'll just settle for much shorter time windows for your games to be sent to PC.

Refocus on your strengths, I think the proportion of games should be like 70% single player experiences, maybe 30% live service cash cow kinda games. Eww 30% even sounds weird to me...but if they release a couple of bangers that stick around, you can then lay off the live service products and maybe move it to 80/20.

Get into the handheld space ASAP. If Xbox is gonna have Steam on their handheld, Sony will need to counter in kind.

Give more focus to indie games. They're cheaper to make and have much greater potential for profit if done correctly.

Curb the social agenda permeating your next releases. As much as wokeness is a social agenda, anti-wokeness is also a social agenda. Gotta thread the needle here and be neutral.

1.Disband everything except Sony Music. All projects cancelled. All stock recalled
2.Publish an apology for the societal and cultural blunder that the existence of PlayStation has been and promise to do better
3.Release new Walkman, the Walkman Pro. It only plays vinyl and has two straps so you can carry it as a backpack. Engrained on the case you can read "Vita means life".
4.Sell all IP to THG Nordic, except Naughty Dof IP. Those are gifted to Randy Pitchford personally under the condition that if he doesn't use it or use it more than 2 times they are automatically transfered to Kenji Inafune instead. If he doesn't produce anything or does more than 2 times, they automatically become property of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
5.Reselase a statement announcing that justices has been done
6.File for bankrupcy
7.Don't pay anyone nothing ever

It's the only way. Too many years, too many mistakes.

Not that much actually. I'd just never have premier single player studios like Naughty Dog or even lesser ones like Bend studio wasting their time and resources on a GAAS. If you insist then get a new studio to do it.

So basically I'd greenlight far less GAAS and more single player focused games. If they have a multiplayer component like TLOU1 had that's fine.

Aight, lemme break it down right quick:

PlayStation? That’s the golden goose, so imma treat it like grandma’s grits. Keep the games hot, branch out into mobile or PC significantly, and team up with our movie biz to drop exclusive hits that make folks line up like it’s free wings night. Ya know like, exclusive digital movie & music releases for PS Plus subscribers that works across all Sony services. This way gamers would still purchase the console dispit my increasing our PC presence.

Then there’s the cameras. Our shits fire and all the phone companies are on our dick. I'mma double down on that but If the smartphone line ain’t makin’ noise, imma either pimp it out for camera junkies or cut it loose like fentanyl Felisha and sell licenses to other companies.

On the music and movies side like I said Why not bundle it all? If you pay for PlayStation Plus, why not get some music or early movie sneak peeks? Gotta make folks feel like they’re at a buffet for the price of a Happy Meal. This of course goes in every direction, subscribe to any Sony service grants you access to all Sony services. Increasing the incentive to purchase any Sony device whether that's a TV, a boombox, headphones or the PlayStation.

Sony used to be the king of walkin’ around bumpin’ shit. I'd bring that back by not only focusing on dope design & high-end sound but by making Sony synonymous with everyday life shit like able to tap your ear with a finger to unlocking and lock your vehicle, home and other on the go shit like paying for groceries. That sort of shit.

Lastly, let the creative heads run wild. Mix the teams so my camera, movie, music and PlayStation ninjas can cook up new ideas of how to make Sony one big party.

Now can yawl give me a round of applause for not simply suggesting that I'd NUKE THE SHIT OUT OF PLAYSTATION so gamers would have one less console they'd need to purchase to play certain games? Cause that's what I really want to do.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

Whatever happen to that hybrid AAA VR games or Half-Life Alyx PSVR2 port that fans were getting excited over?

Sony doesn't own a single IP I care about.

The ones I do care about on Playstation are from Capcom (Resident Evil & Street Fighter), Namco (Tekken & Ridge Racer), Square (Final Fantasy & Bushido Blade), Sega (Shenmue & Virtua Fighter) and Konami (Castlevania & Silent Hill).

I guess buying Capcom would be a move for Sony to become indispensable.
Sony's net worth is $125 billion, Capcom's is $9 billion.
