Awesome. I gave my girlfriend a list of parts to get as she was wanting to get a desktop for the first time, but this is the same price and more powerful. Now to get a monitor!

The site is down just as I get home to really try to look at the customization's. Shit sucks , the deal must be dead.

So for a complete PC gaming noob, how good will games look with this rig? I have a home theater (1080p) and sometimes I find console gaming lacking graphically. Many games look great at 60" but blur a bit when blown up to front projection sizes. If I can get 1:1 pixel mapping with better settings I imagine games will look more crisp. The reason I've held off on getting a PC (other than price) is the big power draw. I'm afraid I'll blow something with all the power being used between the components, PC and projector.

Oh man...once you connect a PC to your living room with a real surround sound system, powered subs, etc and of course a big ass display...You will find going back to a dinky monitor and desk is a sin. Currently I use a 55inch Plasma and a pretty bad ass surround system with two 12inch powered subs. You couldn't pay me to play PC games back at desk on a small monitor. 50 inches or larger otherwise no gaming

I think this uses a Z170 board so you can overclock the 6700K.
Even if HP dont allow you to do that in the bios, you can download Intel's XTU app and tweak inside Windows itself.

God I wish I had the funds for this. I've been wanting a PC for years now (last decent PC I had was like 2001) but keep putting off getting the parts to start a build. I have to do it piecemeal because it's easier on my income which has cause me to just keep putting it off but I feel like if I had even two thirds of the money for this I would make it happen

Good news is this deal seems to come around every other month or two. :D

I suspect this is happening because

1) Many computer part prices haven't gone down over time as much as they used to.

2) HP has to clear inventory while they can still make a profit before Nvidia releases their next big GPUs.

The guys on Slickdeals seem a lot more critical of this deal, saying things like the case doesn't ventilate well and that throttles the 980ti to 65% power.

People here seem much more impressed.

Hmm.

Looks like the HP store is back up. Unfortunately, it looks like they depleted their stock of 980ti's. I can't even configure a high end Envy Phoenix 860 with one anymore.

i think i missed the boat on this :(

after the site being down, the only 980ti is this phoenix 860-170vx at 1999 and it wont accept the coupon code.

i'm left with the 750se with the following;

No Secondary HDD
Windows 10 Home 64-bit OS
6th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 processor quad-core [3.4GHz, 8MB Shared Cache]
2TB 7200 RPM SATA 6G Hard Drive
4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 [DL DVI-I, HDMI, DP, DP, DP]
7-in-1 Media Card Reader, 4 USB Ports (Top), Audio [Top 2USB2.0, 2USB3.0]
Microsoft Office Trial
HP Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
Integrated Sound
SuperMulti DVD Burner
HP Wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 1x1 with Bluetooth M.2 NIC (Stone Peak 1)
No Additional Security Software
500W Power supply
HP ENVY 750se Desktop PC
16GB DDR4-2133 DIMM (2x8GB) RAM
Home and Home Office Insert

at 1336 - 30% = 935. But problem is i've already got a 2600k and 970, so this isn't as attractive as the 980ti was. Thoughts?

Damn...no wonder I can't get back into PC-gaming where I live :(...a 980 Ti alone is like $1000 here.

No point given what you already have. When you want to upgrade just get a new cpu/mobo/ram. And whatever you end up replacing your 970 with.

980Ti IIRC is >50% faster than 970, you missed the boat brah' :(

damnit.

what about the 860-170vx. If i can get them to do the 30% off of 1999, is this a good enough deal?

I have one on order so I hope it works properly I just cant see a big company like HP putting out products with 1 year warranties and they not working properly for the most part

yes. skylake alone is nearly $389 on newegg and the cheapest 980ti is $629.

Still dunno wtf is going on with my order. Gotta love whrn credit fraud protection prevents you ftom actually buying something... Maybe its a sign i dont need any more debt.

Hmm.

No one here has actually received and used the thing.

Slickdeals people are pretty smart, if they say it overheats and throttles they are probably right. 980 Ti's put out a shitton of heat so I can see that tiny plastic case being a problem.

At this price it hardly matters, you can buy a case for $50 at Newegg and strip the components out and build it into a better case if you run into overheating and throttling.

Suggestions for a case?

Id just leave the case open if that were the... Case.
That is not a good solution. It fucks up the airflow and exposes everything to more dust. Regardless, the 980Ti is probably not going to run at "65%" because of a cheap case.

I also wouldn't rely on pulling everything out and putting it in another box, as HP probably use a ton of proprietary mounts and screws and it could be a nightmare.

Ordering this shit has been a major pain in the ass. Ive pretty much given up on the extra 8% back with ebates, which sucks because thats an extra $100 i can save. I finally have an account number and i know my credit line is 2400 but every time i try to order online it makes me reapply instead of just asking for the account number. When i call and try to order it they still ask for my social and income like they are running my credit again. I didnt think anyone could be worse than dell but if this is how they gandle orders i cant imagine how future custom service issues might be resolved.

Yeah I'm over this shit, HP really needs to get their shit together, their customer service is awful, I've never seen a company have so much trouble taking my money. Now the 980ti is gone so I opened a line of credit for nothing, should have just waited for the next gen GeForce cards and upgraded my current PC.

A little concerned though - Oculus recommends having at least 3 3.0 USB ports. This model only has 2 3.0 USB ports. Should I be backing out?

It's still in my cart with the discount, I feel like I should pull the trigger

do it.

just got off the phone with them and they are just insisting that they are out of stock of the 980ti, and when I point out it's in the 860-170vx so just apply the 30% discount to that they reply that model "isnt compatible" with that discount. Despite the discount working just fine of every other 860.

sigh. Shoulda ordered it ASAP. Oh well.

People on reddit say it has 4. 2 on the front, 2 at the back.

edit: this guy got the same model the last time a deal went up: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsa..._hp_envy_750se_desktop_i76700_2tb_hdd/czi85dy

Just checked,

TOP: 2-USB 3.0, 2-USB 2.0

REAR: 2-USB 3.0, 4-USB 2.0

Unless I'm stupid and the "blue" USB ports (vs normal black 2.0) aren't actually USB 3.0 ports. For sure there are 4 total blue USB ports (and 6 black USB ports).
