A good M2 terrabyte drive is less than 50 bucks, much less for a company buying them in the 100 thousands....

Meanwhile the drive also costs them next to nothing and the consumer has to pay close to a hundred bucks for it......,

It's called making money.
And relativizing as if the company was your friend like the op does is called being stupid.

I'm not complaining about the extra storage. I'm not sure it was necessary, but it's good that it's there. Given the disc drive situation I would have preferred 1 TB and a disc drive over 2 TB and no disc drive considering how easy it is to buy an SSD as compared to the disc drive. I don't really play many games from disc, but I do watch a lot of movies on disc. For now I just took the drive from my slim to put in the Pro and I'll buy another one later.

What uproar? Seems to be selling just fine.
Have you seen the reactions after the reveal of the PS5 Pro including the price? The price was way above what everyone expected and here, on youtube or whereever people were not happy. Yeah, in the US the price is not that high, but in some other regions it is quite insane. While yes, it probably still sells decent, it would sell better with a price closer to the expected range.
Therefore it was IMHO a stupid decision by Playstation to increase the cost by having a 2TB storage instead of just keeping it at 1TB and making the box cheaper. Or use the then free budget to include the disc drive which probably costs $20 or less to manufacture. This was one of the few things they had price control over...

For the people who want a Pro, who think the price is fine and the upgrades are fine...that's fine for them. Everyone else isn't interested. There really isn't a need to keep trying to sell people on it or convince people about it, other than shilling, validation, or buyer's remorse.

That works both ways. There isn't a need for people to keep trying to convince others it isn't worth the money either. If they are not interested then shouldn't they discuss things they are interested in?

Does anyone else just get a little... :messenger_grimmacing_ whenever someone says "HDD" when they're talking about SSDs... They're literally not the same thing. That's like saying the PS5 Pro has a 2tb floppy disc for all that storage.

Philosophical semantics for the sake of versus the actual analysis of a subject or situation. And believe you me, I am one for philosophy and semantics, but this isn't the subject matter for it. What is there to discuss in a brand new topic specifically about the inclusion of an SSD to justify or correlate the price of the PS5 Pro that cannot already be discussed in who-knows-how-many-topics we already have about the PS5 Pro? It reeks of justification and defense of something that doesn't need justification or defense in its own new topic. I am clearly no authority here and that is just my worthless and meaningless opinion.

The 2TB SSD wasn't worthy of its own thread. Definitely agree.

The 670GB of free space was fine until I started saving my match videos.
1.89TB of free space is a nice addition.

But with that being said, I think they should've sold 2 versions of the PS5 Pro.

$649 - Digital
$699 - Disc version

Both with 1TB versions.

I'd much rather the 1.2TB increase and the option to buy a disc drive then visa Versa.

Same, no contest.

I would have bought a ps5 digital at launch if I could have found one. I've never used the disc drive on my PS5 for 4 years. Zero interest in physical games.

I already had a 2TB drive, but now I have 4TB of storage instead of 2.825.

I do feel bad for people who stick with the regular PS5 who will get larger game sizes as a result of the Pro though. I think it would have been nice to be able to opt out of those updates, but I can see why that would be difficult.

Even I had to look that up

It will be a sad day if I am ever forced to go all digital and not be able to pop in an old disc and play some of my all time favs

The disc drive selling out says a lot of people buying the pro feel the same way I'm inclined to believe that this was a tactic

I'm inclined to believe that they were testing the market to see how many would be fine without a disc drive come next gen. It's also the same with the pricing.

The Pro was a Guinea Pig for tests.

I think the console is expensive, but the components in there are also expensive so you have to pay it since Sony don't want to subsidise the cost anymore.
The SSD, RDNA 4 GPU and wifi 7 all expensive components at the moment.
Its a shame consoles don't drop in price anymore as the pro could become the standard PS5 model if the price reduced overtime.

Lol yeah, having 20 games installed at once instead of 10 was the smarter move over a price reduction, an included disc reader or a better cpu alright :lollipop_squinting: :lollipop_squinting:

People would have preferred if Sony included the disc drive on the pro for the £699, most people who went for the pro would have already had an M2 drive in their PS5 that they switched.

Because it’s not sexy & doesn’t make the games look or play any better. Having said that, I love having the extras space.
