Man, still on the fence about this...I would hate for it to turn gaming-obsolete in less than a year like my gaming laptop did (780M)

The price is good though.

That's not going to happen as unlike most laptops, the computer is fully upgradeable and really the only thing that will need to be upgraded should there be a major shift in gaming minimum standards is the GPU. Everything else is mature technology that doesn't radically evolve every 2-3 years.

As mentioned multiple times already, this has the best video card and CPU at the moment. It this turns "gaming-obsolete" in less the a year, 99% of pc gamers will stop gaming next year and find another hobby.

Nah man. Didn't you hear our yearly upgrades cost thousands?

Thousands I tell you.

Amazing deal. I just built this PC (albeit with better RAM, a SSD, better PSU, a nicer case...) and it's fucking awesome.

Yeah, I heard nVIDIA and AMD are colluding with each other to release new GPU architectures every other week as a scheme to bankrupt PC gamers.

It's disgusting.

Be forewarned, anyone who wants to get into PC gaming. It is an extremely expensive hobby and will potentially cost you more than an addiction to gambling.

The thrill of staying on top of the tech ladder, the dopamine rush with each purchase of a xx80ti, and the despair that comes with not being able to Ultra, 4k, 144 fps, 16xMSAA games will destroy you financially.

Gave it one last try using my Paypal Credit line even though I only had 750 on it and it went through I'm pretty hype even though its not coming till march lol

Does anybody know if Battlenet games transfer between Mac and PC?

Basically if I log onto Battlenet on PC will the games I have for my Mac (StarCraft 2, Diablo 3) be there to download?

Gewwwww so excited to finally have a good PC!

Yes, so far as I understand, the client only cares if you own the game.

It'll prbably break in 6 months knowing HP

Good thing there is a 1 year warranty included I guess.

Went ahead and bought it. Definitely the most money I've ever spent all at once. I figured ~$50 for a 256gb SSd was worth it for the time being, thinking I'll just upgrade it down the road. Now to find a killer deal on a monitor...
and spend $650 more on an Oculus Rift

He's actually playing the long game.

After a few times his wife won't want flowers ever again, thus, over 30+ years, he'll save thousands of dollars.

It's genius.
Lol.

I warned my wife about the potential stupid purchased before doing it. The flowers were a joke in order to let her know that I actually pulled the trigger. I felt like sending the flowers and making her laugh was better than calling up and saying, yeah I did that. It worked, LOL.

Lol, yup I'm learning this. Just recently got into PC gaming with the expectations of spending around 1200$ cdn . By the end of it, cuz I kept up grading the gpu and now I'm at 2 980ti SLI with 32gb ram, and I'm pushing about 3000$Cdn. Ended up being more then double my original plan. Lol. Don't get me wrong, I love the PC that was built, but still yes it does get expensive, and I've literally just entered into the PC world a couple months ago.

Ohhh tempted. Only $975.35 here in Japan.

Will this be enough to drive VR though?

We need a Canadian flag photoshopped behind a rainy window. I mean, in my head I should have known that we wouldn't be allowed such a deal? But my heart didn't want to believe it. :(
Tell me about it. I just looked up something to make me more sad.. for all the bitching and moaning I did about the GTX 970 scandal, I'm still really glad I purchased one 1 1/2yrs ago. When I look up Newegg.ca now, the cheapest one shipped is $80 more than what I paid. :S

I don't ever recommend these kind of prebuilt if you're a gamer. They use cheap OEM parts for the PSU, fans, memory, etc, not to mention the case is always badly ventilated.

Lots of us are gamers and have purchased prebuilts. While it's possible to build your own and get higher quality parts and even save a little money, for many of us, a prebuilt is just fine. Frankly, I think you would be hard pressed to beat some of the prices HP has had on their higher end desktop systems between last Christmas and this most recent sale, especially when you factor in the build time.

Does HP charge upon order or when it ships in March?

They charge as soon as you submit the order.

I couldn't pass this up. Bought mine today, HP says it will ship on March 18. The wait isn't so bad for me, since I broke my wrist last week, and the computer should arrive right about when I get my cast off :)

Someone talk me out of this. Told myself this morning I'd order it if it was still live after I got home from work, and here I am.

I don't plan to OC out of the gate, but I'd like the ability to down the line. I'd also like to keep temps as low as possible, so the default case and the 980Ti being the Reference version aren't ideal. Plus the new architecture is coming...

...but I haven't had a good gaming computer in like 10+ years

Are you me?

I actually just got to work, and of course, my first destination is GAF...And this is what I see.... sigh. If I keep looking at this.....

The "shipping in March" part has completely chilled my edge. I'm gonna pass.

Hell of a deal though. I just have this delusional idea that Nvidia and AMD will drop something boner worthy by then.

Do itttt! I sincerely doubt you'll see a better deal than this for some time. The CPU & graphics card in this are pretty much the best on the market. You'll be happy with this rig for many years.

The savings are cheaper than building it yourself even in the US. Anyone literally can buy this and swap out the substandard parts and break even in the US or still be ahead outside of the country.

This is insanely cheap. I'm almost considering buying it just to strip out the GPU/CPU and then sell all the parts alongside my 980 and i5-4690k.

So what is the minimal requirement if I decide I want to try the rift?

GTX 970 is a good entry point.

I can imagine the amount of GPU horsepower we need to explode in the next 5 years as the novelty of VR wears off and we begin to want more complex visuals driven at 90 Hz + 8k/eye.

How easy would it be to strip out the GPU and CPU in a case like that?

It should be very easy, shouldn't be any different from other cases. Not sure what mobo or heatsink it is but it's probably stock cooler so you can remove that easily turning each of the 4 push pins to release it.

GPU is just a screw and pushing a tab at the end of the slot on the MB to release it.

I just built my pc for a similar or a bit higher price but some weaker parts. I5 6600k, msi gtx 970, 16gb ram, coolmaster 212, coolmaster hafx case, and like a $200 gigabyte mb lol.

This is a killer deal. Just strip the gpu, cpu, ram, hdd and xfwr that to a hafx case and a good mb

Just jumped on this. Incredible price. And to think I was about to get the Rift-pre-order reduced ASUS PC deal ($1700 out of the gate).

This was a clean 1250 including tax!

Wait, this thing's mobo only has one PCI-e port right? So if I wanted to stream or capture video I'd have to use an external device, huh

Tempted - $1231 for my configuration. I was speccing out a 4790K build for my son at around $8xx dollars using my old GTX 760 as the GPU. The 980ti + 6700K is obviously superior but it's also $300 more dollars and lacks the SSD. Hmm decisions decisions.
