You can spend anywhere from $500-$1300, depending on what features you want and the size.

Not really. Cloning hard drives isn't a big deal these days. and no, you can't hurt the computer by changing drives.

It'll be about a month to ship and you'll have 30 days to return it after that.
I can't thank you for enough for the quick, informative response! I'll go ahead and pull the trigger now and do some heavy research in the next few days.

I seriously know nothing about PCs, I have a gaming laptop right now. I'm getting mixed signals right now... I was thinking about a 2k budget for Oculus Rift and a PC. What is the ballpark going price for a monitor that can fully take advantage of these specs? And when I buy an SSD, will I run a risk of fucking shit up (both software and the physical PC itself) if I have absolutely no prior experience in building PCs? I'm so close to pulling the trigger but I'm so fuckin clueless, haha

EDIT: a better question may be how long would I have to research my purchase and still be able to cancel? Haha

I'll put it this way: This rig has essentially the best CPU and graphics card on the market today. It's a beast of a machine.

You'd probably want a monitor with 1440P resolution for this set up. Those will run you anywhere from ~$200 to ~$1000 depending on the quality of the screen, whether you'd want G-SYNC, etc..

Point is, if you're looking into getting a gaming rig within the next 6 months, it's not likely you'll find a deal better than this.

Looking for meaning in GAF
So I shipped flowers to my wife at work today to help blow the new purchase over; here's to hoping the strategy works, LOL.
Lol. If you do this too many times, won't your wife eventually learn that getting flowers from you is a sign that she's about to get news that she won't like?

He's actually playing the long game.

After a few times his wife won't want flowers ever again, thus, over 30+ years, he'll save thousands of dollars.

It's genius.

I have one final question for the PC crowd. The sound card is something no one has really mentioned here. If I get this tower it will most likely live in my home theater. It has a 5.2.1 Atmos setup. Do I need any sort of special audio card that's going to allow me to run games in different surround modes?

It's in my cart and it is a beast.

I like PC gaming, but I'm so into my Xbox One and PS4, I'm not sure I can justify it. I have a nice (non-gaming) laptop so this would be dedicated to gaming.

Must resist?

I couldn't. Total console gamer here. Couldn't resist. Gonna get rid of my XBOX cuz all the exclusives are probably coming to PC. And this beast will play them better than it ever could. Keeping my PS4.

The 980ti is probably nvidia branded because they have oem deals with Dell and HP. Here's what the inside of one of these looks like for anyone curious

Not sure if this is exactly what this new deal will look like but it gives you an idea of what to expect.

Are you planning to connect the PC to your TV? If so, just run HDMI through your receiver like you would a console.

If you just want to take advantage of the home theater audio but plan on using a monitor, running optical to the home theater makes sense.

Is the guy in the background doing a butt check?

Killer deal BTW

depending on what hardware you are running you can also use a USB audio interface, that requires a bit more tech knowhow.

As a semi-regular participant in the 'I Need A PC Thread' I think I can definitely recommend this PC.

Usually I would suggest building your own if for no other reason than the majority of the time you are getting either:

  • Lower quality parts for same price
    or
  • Same-ish quality parts for a significantly higher price

This does not appear to be the case here at all. Yes, you are getting a non-K CPU so you can't overclock, and almost certainly a non-fancy proprietary/reference HP motherboard and other parts. And by the photo above you are getting a reference GPU as well without any of the fancier cooling options to deal with the factory overclock. However, if you are interested in an overclock and squeezing every last bit of performance out of your hardware, pre-built is not for you anyways.

If you want a really good PC that just "works", I would hop on this deal without question.

Coupon didn't work with the Pheonix... ordered the Envy witht he upgraded CPU, power supply and 980ti for $1,207 plus tax. Signed up for their preferred card (12 months no interest gets me every time) and it looks like I got approved but they never told me for how much and my order won't fully process... hmm, don't start making me have second thoughts HP!

Anybody know how long this will run for I dont get paid until the 25th and I only have a grand in my account lol . They wont let me use multiple types of payment smh

Use a credit card? The configuration with the 980ti looks like it won't ship until mid-March. I assume they will not charge your CC before then, just send an authorization to it.

Here are 4 different models, with their max customizable GPU and CPU, as well as OS, PCI and USB info. Unfortunately I don't think the coupon works for all of them.

850qe - Windows 10, i7 4790K, GTX 970, 3 PCIe x1; 1 PCIe x16, 4x USB 3.0, 4x USB 2.0, (DDR3 RAM only)
http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/sales...p-pc-n0x15av-aba-1?jumpid=Desktops_Finder_PDP

850se (code didn't work for me) - Windows 7, i7 5960X, GTX 980, 2 PCI-e x16 (Gen3); 1 PCI-e x1 (Gen2), 2x M.2, 6x USB 3.0, 4x USB 2.0 (no SSD HDD options in the customizer)
http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/sales...p-pc-m0k57av-aba-1?jumpid=Desktops_Finder_PDP

860se - Windows 10, i7 5960X, GTX 970, 1 mini PCIe x1; 1 mini PCIe x0.5, 6x USB 3.0, 4x USB 2.0 (is it a mini GPU?)
http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/sales...p-pc-n0x16av-aba-1?jumpid=Desktops_Finder_PDP

860st - Windows 10, i7 6700K, GTX 980ti, 1 mini PCIe x1; 2 PCIe x16, 4x USB 3.0, 6x USB 2.0
http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/deskt...ktop-n3g98av-aba-1?jumpid=Desktops_Finder_PDP

One thing really sticks out to me- the 860se's mini PCIe slots. Is that including the slot for the GPU, and does that impact performance and limit which GPU I could install?

The 850se only comes with Windows 7, but the manual upgrade to Windows 10 should be a breeze?

Why, oh why must this deal be US only? Looking to upgrade to a new PC and this would be right up my alley. US always gets the best deals on everything gaming-related, it sucks.

Why doesn't it work with the Envy Phoenix?

It works on the 860st Envy Phoenix if you configure yourself (it didn't work for me on the pre-configured VR ready versions), but the 30% is off MSRP, not the already discounted price, so you'll only save another $100-$150 depending on the configuration because they are already running a "President's Day Sale" on the 860st that takes $600 off the base model.

Hmmm, since this comes with a GTX 980Ti, does this mean we also get The Division for free? If so, add another $60 in savings.

Still getting the order cannot be complete at this time try again later do I have to just keep trying cause it does say it wont ship until march 18th.

Bought one a few months ago when they were doing the same deal but with a 980. It's been perfect so far and it saved me all the headache I had last time I tried building my own PC.

How's the bloatware from HP? My old one had so much pre-installed crap that I swore to never buy another one again.

980ti is among the best video cards. So it will handle high/ultra on almost any game at 1080p.

Just keep in mind that some games like The Witcher 3 and GTA V cannot be maxed out yet no matter what rig you have. Turning down some "performance killer" settings and you'll be okay.

I've played TW3 "maxed out" in 2560x1600 on a 980TiG1. You are right though, "maxed out" is a pointless term. This rig will run all multiplatform games better than XBO or PS4 -- this is pretty much guaranteed.

Welp looks like I will be waiting until this deal comes around again or hopefully if it sticks around a couple more day . I cant see me paying more than 1200 for a PC like this knowing that deals like this are out here

You dont even need a 980Ti, a 970 would do that just fine.

Man, still on the fence about this...I would hate for it to turn gaming-obsolete in less than a year like my gaming laptop did (780M)

The price is good though.
