Is this normal. Sometimes when I start steamvr vive screens just show gray for a moment and then go black. Restarting steamvr fixes it but it's kind of annoying,

So, I'm waiting mine to arrives (probably by the end of May/early june now) but I'd like to know what exactly VorpX is.

I did read a bit, and from what I know, it adds 3D stereoscopic support to several games, tailored for the Vive/Rift platform. I do have a 3D Vision 2 complete kit at home (3 VG278HE, IR Receiver and glasses), but due to eyesight problem (slight strabismus), the effect doesn't work that good. I can see videogames/movies in 3D, but probably not how it's supposed to.

So, my question is: Is VorpX 3D Stereo different in any way than Nvidia 3D Vision or is it just as same, only different by aiming for Vive/Rift platform. Is there a way to try that piece of software for just a bit? 30€/$ is not that expensive (I just bought a Vive after all, if it was, I would have an affair with my bank agent), but to buy a software that I won't use, I could do without.
___

Different question: How does Virtual Desktop handles 21:9 monitor (virtually I mean), is it even possible? Like setting up your room, and add a 21:9 resolution monitor in it.

Loving my Vive, soo exciting trying new experiences.

Holoball was a blast out of the blue, simple yet addictive and works up a sweat on the harder difficulty settings.

Holopoint is so physical, done my knee in last night with all of the ducking and diving. One to do in gym wear after you've warmed up.

Just relieved my GTX 780 can still do the business, unlike my knees.

So can you fly in Minecrift creative mode? If so, how do you navigate with the controllers?

I haven't played creative, but in survival you can teleport and use roomscale (walk around yourself). Vive controllers work nicely, you can even use it as a tool yourself (actually mine / log wood etc. using your hands).

You can also toggle analog controls if you can stand traditional locomotion.

Does Revive work with The Climb? If so - I really recommend giving it a try. Price is steep, but currently my favourite VR experience. Incredibly immersive, looks amazing, feels like a very polished package and while the controls seem like they'd be counterintuitive compared to motion controls, picking where you grip just by looking feels really natural.

When it shows gray its because the headset has lost tracking with the base stations or something else is preventing the headset from tracking. You can mimic this by covering some of the photo diodes on the headset with your hands.

Edit: If you mean the momentary gray screens you get during boot then yes that is absolutely normal when loading SteamVR.

My first impression is how unimpressive and unimmersive it was. And how you all lied. It wasn't a magical moment. It's blurry. And it isn't how I'm using it. I researched how to do it properly. Maybe it's my gpu? Does the Vive adjust automatically? I have a 4GB 770 until Pascal.

Anyway, I played a few things. Most impressive was the Lab bow. Awesome! Finally I started having fun and stopped being disappointed. I was immersed more.

I was most looking forward to theBlu and it wasn't as immersive as I'd hoped. It also crashes on every scene but the whale. Again, probably due to my gpu.

Still happy. $800 though got damn

yes it always is gray at the start but why it goes black and stays black until I restart steamvr is mystery.

Damn, shouldn't be blurry. I was all sorts of immersed when I demoed it and wasn't blurry at all. I am a, what would you call it, graphic snob and I didn't even noticed the SDE when I put it on because of how immersed I was. The Blu felt real to my mind and I am the type that usually goes all logical but I totally forgot that I was in a gamestop with a headset on. Weird how the mind works sometimes.

Mhhh but they werent impressed by any VR game....or? ;)

Just need a good cockpit game for my Vive.

They liked Hover Junkers, Job Simulator....a bunch of things really. They pretty much hated all the shovelware indie titles.

From the stream it looked really basic...If you want cockpit games there's DCS, which is F2P and Elite.

Wonder why it's blurry...You are under the minimum specs tho.

When I get the Vive I'm gonna be limited to Vorpx 10 year old titles until Pascal hits. My poor R9 270 :(

Speaking of DCS, has anyone with Vive got it to run properly? I have 4790K + 980ti and it drops frames all the time, even on lowest settings.

I'm wondering if there's something wrong or if the game just isn't that optimized for OpenVR, I'd imagine Rift users with ATW having a better time with it.

Is isn't normal that its blurry? It seems like mine is always blurry no matter how I adjust it, only the very exact center isn't blurry if you are looking at close up objects.

This might sound like a complaint but right when I start playing I forget about everything cause its so damn fun. I'm a glasses wearer by the way so maybe that is affecting it if my glasses shift around inside?

Valve is not exactly poor - I don't get they couldn't fund some of those games and sell them very cheaply so that VR is not associated with cashgrab.
Or at least forgo commission temporarily, so that every VR game is automatically 30% cheaper.

Valve and HTC are funding games. The reason the experiences are so thin is because people have only had dev kits for a year and a half at most. There's probably lots of financial stuff happening that we aren't privy to.

Yes and yes. Technically it is steamvr's unity plugin which adjusts automatically, so non-unity games don't do it. You have a GPU a full generation below the minimum spec, of course it isn't going to run great.

It looks clear when it's centered, like Plumpman. I find it hard to believe that's due to headset positioning. But maybe?

The sweet spot isn't that big, that's true. Pretty disappointing TBH.

The most I'm waiting from gen 2 is better lenses, they're the biggest immersion killer for me right now. Because looking around you need to move your head, using your eyes is pointless especially if you need to read text anywhere else than the middle.

Totally agree. I adjust the headset a lot not because the HMD feels uncomfortable, but because I'm constantly trying to make sure I'm at the sweet spot for the lenses.

Agree about lenses. It's a huge issue on both headsets and feels like it went under-the-radar prior to release. On the Rift especially, the light artifacts constantly look like smudges even on relatively light scenes.

Yeah I guess what I meant is the "clear" sweet spot isn't that big, its definitely not "smudged" or anything. Its just the resolution in combination with the blurriness on the sides gets me sometimes.

So can a stock AMD 7970 handle anything with the Vive? Mine is coming tomorrow but I'm waiting for the June graphics cards before upgrading.

Wireless is way more important to me. 4K 90 fps gaming isn't practical anytime soon. I don't think the headset makers are going to hav a next gen headset that only works with $1000s of worth of gpus as their target. 1440p is the next target. Anything else is not realistic actually.

Are you sure you aren't referring to Final Approach?

Yep, it was definitely Toy Plane Heroes. They hated almost everything about it. The way it introduces the controls, the gimmick of taking crap off your plane before takeoff, the uninspired level design....There were pretty much no positives with their impressions of the game.

As a glasses wearer, I'm used to moving my head more than my eyes (relative to a person with normal vision), so at least that aspect of VR will be less distracting for me. Finally something positive from wearing glasses for decades! lol

I must have missed it. Thanks!

Is there a way to actually have Win10 Cortana turn on the Vive with the command "Cortana activate holodeck"

Cause putting on the Vive then saying that to turn it on would be pretty neato

My glasses don't have the same problem though, picture is crystal clear until I reach the frame, there's no thing called sweet spot with them :p

I expect reviews by morning!!!

Movement is horrible apparently. No teleport and makes the vive controllers work like analog.

Have you tried without your glasses? If your correction is low enough you may not need them with the lenses.

Out for delivery. For some reason I'm not super excited. It's probably because I have 2 final projects due next week that'll have to be working on day and night until then.

ok so if I'll have my vive in the next 3 days, what games should I get immediately

Light Repair Team #4
Audioshield
theBlu - This is a good "demo" experience
Space Pirate Trainer
Hover Junkers

Make sure to download The Lab and Budget Cuts Demo. Holopoint, Vanishing Realms, Blarp, Holoball and Waterbears also get mentioned a lot.

awesome, only ones that were definite for me were Audioshield and Space Pirate trainers + lab and budget cuts. So I'll be looking at the blu, light repair, and hover junkers

For the guys saying it's blurry, I had some of that the first few days. But after tightening the straps a bit and shifting the headset a bit upvards (it sits almost at the top of my cheeks), I found it to be a lot better. It is of course still blurry at the outer diameter, but I was pretty impressed with how much better it looked when doing some adjustments.

It's still a hassle to look down at anything though. It will shift to much weight downwards and any text will be blurry unless I hold the headset with my hand. It is mostly a problem in Vanishing Realms where the UI sits way to low.

All that being said, most games make me forget about the quality of the display the instant the action starts. Sweet spot when correctly adjusted should definitely be big enough that you don't constantly think about it.

I tried Fatal Frame 4 with DolphinVR and noped the fuck out of there pretty quick, lol.

The funny thing is that DolphinVR works like VorpX should work, it doesn't emulate the gamepad/mouse but works like Lucky's Tale, Chronos etc. in 3rd person, it's an independent camera so you can look around without it rotating around the character stupidly.
