HTC Vive Launch Thread -- Computer, activate holodeck

After all my hesitation and doubt about Hover Junkers because I'm just not into competitive gaming, especially shooters, after about 20 minutes of playing it I am completely sold on how awesome it is. I will now be joining the masses of preaching about what a good game it is and worth the money, even with what little content there currently is.

Yup I played it through twice yesterday cuz it's so damn cool. It and xortex need to be full fledged games.

If you liked longbow try Holopoint. I know it looks simple. I looked at the screen shots and had reservations due to that but man... You will forget about all of that when the blocks start spawning and the ghost of Legolas starts possessing your body.

Yep, great game. I was hesitant on that one too, but it's a lot of fun to just jump in there and play a game or two in between something else. I was getting freaked out when the Samurai's first started appearing.

What are good pods to mount the sensors on? I don't want to drill any holes on the walls of have stuff permenant. Looking for something I can mount the sensors that on and then easily put away when I done.

I ordered these and these.

Honestly haven't tried them out yet but I'll let you guys know either tonight or tomorrow sometime. Seemed like the most inexpensive solution.

I have these joby clamps. One is mounted to my booksheflf, the other one is mounted to my door (which I never close).

Blarp received a lot of good reviews from GAF and for 2.99 its not a bad title. I just think you all over hyped the game, its not that cool.
If by "a lot of good reviews" and "you all," you mean 7 or 8 out of 500 posters.
And if by "overhyped," you mean that one or two of those posters said it was their favorite.
And if by "it's not that cool," you mean your opinion matters more.

Running into what feels like stuttering in audiophile, only in the slower sections of the songs where the balls freeze for a sec then jump forward.

My setup:
4k TV main screen + monitor
I7_4790k
980Ti
16Gb ram
SSD
Windows 10 and steam beta

So far this is the only game to do this

This has probably been one of the few times where sweating is fun, the game is alot of fun.

Edit: if the max rooms are size is 5x5 meters, it means the max distance between lighthouses should be 7 meters. So why does it give me a warning that I exceeded the max distance of 5meters between lighthouses, it's 6.5m right now and I had 0 tracking issues so far.

Got' damn. I got a new monitor that uses Displayport instead of HDMI. Plugging the Vive in via HDMI still doesnt work. I also tried HDMI to miniDP adapter. This is frustrating as hell.

It's on purpose though it doesn't look totally smooth when it slows which would make that clearer.

I wasn't too sure about dropping that kind of money on one game since I knew that I had a limited amount left to spend on games after buying the Vive, but I'm so glad that I did.

It's so much fun that I find myself loading it up at least once every time I use my Vive.

Have you tried Unseen Diplomacy?

how solid is revive now? curious about trying Chronos, The Climb or Blaze Rush (just requested a refund from steam as the devs don't seem to intend ever adding official support for Oculus Rift or Vive in the steam version..)

I thought Blaze Rush gave Home keys free if you own Steam version? I know I got one, they have a website for it.

only if you bought it before March 28th.. I bought mine on 2nd April. No idea why they set a date when almost nobody actually had a VR headset, I guess that was when you could have chosen to buy it from the oculus store.

I just got mine set up and I am just blown away

This is the coolest fucking thing. The desktop res sucks but I don't care because this is just amazing

I forgot all the technical aspects that I read as soon as I got in.

Audioshield legit made me step back because I felt some shit was too close for comfort and needed to get a bit more distance.

Job simulator is fucking cool too

This is fun

Yup

That was my first genuine VR scare, finding a soldier inches in front of me with a sword raised. "Oh look now they're soldiers I didn't know about that, that's cute, should be fun. Better check behind me... OH GOD"

Optifine is included in the Vive version but it's of course an old version for 1.7.10 so ShadersModCore is not integrated. In order to get this going you need to get Forge (download here). Then make sure you install the Vive-mod with Forge support checked. Then download the ShadersModCore and whatever shader you want as usual.

If you get the "Stitching texture atlas" error, add -Dfml.skipFirstTextureLoad=false to your JVM arguments in your Minecraft Vive profile. Have fun!

Great info, now I can get my shader fix :)

I have a couple of questions if someone could help me with them i'd highly appreciate it.

1. I'm trying to turn off reprojection, now i read i do this from the performance tab for steam vr but i'm struggling to find it. Can someone enlighten me please?

2. I'm having a black flickering issue with the lab, just on portions of the screen occasionally. Is this a known issue?

1. On the small SteamVR window, click on the title bar to bring op a menu. Choose settings, and go to the performance tab. At the very bottom there is an option "Allow reprojection" that you can uncheck.

2. It shouldn't be like that. It could be performance related. Maybe it tries to reproject a position that has not yet rendered or something? Edit: Maybe the camera is causing some tracking issues. Try to turn the rate down to 45fps or something in the same Steam menu.

Anyone know where you can get more of the Vive wide or narrow face sponges? Dare I say it, some of these sessions on Holopoint and Holoball can get a bit sweaty, so if I'm demoing, it would be great to have a few spare to change over.

arse, Steam rejected my refund for Blaze Rush. Oh well, not buying it twice just for VR, and its shitty of the dev to not patch the steam version.

hmmm...I need another set of cables and another breakout box so I can easily swap between computers. I want to use my office computer for seated experiences.

After having my Vive for a few days, I finally gave in to my VR porn curiosity. I now have a good approximation of what it might be like to shag a 20 foot tall lady.

Not an issue really, its a fit problem for me, but most people (Like my wife) are good with the default set up. I just need a tad thinner padding to get in my "Sweet Spot". The sweet spot is the perfect position for your eyes where everything becomes clear.

The resolution isn't perfect though, but that is a limitation of all current optics.
Got you, thanks.

So finally got it set up last night.

Drilled the lighthouses in, works perfectly.

VR is absolutely incredible. The resolution is definitely "gen 1" feel, as is the field of view. But it still works fantastically.

theBlu is mind blowing, especially the 3rd sequence. I REALLY hope they do more.

Robot Repair was great, especially laying on the floor to look up under. The Lab in general is amazing, haven't seen it all yet.

Holopoint is a good workout and makes you feel like a badass practicing to save humanity from the machines.

Tilt brush is insane. And beautiful.

Audio shield is mesmerizing, I can see myself using it as a post shift stress reliever a lot.

More impressions to come, but I feel like I'm wasting time posting here when I could be getting some more in before work.

The future is here folks. We're living it. Amazing.

Youtube has a lot of 360 video content. You can view using virtual desktop's player or SBS option.

Also, there are some adult sites with SBS material as well but this is a family friendly site so don't do any Google searches.
SBS option? without googling since I'm at work...I'm not familiar with it. SBS option part of virtual desktop? how does it work. I have used the virtual desktop player with a downloaded 360 video

Whooo! It's here!

Now back in to work for another two hours and then come home and move a whole bunch of stuff to make a playable area.

SBS = Side By Side. There are a lot of 3D and VR compatible ontent on youtube and "other" websites that will render the same image side by side, and when combined give it a 3D or stereoscopic quality.

To view this content you'll need to run the video in full screen then select "on screen" or "on screen + anamorphic" under SBS options. Doing so will force the software to render each image to the appropriate eye. Next time you load up Virtual Desktop look on the main menu and you'll see the SBS options.

I'm in the same boat, was extremely hesitant. Completely melted away once I played the game. I jumped into a 2 player junker with my buddy and it was one of the best gaming experiences of recent memory.

Will those 3m strips hold the lighthouses on the wall?

Most of my picture frames, sound bars and artwork in my house are hung with those. The ones I have holding the lighthouses hold 12 pounds. I have NEVER had one come off the wall. Ever. They are legit and I'm not sure what people are using that claim "vibrations" cause them to come loose.

I fixed it!!!! I think it was a combination of two things. First I got a monitor that supports Displayport. Then, I used a DVI to HDMI adapter. That did it.

Heads up - Support said they are seeing several of "Black screen" issues with EVGA cards.

My first taste of VR. Its... FUCKING INCREDIBLE

I'm sure they have considering EVGA is one of the most popular Nvidia options, and by extension is one of the most popular options for cards period. Assuming this is HTC support, unless they can point to an individual model with issues, I'll take any of their claims with a few grains of salt.

See the thing for me is that I can't get Forge to install properly. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

lucky's tale is pretty nice. The camera makes me feel a little woozy, but I love the solidity of the characters (especially lucky). I think the underground mini-sections are probably nicer than the main areas though - I'd love to see an entire game in that 2.5D perspective.

Couldn't get project cars to work though

I tried out pCars. Too lazy to get my wheel set up and configured, but man. Its crazy how claustrophobic you feel in some of those cars. Never realized how tiny they are inside until VR.

These are pretty sweet. I have one of my lighthouses mounted to this, although I'm using the straight arm, which should be better for vibrations.

On my other bookcase unfortunately because of the angle I have to use the suction version at the top of the bookcase.

61IIONQdjIL._SL1498_.jpg

It worked great for a few weeks but it keeps coming off now. Either its loosing its suction, or the warmer weather means the wood is expanding and contracting which impacts it. It still feels really strong when applied (it practically lifts up the bookcase if you try and remove it) but randomly detaches after a few hours.

I totally had the same thing happen to me. The more comfortable you are with VR, (from a mental standpoint, and physical space standpoint) the better that game is. Its the one game so far that I continue to play.
