HTC Vive Launch Thread -- Computer, activate holodeck

I've played the game on Rift and it's the game.

It's normal for anything in which the camera is not directly player-driven.

Thanks for confirming that. Not the best design decision imo, they should have the 3D levels based around the player's position, with no auto camera at all. That would have been awesome.

I think i have a weird issue. I am fine in the vive as long as i am doing roomscale games. No sickness, and my eyes, focus and eyesight are great! When I take the headset off my ability to focus is fucked. Even 12-24 hours after taking the headset off i feel like i am in a dream.

If i go outside for a while on sunny day then my eyes readjust and feel normal. But inside, particularly at work, its hard to even read.

I have a feeling the vive is trying to fix my eyesight and my eye muscles are resisting. I have a problem with squinting and light sensitivity even though I have perfect vision. Also i take medication for anxiety that causes visual issues, dreamworld basically, so vr might just be exasperating that.

The Lab has framerate drops during loading screens. I'm running Steam on a SSD and the OS on a separate SSD, with 32gb of DDR4.

I now just close my eyes during all loading screens, for all games.

I don't even get framerate drops during the loading screens. It's still pretty much 1to1 with both the head and the hands.

This may be a good read for you and anyone else having vision issues/worries.

Chronos works great using revive, I'm about three hours in and i'd say the game is worth it. With the fixed "camera" it plays like an action rpg version of Resident Evil 1 and just being able to move your head around to take in the environment is still something I have to get used to, it's quite amazing.

I played Chronos both on the DK2 and on the vive and I must say I enjoyed the game alot more on the vive. My DK2 is set up for seated experiences while the vive of course is set up for room scale and just being able to walk around a bit in the world just makes it that much more immersive.

Great! Sounds like I'll give it a go then.

I remember when watching Vive demo videos, there was one that took place in a magic shop/room or something and you could cast spells or mix potions? Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Kind of cross-posting from the Oculus thread, but I played a little bit of Chronos last night. It's amazing how different the game feels in game compared to Youtube videos. I kind of expected it to feel like Lucky's Tale where I was looking at a plushy sized person in a diorama (which is cool in it's own right), but it actually feels like you're a person in the world sitting and watching another person (that you're controlling). It's really cool. Can't wait to see what Edge of Nowhere looks like in game.

Holy crap Budget Cuts. I've been quitting out of the demo because I'm afraid of the robots, but it is so good. Just moving around that level with the teleportation feels so good, and nailing the robots with knives you feel like a badass. That feel when you miss all your knife throws and the robot is staring at you.

Still no response from HTC regarding replacing my Vive with the dead pixels. Terrible customer service. To make things worse, I was using my Vive without headphones since I was talking on the phone and I noticed that my left Vive controller's trigger makes a squeaky, creaking noise when it depresses.

Is there a way to teleport around without it showing the preview of where you're going?

I've never been able to finish the budget cuts demo. For some reason every time the framerate bombs into an unplayable mess about halfway through.

How's VorpX for nausea? Is it hurl proof or puke-tastic?

Depends on the person and on the game. Since there is really no teleporting, simply playing a FPS with a controller for some people will be nauseating.

The other issue is frame drops. If you are unable to rock GTAV and Fallout 4 at high framerates outside of VR, you shouldn't expect more in VR.

The VorpX theater does help with a lot of this. Unlike the other theater modes out there, it actually injects 3D.

Generally if you are prone to nausea and motion sickness, I'd say stay away.

I'm pretty much immune but some games I would still describe as "uncomfortable".

just an FYI for racing fans one of the Project Cars Dev's just posted that native Vive support is almost ready for release so good news for those frustrate with the Revive lack of detail.

It's coming. Not much longer!

The only things that gave me any nausea was that spell fighter game where you can choose to move around using the trackpad. But that's really extreme. It moves you really fast and like you're hovering.

The other game was Lucky's Tale but that was very very minor. I could still play it but I'd prefer to take a break after every hour or so.

Is there a way to recenter/recalibrate yourself with the vive when playing a game?

And Dcs stuttery with a 980ti.

Open the Steam overlay and go to settings at the bottom right. Then go to general VR settings and reset seated position. Other than that, if it's standing/roomscale you'll need to do room setup again I guess.

That sucks, with the dk2 I could of recalibrated myself with the press of a button. I can't play the flight sim.

I got Minecraft Vive up and running with shader mods today. It's amazing to see and I highly recommend using the Lagless shader mod along with Forge. It hardly impacts performance and has a significantly better looks. Set in-game graphics to "fast" for performance if you're worried about that.

Maybe you still can. I bet some games will have a binding for it themselves. But for the Vive software/SteamVR itself I don't think there's a button for it.
I noticed in some Rift games they have one. Like Lucky's Tale. You just press the Back button on the Xbox controller.

Most people don't 'care'... but headsup - if you look in the right places (some nsfw subreddits for example), you can get hooked up with an amazing roomscale 3D VR porno game experience (with teleportation and floating off controller menu system).

You can also change the scale of the game world very very significantly. Amazing stuff. Maybe current 'secret best' VR game even I'd say.

link? I've been trying to figure how to watch porn on this thing and can't figure it out. Do I need a separate app or do I need to buy and download "Virtual Desktop"?

How did you install this? I had some shaders installed prior to the VR mod, and the shaders have to be run from a different profile so I can't use them while using VR.

Can you give instructions on how you did it? I think I have forge working finally but I have no mods folder in minecraft. I downloaded shader mod core and I'm supposed to put the file in the minecraft. > mods folder but there is no such folder on my PC so I don't know where to put it to get it to work. There is a Minecraft folder, just not a minecraft"." folder like many things I've seen have been calling for.

EDIT: This is what the install path for minecraft looks like on my PC. C:\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft

Is that normal? The (x86) folder is pretty much what any game that I install on my PC defaults to. Don't know if I should be doing it different. I also can't find the "User > App Data" file path for mincraft or anything else for that matter on my PC without specifically searching for it in explorer.

A possibly faster way is to hold the Steam button (on the Vive controller, Xbox button, or side of headset) until a menu appears. This menu has the recenter right there

Fuck this thing is amazing. Watching the blues play and all I can think about is getting back to the virtual world. Very few things can do that.

I don't think DCS is playable with Vive right now. Needs ATW at least, plane maneuvers + judder = puke

I can do analog locomotion and whatever, but DCS makes me sick very fast.

War Thunder is pretty nice though, but it's not a simulator.

Using this tonight has given me a splitting headache, I think I had the straps too tight. My wife is obsessed with job simulator though, so I'm just sat here watching. Might just push through the pain and have a go on Hover Junkers in a bit.

Does anyone know a way to find out what a good motherboard is for high USB bandwidth? I'm going to get one at some point in the next few months and probably one of the new Nvidia cards, but not having 60fps on the Vive camera is driving me nuts and I would like to get a motherboard with insane USB bandwidth. Hell I'm already full up on the one i'm using now. If I plug in another USB device (like my Kindle) it can't handle it.

Just finished Vanishing Realms.
Absolutely blown away by it.
I've stupidly spent about £150 on software since I got my vive....turns out I should have only spent £20.
Holopoint...vanishing realms and all the demos/free stuff. (Actually that's unfair...there is some other good stuff).
The sword and shield fighting in Vanishing a Realms is visceral. There was a point when I was fighting two skeletons at once, and waiting for them to swing , so I could block and thrust, that I thought I could have been a contender in the Roman coliseum....it made me feel that good. Ridiculous I know.....

Well worth £15 anyway.

Holy crap... My HTC Vive shipped Friday and I'm getting it Monday.

What are the must have items / accessories ? My God, I have so many pages to read through now to catch up. Any tripods you guys suggest I get for the lighthouses ?

Did you buy Audioshield? You should have bought Audioshield.

I watched some VR porn earlier. Was a bit strange because the girls looked like they were smaller than they would really be. I got the same impression watching a couple of music performances too.

Ha. Yes I did, but I've only managed a few songs so far. Must give it a fair crack of the whip.
Between showing the vive off and Holopoint...haven't really give it a go.
The couple of songs I've tried were on normal and the beats/notes didn't match that well. Is it better to up the difficulty, to get a better note rhythm match??

When are you supposed to get the free games that comes with the Vive ? They email you the keys sometimes after it shipped ?

So far I'm getting:

- Audioshield
- SPT
- Maybe Holopoint

"When are you supposed to get the free games that comes with the Vive ? They email you the keys sometimes after it shipped ?"

You'll get the bundle code around the time the credit card charge is finalized.
