I watched some VR porn earlier. Was a bit strange because the girls looked like they were smaller than they would really be. I got the same impression watching a couple of music performances too.

how do I do this? I can't figure it out :\

Do I need an app?

Do I need an app?

I just googled Vive porn and found a site that had a free video on it. I had to download a video player too called Virtual Real Player. There was a really straight forward guide for using Vive on their FAQ. I don't know how to download and play anything else though. I really just grabbed that free video and player.

HMD woes (error 208) day 3:

Troubleshooting continues. Had the bright idea to disconnect the 3-in-1 HDMI between the HMD and link box and replace with an alternate HDMI. Only one that would fit in the HMD was the short one they sent along for link box to PC, but the hope was that could at least isolate the problem to a faulty 3-in-1. Unfortunately that did nothing to help. At this point I"m pretty much out of ideas, I've concluded there is either a problem with my HMD, link box, or some obscure OS/software config issue. Have ticket into steam support and initiated contact to HTC (whose 7-day 09-22EDT live chat is apparently not availabe on Saturdays at 11AM.)

I also had some crap with this, but it was all solved when I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port instead of a 3.0 one. But I'm guessing you've already tried that.

Elite Dangerous and Project Cars Vive support are coming soon according to the developers. Or for ED I guess maybe it's fixes for the issues people have been having.

I don't think DCS is playable with Vive right now. Needs ATW at least, plane maneuvers + judder = puke

I can do analog locomotion and whatever, but DCS makes me sick very fast.

War Thunder is pretty nice though, but it's not a simulator.

How do you get this working on the Vive? Steam does not show it as a VR game.

Great to hear, it looked pretty bad when I loaded it up. Looking forward to delving into it. May wait until I get a 1080 to replace my 970's.

E:D Vive support is already there, it's just there's some issues with UI/Text readability.

Yeah, works fine. I honestly didn't notice the text stuff until it was brought up here/on reddit. If you shove your face into the menus it's totally clear, and from a distance still readable tbqh.

Elite is cool, I just don't really understand it as a game right now. I spent a few hours flying around an asteroid field and warping to planets though.

Some of the new demos I tried are absolute trash.
Tried Astral Domine. This is not a game. It's a shitty college project. it'll also make you feel sick.
Doll City is another one but this is early access. It's currently just a bunch of shit thrown together randomly.

I've got a question for everyone. If you were to buy one Vive game, which would it be? (apart from Elite).

Vanishing Realms, easily. It's short, like essentially everything so far, but it feels great. The only complaint I have with it is items not always having physics is... jarring. Nothing deal breaking obviously, but being able to toss objects around in games like Job Simulator, The Lab, and Budget Cuts really sells the authenticity of the world. A lot of Vanishing Realms feels static, because it literally is. That said, it's an amazing experience, and it's one of the few Vive titles that actually feels like a proper videogame.

This doesn't reflect the bundled games or free stuff, obviously. I think in that realm, The Lab is the best experience you can have with virtual reality right now. Valve absolutely killed it, everything in that package is flawlessly executed. Even the most basic experiences like Robot Repair are mindblowing.

I loved Robot Repair just because of what it implied -
A fully VR portal experience is very very likely

Has anyone tried "Life Is Strange" on the Vive or Rift using VorpX? The game's movement is much slower and I was wondering how well it worked and if it was playable/enjoyable with VR?

If anyone has the ability to try this game with VR and would be willing to share some thoughts, it would come highly appreciated.

Hover Junkers.
Tons of fun.

I've been having a great time with the Vive, but there's no doubt the best thing about it so far is demonstrating it to other people. Just seeing the joy and excitement on their faces mere instants after they put the headset on and are transported into some world is priceless, especially if they don't otherwise play games. It's been a huge success with friends and family I've shown it to, with a pretty wide age range.

I've managed to carve out a nice amount of space in my apartment, aided by the fact that I just moved this week and was able to set things up with the Vive in mind. Roomscale and the sheer tracking fidelity are outstanding to a degree you almost can't overstate; it really hit me when I was playing Fantastic Contraption and casually walking around this makeshift place, bending down to pick up imaginary objects and gluing them to other imaginary objects, building some bizarre thing and watching it sputter to life, with tracking that may as well be 1:1. Chaperone is also lovely and non-intrusive, though that will probably vary depending on the amount of space you have.

These early games may not have substantial replay value (Tilt Brush and Audioshield aside), but they're already mechanically interesting almost by default simply due to the ultra-precise motion control method combined with the roomscale movement. Say what you want about VR, but the potential is there for some truly spellbinding experiences.

whats an not too shameful price to pay on eBay from a scalper?

I'm tired of waiting for mine and figure the difference between

a) waiting, paying list
b) paying list + $X, then selling mine for list + $Y where $X is maybe not to much above $Y

is much the same scenario.

I don't mind paying over. It is just hard to tell where the market really is considering some sales are without the game codes, some are unboxed and used once, some are even for pre-orders.
$1200?
more?

How did you install this? I had some shaders installed prior to the VR mod, and the shaders have to be run from a different profile so I can't use them while using VR.

Can you give instructions on how you did it? I think I have forge working finally but I have no mods folder in minecraft. I downloaded shader mod core and I'm supposed to put the file in the minecraft. > mods folder but there is no such folder on my PC so I don't know where to put it to get it to work. There is a Minecraft folder, just not a minecraft"." folder like many things I've seen have been calling for.

EDIT: This is what the install path for minecraft looks like on my PC. C:program Files (x86)Minecraft

Is that normal? The (x86) folder is pretty much what any game that I install on my PC defaults to. Don't know if I should be doing it different. I also can't find the "User > App Data" file path for mincraft or anything else for that matter on my PC without specifically searching for it in explorer.

Sure I'll write down the steps tomorrow once I'm at my computer and have time, only have my phone at the moment. It's not too difficult but has a couple of quirks.

It's not that simple. There are major aliasing issues that can only be resolved by 150% - 200% supersampling, which brings most systems to its knees.

But as has been said, they are working on it. No clear ETA on the aliasing issue, unfortunately. Which means probably well after 2.1 releases. Which means we might be in for a long wait.

Whatever Oculus has going on with the audio in their first party releases is magical. I haven't played anything with my Vive that sounds as good as Dreamdeck. It dramatically adds to a sense of presence.

Ok. So I found some VR videos but how do I actually view them? Using steam VR and it just gives me big screen mode

Virtual Desktop seems to be the best until now. There is also Whirligig, but its UI is a bit awkward. Also Vrideo has some nice VR videos, but it's not a player per se.

Hover Junkers and Vanishing Realms. I also enjoy Final Approach a lot.

I know that I said this before, but this is really spectacular in VR.

I would like to ask about the availability of this headset, can I order it right now or is there a queue like the oculus? I'm tired of waiting for the rift so at this point I will get whatever is available first.

highly recommend Nova Kane's flight academy then jobs video series ..entertaining but really good tutorials

Do we know when VR headsets are going to hit the stores?

I would imagine closer to fall or even the holidays. I don't think the Vive will be at your local Walmart, instead it will be available at best buy, Microsoft store, game stop, and similar retailers

Judging by your use of the word "queue" instead of wait or line, I will assume you're from the UK and therefore the stores that will carry the oculus or vive will be much, much different.

Edit: not sure if this was posted elsewhere but you can now experience some of scenes from Stufio Ghibli's anime films(Howl's moving castle, totoro etc.) http://www.engadget.com/2016/05/07/check-out-some-of-studio-ghiblis-howls-moving-castle-in-vr/

Ghost Theory looks like exactly the type of Horror game I'd like in VR, spooky and atmospheric but not all modern goreporn.

Definitely more Graphic Adventure based then Action Horror.
Gives me an old school Alone in the Dark meets Amnesia vibe..

5 Days left in the Kickstarter..think its definitely worth a look if you want something deeper in the horror genre as a VR game.

So I followed the trend and wrote a Happy Mother's Day message in tiltbrush and posted it to my Mom's facebook.

It feels like cheating.

Virtually feels like it

Have you already tried uninstalling and resinatlling steamvr (and steam itself), all of the associated Vive USB drivers, and going through the complete installation process again?

Uninstalled the USB drivers via the settings menu, followed by SteamVR and all Vive related software, rebooted. Completely re-ran Vive setup again. Got the same result as my previous attempts.

I also had some crap with this, but it was all solved when I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port instead of a 3.0 one. But I'm guessing you've already tried that.

Inspected my USB ports to discover that they're all apparently USB 3.0 ports. It appears that the headset is connecting properly over USB at least, in the settings menu for SteamVR all USB items turn whte (from gray) when refreshed, is this the correct behavior? The 208 error seems specifically related to the displays within the HMD and the HDMI connection. Only other thing I can think to do here is to add a 2.0 hub between the link box and PC to try and force to 2.0 connection.

Thanks for the responses and suggestions.

Everyone's saying the three games I figured they'd say.
Audioshield, Hover Junkers and Vanishing Realms.

I might just get Vanishing Realms for now.

Got a couple requests to explain how to get shader mod support for Minecraft Vive, so I cobbled together all the steps from separate posts and put them below. Shout-out to Asker who helped clarify some of the steps. I also included a video link of how to install the vanilla version since there many new people getting a Vive and its totally worth it to see Minecraft in VR.

FOR VANILLA MINECRAFT VIVE SETUP: this video pretty much explains everything you need to know. He goes through it step-by-step and also has links in his comments.

IF YOU WANT TO USE SHADER MODS FOR MINECRAFT VIVE (requires a good rig):
  • Download Forge. This what you’ll use as a launcher for mods. Make sure it’s the 1.7.10 - 10.13.4.1614 version that is compatible with Minecrift.
  • Launch the Minecrift Vive installer (as explained in the video above). You need to check the “Install with Forge” box when you do this. It doesn’t matter if you already installed Minecrift previously without this box checked, just re-run it and it will properly overwrite the files. If your version of the Installer does not allow you to check the box with Forge, then dowload this version of the Installer and it should be checkable (courtesy of Asker).
  • Download the 1.7 version of GLSL Shaders Mod and copy the .jar file into the “.minecraft/mods” folder. If you don’t have a mods folder, then create it and drop the file in there. The GLSL ShaderMod is the actual mod that enables shaders and is launched by Forge.
  • Now that you have a Shaders Mod, you need to pick a shader you prefer. Note that the top shader mods like Sonic Ether and Sildurs are likely going to crush your performance to the point where you will NOT want to play in VR. I personally recommend using the Lagless or ItsMagicMelonshader mods. They give a nice visual boost with little sacrifice to performance.
  • After downloading your shader, unzip the file and copy that folder to the “.minecraft/shaderpacks” folder. Once again, if you don’t have that folder in your directory then just create it and drop the file in there.
  • Launch Minecraft and select the “Minecraft Vive w/Forge”profile. It should load up and display on your HMD. You should now see options on the menu screens for “Mods” that show all mods being used.
  • NOTE: If you get an error when launching the above profile, click “edit” on the profile, go to the JVM arguments text field, and paste this at the very end (don’t include the quotes): “ -Dfml.skipFirstTextureLoad=false”. I had this issue and it was fixed after pasting that in.
SETTING YOUR SHADER AND TWEAKING PERFORMANCE
  • Select a shader on the “shaders” button on the second menu. Turn off normal mapping, spectral mapping, and cloud shadows on the right side of the “shaders” screen. Also make sure “old lighting” is turned to off. This will drastically help your performance and you can always come back to turn these on later if you have extra overhead.
  • Under “video settings”, set all graphics options to “Fast” if you have the option. Turn off things like “better grass” so you can get the fps you need in VR. Also, turn off smoothing options, as that has big impact too.
  • Make sure that your view distance is set at Normal (8) or less at the start. This also has a big impact on performance if you had it cranked higher.
  • Launch the game and check performance…if performance is not speedy enough for VR, then go back to graphics options and turn down more options until you have a solid frame rate.

Note that for the .minecraft folder, mine was hidden under "C:/User/*Your W10 User Name*/Appdata/Roaming/.minecraft". That’s where I was transferring the above files, I was not using the “minecraft” folder in program files.

Hope this helps! Enjoy Minecraft VR with a few extra bells and whistles. Now that you have Forge installed, you can also add in any other content mods you like as normal, just make sure they’re 1.7 compatible.

The vive impresses me every time I put it on and it works (which is like 80% of the time).

Playing Hover Junkers multiplayer with a friend on the same ship and being able to actually see some of his movement mannerisms is an amazing feeling/sight to behold.

I can only imagine how many amazing games/apps we will have by the end of the year, and with it further optimization.

If you have yet to try Big Screen beta with a friend give it a shot, it's like Lan parties only super futuristic. Really looking forward to updates to that.

I had some major controller and tracking issues. Completely uninstalling and reinstalling not just steamvr, usb drivers etc, but steam itself solved my issues.

I finally got a chance this morning to complete The Gallery Episode 1. It is one of the best roomscale / VR experiences and shouldn't be missed. Due to its length, I can't exactly say that the steep price tag is justified but since people are looking for quality content at this point... look no further.

Holopoint is fucking legit! Once you get in a rhythm you feel like Legolas, Rapid firing arrows and deftly dodging out of the way of incoming fire. Also a great workout lol.

So I tried to to get my Vive to display on my TV yesterday and couldn't get it to work for the life of me. I couldn't use the included HDMI cable since it was too short. You think that's the problem? If so, what kind of HDMI cable can I use?

So I can't get the steam interface to come up anymore in VR. When I hit the system button the laser pointer will come up in the controller but no Steam interface. I've tried rebooting and restarting the devices.
