I think I overstated when I said AAA games, what I mean is games which are complete.

I have no problem with short games or games with less than great graphics as long as they are complete.

I have been thinking back to have much I enjoyed messing with the DK2 and so I decided to order the vive and the 1080.

It was probably more addressed to the story driven adventure type request. That's not something that you'll find a whole lot of in VR right now. Certainly not enough to make the purchase worth it by themselves IMO. There are some games that fall into that category, but not all are actually finished, polished games of typical length. Those that are have had the VR aspect integrated later in the development cycle.

VR is more about the action focused games right now. The other stuff will come with time, but for now that's more or less the state of it.

What about Solus Project?

If you're referring to the previous conversation chain, then Solus Project would fall under the "VR integrated later in the development cycle" category as evidenced by the the state of the controls at launch.

Edit: To be clear, I don't mean that as a dig at the game. Just highlighting the reality that there aren't many games like that which have been made for VR from the ground up. Even fewer that are actually complete experiences.

I thought the conversation had shifted to this:

What currently is the best story driven/ adventure type game?

And I should say that I don't have any experience with Solus Project but I've heard it's one of the meatier VR experiences, and it's not all actiony from what I understand.

Ah, gotcha.

And yeah, Solus Project and The Assembly are two that probably fit the bill the best for "complete" games. (At least when Oculus exclusives aren't in the picture.) The later of the two is reportedly a shorter experience though. That said, I don't have personal experience with either, so no direct recommendations from me.

Anyone got the VRcovers? what's your take on them? Considering getting one of the foam replacements and a cover, cause I don't think the foam that came with the Vive is going to last.

I have the foam replacement "covers". Not really covers and just two thinner vinyl covered foam replacements. I have no complaints. Kind of expensive for what they are but they work fine for me. They are thinner so less padding and could be uncomfortable but I can still wear the headset for hours without discomfort. Fiance can't use them though. Eyes sit closer due to the thinness and her eyelashes hit the lenses. For comparison I also tried the sleep mask foam replacement mod, which is honestly just too thin.

Now that I'll soon have a VR capable rig, what are the very best games to experience in VR? I need to start doing some research into them to see if I end up with a Vive now or if I can wait until some 2nd revision comes out in a year or two.

Cool, thanks, I'm thinking of getting the new memory foam replacements, a bit thicker (apparently same as the original ones). Thing is, even with the original ones, my eyelashes hit the lens, but I don't really want to play with moving the lenses further out so I just deal with it hehe.

But yeah, they're "a bit" on the expensive side, but meh, having spent so much on VR already (Vive, GTX1080, all the damned games) another $60 isn't exactly going to kill me I suppose.

I have the waterproof cover and the waterproof foam replacement (6mm). I suggest getting the latter. Love it. The cover is decent but it's hard to get it to cover the entire foam and the all in one version makes it redundant. I'd only go with the actual cover if you want the non-waterproof version.

Oh yeah, that looks way better - no contest since you still get two in the package at the same price. (I have the waterproof covers too, but not the foam replacement version)

Ha, yeah I felt the same. My "modest" computer build has turned into a ridiculous expenditure because of VR.

I ordered the thicker version of those replacement foam things that went up the other day, interested to try those out. Mainly I just want one that is easier to wipe down, as the default foam really is a sweat sponge.

I think those are the ones I got. They look like it. Easy to wipe off and clean. Certainly better to demo the headset with, especially for the more active games.

I think you will be better off using weights on your wrists rather than on controller.

Weights on wrists + audio shield can be quite intense.

If it works, it works, but just so you know, a valve employee says that the lenses aren't designed to work from such a close distance, and that these super thin covers could minimize feelings of presence as a result.

I've been thinking about attaching weights to my Vive controllers for workout purposes. Has anyone here tried that before?

This depends on how developed your ligaments and tendons already are. I mentor in martial arts and I would encourage you or anyone to properly exorcise/prepare your body with the exact same movements you will be doing when you add weights for at least a month before adding very small amounts of weights at a time depending on your state of health. A concept that is hard for a lot of people to understand is that healthy muscle takes a lot longer to develop than big bulky scared muscle but it will eventually be pound for pound much stronger, efficient and durable not to mention that it will last longer into your later years and is much healthier on your joints.

I can agree with that. There is a community that swears by a mod to use a padded sleeping mask, cut to fit/cheap and easy, and it is not only uncomfortable to me, I did feel it hindered the experience visually. The VRcovers replacements are thin but are still double+ that mod and while close, I dont perceive any degradation to presence.

After having my Vive for a few weeks, I must say the only real complaint that I have is that there seems to be ZERO ventilation around my mask which results in getting a swamp face in nothing flat. Wish the mask would allow some sort of air flow. Even a little would help.

The 6mm covers are brilliant, bigger FOV and no loss of presence, comfortable and easy to wipe down.

I'm also using prescription VR lenses which protrude further out and no eyelash contact either.

this is also my biggest complaint. VERY annoying to have to constantly wipe the lenses down because they get foggy as fuck.

Waiting for the first Vive add-on that's a fan which clips to the side of the headset and is powered by the aux USB port to aid in ventilation. Would actually be fairly easy to design/make now that I think about it. I don't have said problem though, so I'm not about to do so myself.

I'm considering getting these. If only to be able to actually wipe them down. The ones that come with the Vive get so gross! :x

I get the fog a little, but not terrible so far. However my face gets jungle hot up in that piece and the foam turns into a sloppy swamp mask. Then, if you take it off to give to some other poor sap a try, it's now a COLD, wet swamp mask! YAY!

Well, I finally got my 1070 in. Upgrading from my 770. I have no issue gaming on my 770 but the Vive forced me to upgrade. I also upgraded from 8GB RAM to 16.

Time to play my VR games again. I hope the image clarity is better. Any cool new games come out since Pool Nation VR?

Nooooooo. I hope character classes at least get different amounts of stamina/regen speed, because otherwise that's a huge Saija nerf.

Everything else sounds great.

If there is going to be any kind of restriction on tele-dashing then I definitely want Saija to be able to have some kind of offensive or utility application for hers. :p

Though maybe as the "melee" character she should be the only one who does not have a restriction on tele-dashing as her advantage in that regard.

Squats :p

I have the basic covers and once you figure out how to place them they are pretty convenient. Especially nice for demonstrations since you can use a fresh cover for different people and they are easily washable.

So, there's this porn thing called VRGirlz. They are super detailed 3D scanned models you can zoom in on and rotate. It's pretty freaky and not the slightest bit arousing. Still, impressive in a way.

I have the leather one and it's pretty good. It's somewhat tricky to fit perfectly on the gasket, but it's very convenient when it comes to cleaning up sweat and whatnot. Also doesn't irritate my face as much as the foam does.

So I had my Base Station received on HTC's end on the 8th - had a failed laser in it. I expected them to just replace the device, but it's now the 23rd and there's been no movement still. WTF do I do? I contacted their chat support and all they really said is they're having delays in the process for Vive equipment.

Thanks for the feedback. went ahead and got both the basic cover and the memory foam replacement. Basic cover for demoing, and the memory foam replacement cause as with you Exuro, the original ones do cause me some irritation around the face.

https://vrcover.com/product/htc-vive-foam-replacement-6mm/ - so people who bought and used this are generally happy with their purchase? I remember there were some horrible covers out there so I do not want to get burned.

I think it was this one http://vrfoam.com/ that had some issues, people got the foam replacements. One thing that shows they weren't really professional enough is the whole site is HTTP, even the login.

Yes, that's exactly it, I did not remember the name. That's why I want to hear actual users' opinions about VRcover products before ordering. Especially since they are not cheap.

I picked up the sports cover. They work good and are great for guests as you can clean it easily. However, I have noticed that they leave longer lasting lines on my face. I have a complete circle where the vive was for about an hour after wearing it with the sports cover. I think the foam is more comfortable, but the grossness when guests use it and sweat is a bit too much for me when it is wet to the touch.

I will say that it is way over priced. After looking at it, I think you could make it yourself for a lot less. I would prefer HTC make something else for it though as the foam is going to need to replaced in the future anyways.

As a side note, I got to try a rift after owning a vive for a while. I like the weight and feel of the headset, but the tracking is way worse with only one source. Without the controllers and room setup it just feels incomplete. I think my ideal setup is somewhere between the two. I am excited to try the rift touch controllers when they come out, and I am hopeful that the next generation of headsets will nail the comfortableness needed.

All should just copy PSVR's design really. Best one I've tried.

Well, I tried playing co-op Raw Data tonight. Got up to phase 3 or so of the second mission when I went to toss my katana at a flying drone a little too aggressively and annihilated the fluorescent bulb on my ceiling. Me and the random guy were doing pretty well, too. That wasn't fun to clean up.

Anyone want to jump into that second mission this afternoon or evening?

Raw Data looks like such a blast.
Raw Data in coop is amazing, especially now that we unlocked turrets.

Sadly, we have been suffering issues lately where the client player often sits on an infinite black screen after loading into a level. Has anyone experienced anything like that? Any solutions/workarounds?

Damn, finally unlocked turrets and dual wielding in Raw Data.

And some new abilities too, shuriken burst for the ninja and time warp for Bishop.

Can't wait to dive back in.

Saija and ceilings don't go well together.

Probably the best Vive accessory I've bought so far. Especially as someone who's been playing a lot of sweaty games lately.

Forgot to mention: One of the other changes is being able to change the direction of your teleport mid-dash. I have no clue how that changes stuff in practice though considering how fast the dash already is.

Today I learned that the game seems to reset its tracking once its lost, only on a gameover but not between deaths, which sucks if your are at phase 4 or 5 (steam menu still tracked fine).

Stage 4 is ass if you are alone, good job game for sending waves with two rocket robots on an open field, especially if you melee your way around.

Also an Edentech drop is not guaranteed after a successful run, or Stage 3 does not have one despite the menu showing it.

Drones still suck.
