On topic: OP, do what you must to play P4, it's much better than P3 IMHO, especially regarding characterization. The gang really feels like a close-knit group of friends, rather than a bunch of people that have to grudgingly stick together for a secondary purpose. I simply can't imagine Yukari seeing Junpei of her own choice again after the game, or any of them seeing Akihiko or Mitsuru.
Pffffffft, the P3 cast have far better characterization. Junpei and Yukari especially have the best development in either game. P3's cast felt much more grounded and realistic to me in terms of how they got along and how long it took for them to grow together as a group yet still having their own lives. P4's cast was much too focused on having the MC always involved in everything and had much more "convenient" friendships that often felt forced in the setup.
P3P is the worst version of that game, imo. It lost so much charm, personality and freedom during the transition to a (mostly) 2D PSP game with a shitty cursor for controls. I still have it installed on the Vita, but hopefully they make a Golden version in the future.

Arcadius, I am deeply impressed by your earnestness and have an immense amount of respect for you for posting this. Please do not listen to the haters coming out of the woodwork to belittle you and put you down. There is nothing at all wrong with being affected by interacting with someone on the Internet. I myself had the opportunity to PM with HolyBaikal on a few occasions and she was very kind and thoughtful, and it was thought-provoking to speak with her. She has some unique perspectives which are difficult for a lot of people to respect but ultimately not hurting anyone and I think those perspectives offer some very reasonable food for thought. At the least, she is truly earnest and the ways she looks at the world are unique and well worth thinking about.
I have to say I'm really disappointed to read so many unempathetic and unkind reactions from GAFers. I wish we were better and more understanding as a community, even from opinions strongly different than our own. Arcadius has every right to the opinions and feelings he so earnestly espouses in the OP, and to me the pile-on response of hundreds of posts of snarky unpleasantness are rude, unkind and unnecessary. I have to say I think the anonymity of the Internet is one cause of people reacting in this way, not just in this thread but all over the web. I think it would be better if everyone had to post using their own name because I think it would cause people to feel more accountable for their words, and hopefully less likely to jot down a harsh reply with little regard for the feelings of the OP.
Anyway, just my two cents. Bottom line, the world needs more people like Arcadius and OP who have unique perspectives and I hope they are able to tune out the deluge of unkind comments that having an uncommon take on the world often brings.
Thank you, Arcadius and HolyBaikal, for having the courage of your convictions to voice your opinions and feelings openly.
This is totally wrong. We are the one who respect, honor, and recognize women the most.
Women are not commodities to be fought over. We help them to get the care, love, and attention they deserve. This is not off putting or weird.
Animated women or not, some of them are the most amazing, sweet, caring, loving, and adorable people in the world. They made our life that much more meaningful and completed. Without them we have no reason to live in this cold and selfish planet. So what's wrong that we do a little to glorify our women who saved us?
Just saying if we are all a bit more respectful or thoughtful or understanding our world would be a much better place. Waifu or not they are our guide and inspiration so we appreciate them, that's all.
Been reading this for years, but never heard the music. Is this from the anime or the movies? It's beautiful!
Otherwise, this thread is amazing。GAF needs a graveyard so we may construct monuments to honor our fallen brethren. Here lies HolyBaikal, who left behind a waifu and thousands of befuddled gaffers.

HolyBaikal got permanently banned? I wasn't even aware of this news...
To be honest, I really think HolyBaikal's a pretty decent person to have around. From what few I have seen of him/her in the threads that I do actually participate in, I find him/her to be someone that I could probably easily strike up a nice conversation with. Never found anything malicious from him/her, really. I do also respect his/her opinions on a bunch of things, and some things we might disagree on, but I guess it wouldn't be life without some disagreements from time to time, no? That, and the disagreements are understandable. It actually feels a bit...enlightening when you get to know what other people think of something, even if it might seem to be wrong.
Like the OP, I'd probably be really, really relieved if HB could get back here in one piece. Even if one had to set some threads to disallow posting by HB specifically if he/she really was a problem in certain threads, I'd suspect I'll welcome him/her in other parts.
The last thread Holy posted in was about female athletes beating men's records and Ronda Rousey fighting men in MMA. They were so insufferable there that EVILORE HIMSELF came in and possibly dropped the hammer. It was nuts.
In other news, this thread gives me an emotional BSoD.
Are people really so ridden by their own emotions that they feel guilty for not trying to understand people? I mean shit, everybody does this all the time anyway, with impunity I might add.
I know it's hard to go through a long post and then go through 12/24 pages of posts to see all the entertainment, reactions and talks that occurred, but this was more of a special case.
Wow! After reading all of that I don't know what to say really. Your post really touched me.
I'm happy for you op, to find someone that can change you in such a drastic way is fascinating and must have been very special to you, I respect you for opening and expressing to us all your feelings even if they may be silly or crazy for a lot of people
I definitely thought this was a drunk thread
, because it requires a lot of courage to do this. I would never be able to do it, I'm too shy about my own feelings.
I want to say that not everyone with a female anime character in their avatars consider these their waifu.
Thanks for reading and posting a comment, means a lot to me. This probably would have been a great drunk thread, no lies, but alas, it was serious. The post about not all anime characters being waifus or anime girls one may love has cross my mind before, but on the internet it's so hard to know what's what. It may be wrong, but I seemed to have clumped all uses like that together in a waifu pile, it's wrong of me I know, and I'll take the comment into consideration, thanks again!
That was a lot of text! I've mostly skimmed through Persona LTTP but I've read the most of it.
It's OK, Arcadius. Admitting one's mistakes takes some courage. It's always a good thing to do. Even if the topic may seem silly or weird to most of the other people. I'll be just another person that accepts your apology, even if whatever you ever said didn't directly affect me.
Holy was an interesting person but also seemed pretty fragile. I didn't know that she was banned, unfortunatly it's hard to follow all and everything that NeoGAF creates on the daily basis. I hope that she's well and getting banned from NeoGaf doesn't affect her. I can't say I've read her threads and posts but what I've read was interesting in many ways. Thanks, Holy!
It's interesting that you have embrassed the whole waifu, VN and anime culture that you seemed to dislike. Just do not too deep down the rabbit's hole. As much I think myself as an accepting and open minded person, there's a fine line between obsessive and a fan.
You should try 999, it's an amazing VN. And check out Kawata Shoujo, if you haven't already. Just another example of a "hentai" VN that has a number of great heartfelt stories while keeping hentai part as a very secondary thing (and you can turn the scenes off).
Thanks a ton for reading through my thread, I really appreciate it! I will heed your advice on not to go to far down that rabbit's hole when it comes to waifus and anime culture, your concern for me is duly noted and highly appreciated! =) Thanks for the VN recommendations.
I read the whole thing....and had to stop here at this post. Will have to read other responses later.
Dont know how anyone will take this but I am literally crying right now.....from laughter.....tears running down my face, face contorted, etc. Reading the whole thing makes the responses even funnier. This has to be in the running as best thread of 2015....has to.
I have seen longer posts....maybe because I have a wide screen monitor long posts done seem as bad.
I will give it to ya....you got guts OaP. In all seriousness, Holy needs to see your post. Just for its sincerity alone.
Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the thread, even if it's for entertainment purposes! If this thread was "best thread of 2015", I'd be pretty ecstatic to be honest, first thread of my life and it really hit off well!
I read this entire thing, which was insane, and I don't know how to reply. On one hand, I recognize your incredible earnestness, however misplaced it may seem. On the other hand, everything you said is completely off-the-charts bonkers.
If Holy changed your life and is the best person you ever met for the impact he has had I think you might be too impressionable to safely be part of a community like this. I can't imagine how your must be reacting to people's replies to this thread, considering you couldn't even write your post without apparently crying your eyes out.
This is extremely unhealthy, but I am sorry you are so upset.
Thanks for taking time out of your day to read my long thread/posts, it means a lot to me and I understand why one would be concerned about me, I really do. Having spoken to other members earlier this morning, I'd like to believe I'm actually okay and quite healthy mentally. I am no longer upset about anything I've written =), it's all good.
Yes it is, I asked EviLore a long time ago if such a thread where okay, I never got a reply so continued to put it in Gaming, another member mentioned I should probably OT post it too, but I don't think it's necessary.

Why do most men commit to affairs that result in hate, isn't that what you asked us in the original post concerning HolyBaikal, Arcadius?
It is true. Men possess a side that is barbarous, as you have observed... but it is a double edged sword. It can be a tool used for winning discussions as well as protecting them. For most people, these discussions will revolve around friendship or love. In fact, for some people, these are the most precious of all.
But I believe that beneath them, there is something even more precious than these. They are driven to pursue it and they pursue it solely for their own sake, no other. One man's dream can hold dominion over the entire world, for one who dedicates his life to the forging of a single thread. While many can pursue their dreams in solitude, other dreams are like great storms blowing hundreds even thousands of dreams apart in their wake. Dreams breathe life into men, and can cage them in suffering. Men live and die by their dreams, but long after they've been abandoned, they still smolder deep in men's hearts. Some see nothing more than life and death. They are dead. For they have no dreams.
You seem to be an able poster, it's true. A dedicated person who would sacrifice his own account for HolyBaikal's dream so that it might be real. But that does not make you his friend. In my mind, a true friend never relies on another's dream. You must have your own reasons for living, beyond anyone else. You should put your heart and soul into protecting your dream. Never hesitate to defend it, even against the ones you love. For me to call someone my friend, he must be equal to me in all respects.

Consider P3 got me into the series and I loved every minute of it, it was doing something right. After playing both 3&4 I actually still prefer the cursor style since it makes the game nice and quick. In 4 I didn't see the point in running around looking for people.
God damn it. I never asked for any attention to begin with. People framing it like this is fucking obnoxious.
I asked how long it would take people at customer support to get back to me and remove a subscription and it spiraled into this thing of people calling me OCD. Suddenly because I respond to people because they respond to me for several god damn fucking pages I'm a god damn fucking attention whore.
Fucking A.
WHY THE FUCK DID I NEED TO SHARE THIS SHIT? WHO'S FUCKING BUSINESS IS IT?
FUCKING MINE. AND I'M SOME FUCKING ATTENTION WHORE BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE ARE CURIOUS.

The fact you were able to infer this when no one else did is quite amazing. I'm not sure I was asking any sort of question regarding HolyBaikal about men committing affairs which lead to hate, but I really appreciate your post on friendship. You are absolutely correct that sacrificing my account for Holy will probably not make me Holy's friend, this is always a possible outcome in the grand scheme of things. I will, however, disagree with your point on friendship; I gather many would probably agree with you too, about living for oneself instead of someone else to gain satisfaction and friendship, but I believe there are moments in time when relying on one another is perfectly normal and can happen throughout a friendship many times. Thanks for the insight though, it's a different approach to the thread and it lovely to read.
I respect you OP, for taking your time and go through the trouble of writing such a long message here, and expressing your mind without fear of replies, bans, and what not.
Not sure if it would help to bring the user back from the permaban, but it's nice that you would go as far as getting banned to bring him/her back. Hopefully he/she's reading this right now, and try to get in touch with your GAF email or something.
I do not subscribe to the barometer of what's weird or not - prefer to have an open mind. I read the whole OP. Sounds you guys should have exchanged some kind of messaging contact information.

Thanks for reading the thread, it's a pretty arduous task. I don't believe I would have brought Holy back, but I wrote so much, figured it was worth a try anyways.
It's a work in progress with HolyBaikal.
Thanks to the both of you for your comments, I really appreciate it. (I know I keep saying it to the replies, but it's true). =) Happy Easter!

I just read this thread and I have to say this is one of the most heartfelt and strange posts I've ever seen. So bravo OP for sharing this with us. You're OK in my book.
