Baikal was just trying to share her passion. On a good day where everybody's mood isn't slightly sour, there was probably no real reason for dislike.
Probably came off a bit too forceful of her opinions though. Kinda felt that when I read her posts.

Good lord, I know your heart is in the right place, but I would not recommend HolyBakai be a role model for anyone, and while I appreciate the effort and time taken to write that post, in hindsight it might be doing your cause for 'waifu' culture a lot more harm than good.

I always enjoyed reading Holy's posts on transhumanism. She had a very interesting ideal in her head about what technology could do for us in terms of identity and bringing happiness. I hope she has a good life, because she seemed to be a good-hearted person all around.
I wish I had more time to indulge into VNs myself. I love the medium, and I have such a great backlog of classics to work through for it, but they take rather long to complete.

I agree with this. I also appreciate the OP had the guts to post what he posted and I bet half or more of NeoGAF users don't have the same confidence on themselves to reveal stuff about them on such a huge site (and keep posting in the thread, reading a lot of mean spirited replies). I also appreciate HolyBaikal as an user and I hope she comes back to NeoGAF someday, hopefully with less thread derailing.
That said, I still hate this waifu stuff and how great threads are often derailed when someone starts to talk about "their" waifus, so since there are no rules against waifu talk on NeoGAF, I hope you don't become one of those people who love to shit up on threads with waifu talk, OP. I also think those hentai VNs are pretty disgusting, you should give great VNs (like Zero Escape and Ace Attorney) a try instead. Oh and one more thing, OP: Don't go play Xenoblade expecting dating sim/waifu stuff. There is some pandering/fanservice here and there, but the game isn't like most modern JRPGs, thankfully. Have fun with the best home console game of the past generation!

I had a crush on an animated Character once when i was a kid. "Nadia: The secret of the blue water". So i can relate to some extend I guess?
While I think there is nothing inherently wrong with waifu culture the problem I see is the representation of girls/women in japanese animated media. But I barely watch anime so I don't want to judge on it as a whole.
Interestingly enough, I do remember a thread by the member mentioned in the OP about feminism and representation of women in anime.
Besides, after reading a study on shipping culture and doing some research on my own this whole waifu thing is pretty mellow when it comes to the "weirdness-scale".
Full disclosure: My Waifu is Morrigan Aensland and has been since I first played Marvel VS Capcom 2 arcade when I was a kid. Yuyuko Saigyouji too.

Having read through every post in this thread so far, it's hardly a standout statement aside from maybe its bluntness. I'm sure many can agree that this is a weird thread with weird sentiments with a weird amount of text put into it.

It's OK, Arcadius. Admitting one's mistakes takes some courage. It's always a good thing to do. Even if the topic may seem silly or weird to most of the other people. I'll be just another person that accepts your apology, even if whatever you ever said didn't directly affect me.
Holy was an interesting person but also seemed pretty fragile. I didn't know that she was banned, unfortunatly it's hard to follow all and everything that NeoGAF creates on the daily basis. I hope that she's well and getting banned from NeoGaf doesn't affect her. I can't say I've read her threads and posts but what I've read was interesting in many ways. Thanks, Holy!

You should try 999, it's an amazing VN. And check out Kawata Shoujo, if you haven't already. Just another example of a "hentai" VN that has a number of great heartfelt stories while keeping hentai part as a very secondary thing (and you can turn the scenes off).

Dont know how anyone will take this but I am literally crying right now.....from laughter.....tears running down my face, face contorted, etc. Reading the whole thing makes the responses even funnier. This has to be in the running as best thread of 2015....has to.
