Didn't stop him from opening up the shipping box and then taping it up when he decided he didn't want a processor and motherboard, so I wouldn't be surprised haha. The thing was battered, and the CPU box was a bit iffy (mostly minor tears and scuffs, though) but still had the factory seal on it. The guy that actually delivered it said that they'd already referred it to the manager and he had me look over everything in front of him. But I just noticed the bent corner a few minutes ago, slipped right by me. Even the die is bent.
It'll probably still work, but I don't want to take the chance.
Going to build a PC in the fall for 3-5 grand, what kind of tech can I get excited about? I know Haswell is not what everyone expected, but maybe a refresh will fix some of the problems. Is Nvidia releasing something amazing in the fall?
Just wondering if there was any amazing tech coming out around Oct-Nov.
For that kinda budget you will be looking at Ivy-E which should launch later this year.
New AMD cards later this year, don't think Nvidia 800 is coming out until next year.
Thanks, I had no idea Intel would release an update possibly as soon as September. Hmm kind of a shame Nvidia 800 wont be coming till 2014. What is the best card on the market in the fall? I really don't want SLI.
What country are you in too? Forgot to ask that.
I am confused. What resolution is your tv? If it is 720 a 680 is overkill.
*writes down everything*Add a Maximus V Gene Z77, and then the rest of the parts from the Enthusiast build in the OP. Corsair H60 if you want to push an overclock, or the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 if you just want something quiet. For the power supply, Seasonic X660, or Corsair AX760 if you are thinking about the possibility of a second Titan at some point.
I'm actually not 100% sure. ITX cases are tempting, but I'm worried about them being too small for a titan and such. Thanks for the bluetooth advice too! You're sure you want MATX and not ITX for being small? Case choice is a personal one so if you love the 350 then you love the 350 and that's fine
Most itx cases will hold a Titan. They are waaaay better designed than they used to be.*writes down everything*
Will look into this tomorrow, thank you!

Who was it you ordered from in the end? Amazon?
Yeah, that's really high for idle.
What temp should I be aiming for?
My case is well due for a cleanup so this will help but still...
Yup. They used a few different postal services for each product though. Mobo and processor were Citylink, case was YODEL, etc.
Was it Yodel or CityLink that did the damage? Or was it RM?
Citylink. I'm not sure if the bent CPU was them or the manufacturer but the shipping box was torn open by them.
Hey guys quick question.
I'm running an i5-2400 @ 3.1Ghz with the stock fan.
I'm looking at my temps in the bios right now and its running at 72C (161F) for the CPU and 37C (98.6F) for the system overall. It's been on for over a week but idle all day.
I've never been good with the temps stuff. Isn't that on the high side? Note that I don't have any problems with the PC per say but I've been wondering.
Thanks!

So Gaf I am currently trying to upgrade my PC. I haven't really kept up with parts all that much.
I plan on spending 1-2k on it. All I need is help with what cpu, mobo, ram and gfx card to get.
I got everything else I want in my cart. Would like it to last 2 years.
Right now I am running i7-2600k with 8gb of ram and a Nvidia GTX 460. Any help would be awesome!

Does she use it to play intensive games? If not, just buy an inexpensive AMD FX system or an i3.Really? lol I got this 2 years ago I plan on using this PC parts for my gf rig. Thats is kinda why I am upgrading because hers is dying.
Haswell is a really minor bump, and is actually inferior in many ways.
When you say things like this you're giving the impression that people in the market for a new PC now and in the foreseeable future (until the shrink), would be better off not getting the Haswell.
What I've been reading suggests that's not true.
Can you provide some concrete data for your "inferior in many ways" claim?
She does, plays all the same games I do. I wont be overclocking going with stock cooling.
That's you problem right there. Like many of us, you could have been enjoying 2600K @ 4.4-4.6GHz for the last 2 years and beyond. It's stupidly easy to OC. Any CPU, running at stock, you buy today or near future will get its ass handed by that 2600K OC.
Well shit.
The last time I built her PC I got her an i5 760. Think that will hold her over still or should I go ahead and get something else. I would like to get a new cpu mobo and ram just so I can easily give her this one.
So far I got BenQ XL2420T monitor, MSI N780 gfx card and SAMSUNG 840 500gb ssd.
Yep, OCing is so easy to do (and with basically no downsides realistically) there isn't a reason no to.
Can the same be said with GPUs? I barely remember the last time I oc'ed a gpu (4200 ti iirc) and freaked out at the first sight of artifacts lol.Yep, OCing is so easy to do (and with basically no downsides realistically) there isn't a reason no to.

To be honest with something like a 780, I don't think I would need any more processing power for the meantime but if its as easy as oc'ing sandy or ivy chips in the CPU world, I would probably give it a shot again.
Ok, question:
So my 570 had just been connected with the two 6 pin PCI-E cables shown. This is extremely nooby but I imagine I have to match both the 6 pin and 8 pin adapters? As in I need to plug in both a 6 pin and 8 pin?
She does, plays all the same games I do. I wont be overclocking going with stock cooling.
My last C2D I got away with stock cooling and overclocking. If you have a decent internal setup with fans you can get quite a bit out of the system granted the motherboard doesn't suck.
As others said not ocing especially with a cpu is just throwing money out the window.
