Well the thing is i sold my R9 290 4GB with the prospect of a lower power draw RX 480 8GB but the prices here in Denmark is just insane with stock 480 8GB versing being 300 euro (so the nitro is a way better buy). The 4GB version is sold out. I will be at 1080p 144hz for some time now. The idea is that the card will be a temp upgrade for a Year or so. overcloking the RX 480 to around fury will prob put it at same power draw as the R9 fury, but still less then my old Card so not sure if it worth it.
I'm debating whether I should build a new rig or just stick with this one (+ PS4), since so far I've been able to run most of the current games at sufficient detail/fps.
My current setup:
Phenom II X6 1055T (oc at 3,5ghz)
8gb ram
ASRock 890GX Extreme3
AMD R9 280 DirectCU II TOP, 3GB (small oc)
I'm guessing the CPU is bottlenecking me most, but is there any point in upgrading it anymore with that mobo? If there is, what is the best CPU I could get?
Eyeing up the BenQ XL2430T at £230 for a friend. His max budget is £220 but I'm chucking in a tenner to help him out. The Asus VG248QE is currently £220 but is going on sale in 1 hour, should I wait for the Asus and save him some money or get the BenQ?
Can anyone recommend me a Mobo please? i'm in the UK and Amazon would be preferred due to having Prime as i'd like all my parts to arrive at the same time.
I'm gonna be buying an i7 Skylake (overlocking model) so I need a mobo for it but I'm not sure if I should grab one with DDR4 support and buy RAM swell or buy one with DDR3 support and just use the 16GB I already have.
£100 or about that on one would be great if possible
The ASRock Z170 Extreme4 looks great at £108 but I've never used ASRock so when I did my build I bought the Asus Z170 Pro but that ones costs £140. Gigabyte and Asus are amongst the most favoured brands. RAM wise look for the corsair 3000mhz kits they are great and excellent value on Amazon uk.Can anyone recommend me a Mobo please? i'm in the UK and Amazon would be preferred due to having Prime as i'd like all my parts to arrive at the same time.

I don't think he needs the extra features, he just wants a high refresh rate monitor. Mostly plays LoL and CS:GOXL2430T is the better monitor, if you care about the feature's BenQ gives you (Blur Reduction).
Otherwise, if they just want a 144hz experience the Asus will be fine.
Anything with a z170 chipset, definitely go for DDR4 3000mhz because the ram speed as a big impact on FPS. Good brands are Gigabyte, Asus and MSI. This is the board I have: Gigabyte ATX GA-Z170X-UD5 TH
CS is great with blur reduction, but if the Asus is going to drop in price and he's budget minded, might as well go with it.I don't think he needs the extra features, he just wants a high refresh rate monitor. Mostly plays LoL and CS:GO

Thanks for that I was gonna go for 3000Mhz Ram (Corsair Vengeance I think) the Mobo you linked to here is a few weeks wait but there is this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B013E37HCI/
Would that do? gonna be putting a 980 on there swell.
only issue I have with the mobo I linked to is the colour - my rig is black and green mainly.
Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM 288-Pin CL16
Suitable for gaming?
Thanks. I'll wait till 4pm and see what price the Asus drops to and then pass the decision on to him.CS is great with blur reduction, but if the Asus is going to drop in price and he's budget minded, might as well go with it.
Yea the board looks great and has positive reviews, along with the vengeance ram and 980 you'll be sorted for a while.oh nice find that board would look much better in my rig since finding a black/green one is insane. Yeah I was gonna go with the Vengeance 3000Mhz ones 2x8GB for now along with my current 980 should do me for a while.
Even if the price difference is about $50 more?Yeah that color scheme will be something else. That's why I like mine, it's mostly black. The one you picked has a lot of bells, whistles and lights that you might not need. Unless you want two m.2 slots. Everything else is comparable.
Edit: I wouldn't go with the ASRock. 3 stars on newegg, isn't as good of a brand as Gigabyte or ASUS.
Should be, I'd go with 3000mhz, its the sweet spot with price v perf.

I have a 1070 on the way and been thinking about buying a 1440p monitor too but I'm not sure if the fps hit is worth it :/

I would prefer that Gigabyte board over the ASRock. But I may be biased as I've only had experience building with Asus and Gigabyte and I've never had any problems.I'm at two minds now on that ASRock :S
What about this one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B013E37KPC/ long as it supports the 3000Mhz RAM and my Kraken x41

EDIT: It will also perfectly support your RAM and the Kraken cooler
Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Glass edition looks incredible.
It's not cheap, but I want it...
Your cable management has to be on point so it would be best to get cablemod or some other sleeved cables that fit your PSU. Then you'd also need matching color scheme for the sata cables, and the fan connectors and everything else.
But fuck it looks good. Tempered glass is gorgeous, and its actually one of the few cases where I like illumination inside the case because the the glass dims it making it not annoying at night.
Thanks for the help guys think I'll spring for the gigabyte one overall and buy it all together.
oh a side question will I need to upgrade my PSU? it's 550w (I think)
Unless you play at 120Hz, a 1070 is way too fast to be limited to 1080p.
I'd go for the Fury normally. But in your situation and with what you said in mind, I'd definitely go with the 480 and either add another 480 down the line or upgrade to something else to keep the low power draw. It just doesn't make sense to me to spend more for something that you'll be upgrading in a year or so.Well the thing is i sold my R9 290 4GB with the prospect of a lower power draw RX 480 8GB but the prices here in Denmark is just insane with stock 480 8GB versing being 300 euro (so the nitro is a way better buy). I would like that, thank you. I used my 212 on a non-OC CPU because it's much quieter than Intel's stock cooler, I have no idea how it would perform in real world OC situation.
What is the brand and efficiency of the PSU? If it's a decent PSU it should be more than capable of running your setup.
Gsync is your answer.
But price is an issue: the difference in price between gsync and non gsync monitors could get you to buy a 1080.
Anyway, high refresh and variable refresh are a must.
Is the Logitech G402 mouse really good for everyday PC use as well? $50 CDN right now
That's what I've been thinking but over in the G-Sync thread some people said it's high refresh rates that make most of the difference, not G-Sync.

Did I say something stupid or did my post just get lost in the mix?
It probably just got lost in the mix. How old is your Power supply? The rest looks fine. 1060 isn't out yet, so I can't give you an answer on that.
(the cable management is horrible on my part)
It depends; if you have enough horsepower, sure 144hz is enough.
But when you start averaging around or under 60fps, gsync makes all the difference in the world.
I have a 980ti SLI (a 980ti is very close to a 1070, so it's basically your case) and a 1440p gsync monitor; in demanding games where SLI isn't supported, gsync gets me a smooth experience no matter what (where without you would be limited to drops or 30 locked).
ATM I think it's an OCZ 500W (i thought it was 550) This one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001GLFD54/
But I do have access to a XFX Pro 550 W swell but the power cables were too small for my current case so I never bothered to buy extensions for it https://www.scan.co.uk/products/550...-550s-xxb9-80-plus-bronze-1x135mm-fan-atx-psu
I would recommend you use the XFX just to be on the safe side.
