Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
Something like this maybe?

http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16819113282

What exactly are they using the computer for? Is it purely just browsing?

Browsing, Office, maybe 1080p media consumption.

Recycled case\psu\dvd
going roughly for this:

Mobo: ASRock FM2A68M-DG3+ (45€)
CPU: AMD FM2 A8-7600 3,1GHz (80€)
8gb of reasonable DDR3 ram (2x20€)
The cheapest reasonable SSD i amazon will throw at me today @240gb (60€)

They've given me a 300€ budget, that's 225.. are the stock coolers for AMD still complete shit? May grab something silent.

Yes, it's just a mouse. You'll be fine.

Ended up getting another gaming mouse that's half the price and will do just as well.

GAF - looking to you for a great 4K monitor (money not too big of an option) with low MS, high refresh rate (know I can't hit 144hz, but can I hit 100? 120?) and a reliable brand.

What's out there?

There's no monitor/TV on the market to my knowledge that can go above 60hz at 4k currently outside of a very Expensive Dell 30" 4K OLED monitor for $4,999 and requires either thunderbolt or USB-C to run at that res/frame rate and an insanely powerful rig (SLI 1080's probably wouldn't even hit 100 on many titles) . More are coming soon now with DP 1.4/1.5 however the cost of being an early adopter for that kind of monitor is going to be ungodly. You can probably expect to pay over $1000 for a monitor of that sort when they do become available. It's more likely large TV's with 4k/120hz 4:4:4 will hit before an affordable monitor does.

So you're likely relegated to 60hz 4k or 100hz or so with an ultra wide 3440x1440p like the $1200 Acer X34 predator

Finally pulled the trigger on a new computer-- upgrading from an excellent i7-930 build.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($345.99 @ Amazon)

Storage: Crucial MX200 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($79.99 @ Adorama)
Storage: *Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.00 @ B&H)
Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($154.88 @ OutletPC)

Is there any reason to wait a bit, like new stuff coming out, VA panels maybe? Otherwise I might order the PG279Q today since its cheaper due to Prime Day.

It's a great monitor. I've read some complaints though about panel quality (light bleed and consistency, mostly). It seems to be kind of a lottery these days.

VA, g-sync hi-res monitors are a bit rare or really expensive. And some of them caps out a 100hz (like the 21:9 acer predator).

I have a PG278Q myself, basically the same monitor as the one you want to buy, only that it's TN and 144hz instead of IPS and 165hz. Incredibly happy with it.

Check out the dedicated threads here on GAF:

I'd go for the Fury normally. But in your situation and with what you said in mind, I'd definitely go with the 480 and either add another 480 down the line or upgrade to something else to keep the low power draw. It just doesn't make sense to me to spend more for something that you'll be upgrading in a year or so.

There's not a whole lot of options here. I'm guessing it's not possible to go for team green with a 1070 for a non-temp and low power draw upgrade?

Well i can still return my Monitor (Asus mg248q) will be back to 6 year old Dell U2311h 60hz 1080p though then and get the GTX 1070 instead, i wont have money for 1070 + new Monitor.

Just a question; why the separate WD Black HDDs? The 5TB WD Black is available for $219 on Amazon and has a 128mb cache.

Ordered the Gigabite A-Z170M-D3H and now i'm having seconds thoughs...i went in blind by the recomendation in the OP but after reading some reviews it seems to be not so great...should've gone with ASUS Z170-PRO maybe. I guess i'll just have to hope for the best now. Has anyone here used the gigabite motherboard?

I wonder if the RX 470 will suffice my current needs for the time being. I've become a MP junkie (Overwatch, CS:GO, most definitely the upcoming Battlefield 1) and was wondering if this card would run them at 1080p/60fps, since it seems the RX 480 can run them properly even at 1440p, with very immature drivers.

My system is 16GBs of RAM, i5 6500 and SSD but I haven't felt the need to buy a GPU since the iGPU of my CPU is laughably capable with some tweaks here and there, lol. I'm gaming less and less by the day and I seriously wonder if I'll ever need an expensive card.

I don't think an igpu will meet battlefield 1 requirements? I'm amazed it even fulfills overwatch.

I don't think a 480 will do 1440p maxed, can hit 60fps with some adjustments im sure

I wouldn't even try BF1 with my iGPU, I was talking about CS:GO and Overwatch (at 720p I can run it 60fps+). It was a rhetoric question regarding my future GPU purchase.

going to post this again..

I currently have the Evo 212 on my PC but lately I have been thinking about getting a Corsair H100i V2. My biggest concern is the possibility of the cooler leaking all over my new hardware.. What would Corsair do in that situation? has anyone ever experienced anything like that and does anyone have recommendations?

i can install it on the top of the case or directly in the front but im not sure if it makes a difference to prevent leaks.

Not sure what Corsair would do, you'd have to ask them. But, I've been using Aio water coolers for 10 plus years and have never had one leak. They have been Corsair coolers till this year, I'm using NZXT x61 and X41 right now. The x41 is on my gpu.

What resolution you want? Asus VQ248QE or BenQ XL 2411Z for 1080p. 1440p/144hz is not going to be affordable, as far as I'm aware.

sounds good

but i just want to make sure that getting one of these will allow my gpu to reach higher frame rates

1070 gpu, i7 5820k system here

currently im on a 720 60 hz monitor getting 60 fps in fallout 4

and if i get a 144 hz monitor, fps should definitely go up, right?

i dont wanna buy it and it ends up still at 60 fps..

im new to this so my thinking is that my current monitor capped the frame rate to 60 fps

im looking for an afforable 144hz monitor for my 1070, recommendations please! :)

Budget, resolution, screen size, panel type etc would be helpful.

FPS Will go up as much as the GPU is outputting yes. It won't magically give you 144fps though. Not to mention even on a 1070 at 1440p you wouldn't be that far above 60fps on many titles at max. That being said you're looking at 4x the resolution. It's night and day.

Google is your friend. I literally typed in Fallout 4 1070.
I would get the 1440p monitor unless you really want close to 144 fps

Apparently there are problems though so 60 fps should be your cap. Still, get a new monitor.

Holy shit, it works!!! Couldn't and wouldn't have done it without this thread.

Edit - what should I be doing to test everything? It's probably in the OP, I check there in a bit.

it makes sense that the lower the resolution the higher the FPS, but id like to know what monitors those chart recordings were using

since i am at a 720 monitor my FPS according to the chart should be greater than 129 FPS, but then im running at 60 hz

These parts pretty good for $250 used? A fellow gaffer is selling.

I5-2500k@ 4.5 ghz
Asus p8p67 pro motherboard
Gskill 16gb 2133mhz RAM (2 weeks old)
Antec HC Gamer 750w psu, 80+ gold

Coming my current i7 920 with 6gbs of Ram build.

Will also buy a gtx 1060 or AMD 480 8gb to go with.

It doesn't matter what monitor they were using, they didn't have vsync on.

Turn off vsync and set the fps limiter in the ini file to off if you want to see what you can get at 720p

Good question and sorry I didn't mention it in the original post-- They are old cannibalized drives from my current desktop. I will likely consolidate at some point. Thanks for the 5tb mention, I will check that out!

Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Glass edition looks incredible.

It's not cheap, but I want it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKUkj23GgFE

Your cable management has to be on point so it would be best to get cablemod or some other sleeved cables that fit your PSU. Then you'd also need matching color scheme for the sata cables, and the fan connectors and everything else.
But fuck it looks good. Tempered glass is gorgeous, and its actually one of the few cases where I like illumination inside the case because the the glass dims it making it not annoying at night.
Sucks that you can't just get the glass doors for the original version. :\

The case price is way more reasonable than I was expecting. It's still more than I would like to pay usually, but I could definitely consider that as a future upgrade. Usually when I decide to sell my parts I sell the case too as people are often more likely to buy a complete PC build minus the GPU. Especially if you're a cable wizard.

Not to incite buyers' remorse or anything, but dare I ask why the $350 4GB Fury instead of a $250 8GB RX 480?

I've been waiting for the aftermarket 480s to come out, but this is probably only $50-$75 more, and frankly, I'm tired of waiting. I'm willing to pay that much more for the increase in performance, and I can only put up with integrated for so long.

I don't! I have a 24pin motherboard and my current PSU is also 24 pin just like usual. But I'm looking at this new corsair unit and it has 28 pins like in the picture.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1512536/sleeving-a-24-pin-to-10-18-pin-atx-cable
Looks like this is wha I should be looking at

It's something Seasonic/Corsair do. You can make a short adapter like in the linked thread if you want to hide the double wires somewhere. Otherwise, the other end fits standard motherboards just fine.

As to why? Probably doubling up on ground to reduce the resistance and thus increasing efficiency? (This is me guessing, could be horribly wrong.)

My current computer:

Current CPU:
Intel Core i5 4670K @ 3.40GHz
Haswell 22nm Technology

Motherboard:
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. MAXIMUS VI GENE (SOCKET 1150)

RAM:
16.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 670MHz (9-9-9-24)

GFX:
GeForce GTX 670

3 SSD - 120/240/240 and 1TB HDD.

650 W PSU

I want to upgrade to GTX 1060 when it comes out.

I also want to upgrade my CPU too, do I need to upgrade my motherboard?

For CPU I am thinking: i5 6600K 4C/4T
