'I really regret my vote now': The Brexit voters who wish they'd voted to remain

Why the hell didn't they require a supermajority for this vote? Leaving EU is a huge undertaking and a drastic change, and should therefore have overwhelming support in order to pass. 52% isn't nearly enough when you've got these kinds of voters who'll basically decide on a whim whatever feels good at the moment.

This sounds like the equivalent of Americans voting Mickey Mouse as a write in candidate and Micky Mouse actually winning.

I personally know of two such idiots. One said he was doing it to "scare the establishment"...

Posted this in the other thread. I think such a big decision needs another vote once we know what the deal is.

Watched a bit of newsnight and it was interesting from what Tony Blairs former chief of staff I think said, any new deals, terms should be up for voting and any new leadership needs to lay out a manifesto and a vote for what the new terms will be which may be our out if the new deal is shit.

Basically we voted against something but not for something so there should be another public vote to decide if we want the new deal, whatever that ends up being.

I wonder if the inaccurate polling which predicted heavy favour for remain had an effect on peoples' mentality. The underdog Leavers are pushed to try their hardest while the presumptive victor sleeps in and stays home because it's rainy outside anyway and we're going to win anyway so what the hell.

I hope not too many voters decide to cast a troll vote in favor of Trump because of the lulz. If enough of them live in the swing states, then who knows if that could make a difference.

I also voted leave but I thought it was like those internet polls where you just vote and nothing happens. I feel really angry now because they should have told us that this was a real poll with actual outcome. But still it doesnt make sense, don't we have a prime minister and a parliament for those decisions? Why us idiots have a say on this? Fuck this shit...

I don't think they care about that and that's where our problems lie.

Yeah, really depressing that the UK chose to be anti immigration and failing to realise that immigration is actually a good thing.

If all the EU members allow it, yes, of course. But I'd imagine it would take a while and UK really has to convince the other member states that it isn't going to start shit again.

Plus the UK might not get the same deal as they did before.

Because that goes against the founding principles of democracy? And more pragmatically, because voters will NOT forget come election time.

But it would be for the country's best interest, no? They'd be sacrificing their jobs for the greater good.

I'm being somewhat not serious but if it truly is just THIS disastrous....then hey...

Which is funny since AFAIK UK has one of the better deals when it comes to EU membership. No Euro, Thatcher renegotiating the EU membership costs (UK pays less, everyone else pays more).

One of the reasons that make me wonder why UK has such powerful anti EU movement.

How fucking stupid can you be to vote opposite of what you actually want to happen just because??

A lot of idiots think of it as hedging their bets so they can sit on a high horse and complain about everything they don't like. They want to stay but would really like to be able to throw out that they voted to leave every time they disagree with a policy. Kinda like what Nader voters did.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
And there was probably people who didn't vote because they thought it wouldn't make a difference and it probably didn't make difference.
What I did find odd today at work was I ask a couple if they was happy with the results.
And they was really happy, why so odd?
Wife was European (Russian I'm guessing by the accent) and the husband was Indian.
I personally have no preference.

I wonder if people who think we should have mandatory voting will rethink that position now.

Mandatory voting is fine, indeed far superior to first past the post, but you need a couple of qualifiers.

1. You dont have to vote, just get your name ticked off the electoral roll list at the booth
2. Preferential voting is a must
3. In referendums, a super or double majority needs to be the threshold for major decisions.

This... can't be real. It's a joke, right?

Is there any chance that the country could be better for leaving at some point in the future? Or can no good come out of this whatsoever?

If truly no good can come out of it then I think that the well being of the country weighs far more than saving face and whatever is necessary should be attempted to fix things. Redo or whatever.

This can't be real, or if it is, not that comon, can it? I'm asking in all honesty as this seems like a bad joke, like the skit on various programs where they ask "random" people on the street really basic questions and get stupid answers back.
