I looked at some YouTube videos on the other side of the prevailing NeoGAF opinion on this topic and the majority of comments are from people who genuinely believe that a) this game will lead to suicide and b) that people on forums like this 'will happily see us killed'. These people are simmering in a stew of complete self-reinforcing disillusion. When they believe the stakes are so high it's no wonder they use such extreme language.
