You guys need more Rogue in your life, it's the typical case of the B team giving all the care and effort that the main team can't be bothered about.

But isnt it just Black Flag? I mean the setting is abit different but from what i saw it was just Black Flag. Same menu's also.
Sure maybe i want to try it but Black Flag not being my favorite AC game and its only on last gen i dont see myself playing it anytime soon really. :)

Not at all, the naval stuff is few and between, better designed too, it's actually more of a platfformer, the story is interesting for a change and it gives more context to the "III" saga. There are zero tailing missions too. I'd say it's the best of the post Ezio AC.

Assassin's Creed 2

Assassin's Creed 1
Assassin's Creed 3

Thats how I'd rank the ones I've played. Haven't played Rogue, Unity, or Syndicate so I'm not sure about those. Syndicate looks like it could be cool though.

AC2 - Defined the series, every game since has tried to capture what made it great and failed.
Brotherhood - Very similar to 2, just not as good.
AC3 - This game had issues, but I loved it, it's the last AC game I really loved.
Revelations - Great ending to Ezios trilogy/great ending to Altair as well.
Black Flag/Syndicate - Black flag is great for it's music, it's world and it's ship battles. It's the worst game in the series when it comes to main missions, most of them are tailing. Syndicate is a step in the right direction after unity but still needs a lot of work. Great game, but boring story and very bare, I'll elaborate below. I like them both equally.
AC1 - Great game that just doesn't hold up too well.
Liberation - For a handheld title, it's not bad aside from the Bayou.
Unity - This game is good looking turd.

Have Rogue but haven't played it yet.

Think of all the gameplay elements and features that have been removed from this series over the years. Sure, it's good that some are gone, but they haven't been replaced by much. Hence why Syndicate is low on my list. It's good, but it's also very simple.

Ambient music
Tombs/Lairs/Catacombs
Mini-games - fanorama/six man morris etc.
PvP
Co-op
Naval features
Carrying multiple weapons
Picking up weapons off the ground
Modern day sequences
Training missions
Glyph puzzles

I haven't played all of them, but of the ones that I have played...

Black Flag- On paper, Black Flag doesn't sound like an Assassin's Creed game. And technically, it's not great as an Assassin's Creed game. There's less of a focus on the actual assassinations and more on the exploration and naval combat, but it turned out to be the one I enjoyed the most. Edward was a refreshingly different protagonist for the series and I'm glad Ubisoft deviated from the "AC formula" of the past few games, and it proved to be a game that works well on its own but also holds a unique place in the series.

Assassin's Creed III-
I know, I know. Don't kill me, GAF. I'm that guy that really enjoyed it. The game has problems but I can't deny that I had a ton of fun with it, and I found myself legitimately interested in the story. I am a huge American history guy so I immediately fell in love with the setting. Pacing issues, a bad protagonist, and a disappointing ending held it back from being my favorite, but I still really enjoyed the game.

Assassin's Creed II- Didn't love it as much as others did, but I played Revelations, III, and Black Flag before this so it didn't have the same impact on me since I was used to the "formula" by that point. That said, Ezio is a great protagonist and I found the setting to be very enjoyable. Considering I played it almost 4 years later, it aged pretty well, and I can definitely understand why it's many peoples' favorite in the series.

Assassin's Creed - I really do like the original Assassin's Creed, and it had a lot of ambitious ideas and concepts. However, the game definitely shows its age and it's just a bit of a mess mechanically. A lot of potential that wouldn't really be fulfilled until later on, but the original game set up a great concept.

Assassin's Creed Revelations
- The one game in the series I tend to forget about, but it's still a pretty decent game. It was more of the same formula we had seen for three games at that point and it didn't introduce anything big, but it still brought a fitting end to the Ezio arc. Not a memorable game, but I still enjoyed it for what it was.

I can't really speak for Unity because I only played around 3 hours before growing tired of it. I guess that speaks for itself. Haven't played Brotherhood or Rogue yet, but both are in my seemingly endless Steam backlog and I'm sure I'll get around to them at some point, Brotherhood in particular. I don't plan on picking up Syndicate anytime soon but possibly later down the road when I can get it cheap.

Black Flag >2 > everything else> 3

Black flag is the only assassin's creed I completed 100%. They really should spin off the game into its own series, because I could understand how fans might not like the focus on the boat.

Shit:
AC3 - worst characters, storytelling, and set pieces in the series (Haytham was cool, though)
Black Flag - total failure as an AC game; little in the way of parkour, assassinations, or story
Unity - hot mess technically with poor historical ties and flat characters

Mediocre:
AC - had great potential, but extraordinarily repetitive and limiting
Rogue - dumb characters, but better gameplay than 3 and BF

Good:
AC2 - great story arc and personalities, but unrefined combat and plodding middle portion
Brotherhood - botched/trite storytelling, but refined AC2 gameplay and a great setting
Revelations - more of the same, but great closure for Altair and Ezio with the best set pieces in the series

Its a good game and a fun pirate game but not a really a good AC game. Also the missions are not that good. 80% is eavesdrop, tail or escort.

First four are great games, second two are interesting games with serious issues, and the last four are mediocre.

5. Assassin's Creed - Unity

6. Assassin's Creed - Revelations

7. Assassin's Creed III

8. Assassin's Creed

9. Assassin's Creed - Liberation

I bought Rogue during the Steam winter sale, but haven't played it yet.

Brotherhood is so fucking good, I was super disappointed to find out Syndicate didn't harken back to some of the concepts established in that game.

In terms of order: Brotherhood>2>Black Flag>Syndicate>Rogue>Liberation>3>1 (Have not played Unity, Revelations or the Chronicles/PSP game [Bloodlines?])

I'm super glad to see most folks also find Brotherhood their favourite, like I'd seriously consider Brotherhood one of the best games of that respective Generation.

If you want more Brotherhood, play Revelations.

Revelations is effectively Brotherhood continued in Istanbul (admittedly a less interesting city than Rome, at least in the games) but with substantially more character development (for both Altair and Ezio). There's only one mandatory Desmond sequence and one mandatory tower defense sequence, so those shouldn't put you off the game (and each is both very easy and very short).

The definitive list:
  1. Assassin's Creed Syndicate
  2. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
  3. Assassin's Creed II
  4. Assassin's Creed III
  5. Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag
  6. Assassin's Creed Revelations
  7. Assassin's Creed
  8. Assassin's Creed Unity
  9. Assassin's Creed Liberation
I haven't played Rogue yet since it's not on PS4 and came out after the PS4 came out. Hopefully it pops up on PS Now or something soon. My top 5 are all pretty good games in my books, Revelations was pretty mixed, the original was boring, Unity was uninspired and broken, and Liberation was just the worst.

Damn straight, TCP you beautiful bastard

Except I think Unity was totally inspyred, possibly the most inspyred game in the series (up there with 1 and 3) but the execution was pretty much fluffed, as badly as 3.

In hindsight I'm not sure how much I like the franchise as a whole. I do wish Ubi would make a kick ass pirate game again though.

Have a lot of people played and enjoyed Rogue?

I really liked Black Flag, and I am thinking of buying the Humble Bundle that comes with Rogue. Is it a lot of the same type of swashbuckling and ship experience? If so, I might give it a try.

Have played everything up to Black Flag, and enjoyed 2>Black Flag>Brotherhood>1>Revelations>3

Very much so. Though unlike Black Flag, it gives off a more official priveteer feel then pirate, since your allied with the Royal Navy/British army, and playing as an Assassin defector/member of the Templar order.

Yea, think of it as an expansion to AC4. It's a lot of fun and well worth playing, especially on PC.

It's a lot like Black Flag but it's more of an assassin's creed game. The story missions involve more assassinations and I thought that the sneaking is done better, though I can't really say in what ways. Story is much better too. I think Rogue is a better game overall but Black Flag has better graphics and that pirate setting puts it a step above. You should definitely get it if you enjoyed Black Flag though, it's very much the same game.

Loved Unity and AC2.

Hated AC3.

Meh'd Black Flag.

I'm about to start Syndicate, so seeing all your praise for it here is getting me hyped!

Yep. Unity should have been pushed back and Rogue should have been the mainline game that year. It's that friggin good. Combines the best elements of 3 and 4 into one reasonable length, not too bloated package.

Shay is a top 3 series protagonist. Up there with Evie and Edward as far as I'm concerned.

In my head Brotherhood is the best but I have no idea how it's aged. Recruiting and calling in assassins was so much fun. I'd be on a remaster in a heartbeat.

nekkid

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
I feel like I'm the only person who really enjoyed 3. It was the setting and exploring the wilderness more than anything - I really enjoyed being in that time period.

1. Revelations - I'm not sure why i enjoyed this the most. I think it was a combination of the setting and also really getting into the multiplayer.

2. Syndicate - Really good all around. Maybe not the best story but the two main assassins are by far my favourite.

3. Black Flag.

4. Unity - Coop multiplayer was cool.

5. Brotherhood

6. II

7. III

8. Rogue - I think i would of enjoyed this a lot more if it came out earlier, but playing after Unity it felt like a big step backwards.

Haven't played Rogue, Syndicate or the spinoffs. I might dislike AC1 more than I remember, because I haven't played it in ages, but I still dig the unique setting and general style that the game was pioneering. Also nice that it wasn't a friggin origin story, and Altair was already an assassin from the beginning. One thing that I got so sick of with III and beyond was how many times I was slowly introduced into the assassin order before the main character finally joins. They did it in II. That should have been enough. How about constructing a slightly different journey for the other characters?

I'm here to join the AC3 defense force. There's literally dozens of us. Dozens!

In all seriousness though let me explain why it's my favourite. Combat was no longer just wait to counter, you had to be aggressive and take enemies out on the move. Plus guns were no longer overpowered, they took so long to reload you would just grab one on the run and throw it away after one shot. Don't get me wrong, the blowdarts made life easy, but they were more of a stealth tool I found. Speaking of, to complete sections of game stealthily was difficult. I understand that this can be frustrating but it's how it should be. Take the forts for example, you could take them without being caught but they weren't going to hold your hand for it, and it wasn't insta-fail if you were caught. This ruined blackflag for me, you could practically see the path you were supposed to take. And then the last of the three pillars of AC, free-running. Now in general it didn't change much, but they did add running through buildings and the trees! Running through the treetops after something felt so amazing, I can't believe they practically dropped it after, it must have just been too time consuming to design.

So that's the game mechanics, now story. I get everyone's complaints in this department, but I felt like everyone ignored the good. Connor was not the most enigmatic character, but he was true to himself. He wasn't there to please us, he was there because this was his story. Yes he was naive about the way the world works, hardly surprising given how different a culture he came from. And little gameplay things, like him showing respect to the animal he'd just killed, were perfect reinforcements. The story finally showed us some of the grey, we weren't just told Templars are bad guys and go kill them. I get the beginning was slow, but it did set up the story, allowed Connor to develop his skills naturally, and meant new players had a tutorial (something important that we often forget that people need). You don't have to be fond of the setting, but you have to respect how well it was used.

We still had collectibles and sidequests, but I found they were the most varied of all I've played (nothing from unity onwards). The homestead was a great little sidequest/basebuilding. They added the naval combat that was so good they based the next game around it. The Desmond story was terrible, but at least we got to use some of these skills he'd supposedly been learning for so long.

I just feel people didn't give it the chance it deserved.

I've played 4 of them and never finished one. I am liking Syndicate at the moment so maybe this one will break the streak.

Oh and the pirate one was alright. If I didn't have 6 other games to play is go back to it maybe.
