I don't see how a contemporary setting, for example, would give this game much better odds. If most of the game is set in jungles and tombs then it shouldn't matter when the story takes place.
I disagree. In 2024 there are no remote or undiscovered tombs anymore. It would be too unrealistic.

Except it's one of the main reason Xbox is going 3rd party and their products are barely selling anymore.

Unless you want to hang onto review scores, which are rather meaningless.
wait wait wait, this is Machinegames from Zenimax, not a MS studio mismanaged to hell and back, the game might no be perfect, but Xbox games mediocrity is too much don't you think, considering they were absorbed in the purchase and kept working as usual, it's not like MS bought a shell with the name and logo of the studio 🤷‍♂️

Indy is irrelevant in this day and age, the last movie sealed the fate of the franchise considering H.Ford is like 80 now and there is no way he'll be cast for the role again or get replaced like Disney tried with the actor for that Solo movie that flopped hard

That was 2020 Microsoft, nowadays they absolutely would prefer if you bought it.

No they wouldn’t. Subscription base is preferred over all else, they would rather a monthly subscription to windows if they could like Office & Azure.

I assume a target subscription base of 50,000,000 x $20 a month is where they would want to be. Release gamepass on PS5 and they’ll get there.

Game debuted at #8 most played on Xbox, only 4 spots below Marvel's Rivals (similar launch window). All but 2 games ahead of it are F2P. That's a pretty good result.

Sure, but I don't think MS acquisitions were elevating them from mediocrity to begin with (Zenimax has some popular games, but I don't think they're setting a high standard. Certainly not Elder Scrolls.)

Except ABK. Which is why they bought ABK as a "hail mary" attempt.

The game just comes across as bland and mediocre. The only real saving grace is the lighting.

It's a pattern with Xbox output. Everything just misses the mark.

I might have to abandon the game. Something is very wrong with this thing. Day one I was getting a locked 60fps on my setup with everything maxed out except path tracing. A couple days later I started the game and for some reason the framerate drops into the 40s in the same areas I was seeing locked framerates. I tried dropping settings, even putting everything to their lowest settings and dropping resolution down to 720p. That somehow made the fps drop into the 30s and it would pop back up when I reverted the settings. This morning, I figured I'd try a few more things and once again to my surprise the game was running butter smooth for a few hours, I stopped playing for a bit and reopened this afternoon to find the game dropping consistently into the 40s again. I've never seen this kind of thing before, none of the other games I tried are having any issues like this so I doubt it's a hardware issue.

It's unfortunate as I am enjoying the game.

Why should anyone purchase a game on gamepass??
A very small percentage of the total addressable market has Game Pass. And the game isn't available on all tiers of Game Pass day one. It's only available on GPU and PC Game Pass.

So it's not like everybody from that TAM is getting the game. If the sales are low, that means that the majority are opting not to buy/play the game.

Any indications on how well this game is doing? I read elsewhere that achievement unlocks were quite low
On Xbox app, its showing in most popular list. That usually doesn’t happen for most games. All games in that list have fixed spots.

Not sure what nos its doing.

Indiana Jones can probably be finished in a week, so why wouldn't you get it on game pass.
And this here is the exact issue with many gamers today. A fantastic single player game and yet not many people will purchase it cause it’s “only long enough to last a week so rent it on Gamepass”…. Fucking hell I really hate what Microsoft have done to gamers today. Indiana Jones is a brilliant single player game. People, buy the fucking game and show Microsoft this is more of what we want! Stop renting these fucking games and BUY THEM!

Honestly, Microsoft has only done this to Xbox gamers. If this was on PS5 right now, people would buy it.

It's moreso how Microsoft have trained their userbase to consume content. A Netflix style buffet of games was always going to devalue their software. Despite Sony dipping their toes in live service games a few too many times this gen, their bread and butter is still single player( Nintendo too of course), and not serving them on a platter day and date amongst a sea of other games maintains the perception of value and encourages purchasing instead of breeding the 'eh, I'll wait till its on gamepass' mindset.

If this was on PS5 right now with the word of mouth it's getting, it would be getting good sales and you wouldn't be hearing so much 'Indiana Jones is irrelevant today' quotes. It's the kind of game ripe to exist on Sony's platform with their other great single player experiences.

Most certainly low. Games don't sell on Xbox anymore and Indy won't change that. I don't think they'll see an increase in GP subs either.
I'm actually flabbergasted that Microsoft hasn't been more aggressive with console discounts this holiday. Then again, maybe they truly have concluded fuck it all. The Series X should have had an Indiana Jones special edition console, promoting Indy without the stupidity of announcing the PS5 version months before release.

Their marketing this entire generation has been god awful. Even the Indiana Jones themed controller was out behind some sweepstakes bullshit instead of a wide release. People with fucking marketing degrees came up with this bullshit.

I don't get it either. Even if they don't care about console sales anymore (which they obviously don't), why hurt your own chances like this?

How many of these 1st person immersive sims does Bethesda need to have flop before they realise there's no big market for them, even with stellar reviews.

They're not selling anyway, sales won't change much.
As far as compared to Sony, yeah that ship has long sailed. But they've deliberately sabotaged their console business. It has to be deliberate because the alternative is woeful incompetence which should have resulted in some heads rolling.

Yet they are saying another generation of Xbox is coming?! To sell to who? To what end? Everything about their messaging is antithetical to the idea that they are still in the business of selling hardware.

I think they're just easing their hardcore fanbase into the exit of Xbox as a platform-holder.
Just like how they said "only 4 games".

So, if your platform is dead anyway, might as well keep prices high to maximize revenue from the little bit of sales you have left.
They're fucked either way.

But over half of all Xbox owners booted into CoD on the first week of release so did it sell millions of physical units or are ultimate game subscriptions more popular than you like to admit.

I do wonder what the long term effect will be, because this rip the bandaid off approach is killing consumer confidence. Not that any of these corporations are to be trusted, but I mostly know what I'm getting from Sony and Nintendo( not that I trust them either as for-profit entities).

The increase would’ve come with COD. Yet it didn’t. Gamepass has failed. We keep hearing that once these games arrive Gamepass will thrive. Gamers have spoken loud enough- we don’t want this shit in gaming. Look at what it’s done to films. To the music industry. Get it the fuck out of gaming for fucks sake.

I like your new tag.

Btw since you’re so triggered i tell you what. Up the ante to $1000 for charity of my choice until next October.

One is not fit to be an Xbox customer if this stuff shakes their confidence in brand.

New consoles are coming. And they will sell well. Gamers like to buy them. Regardless of whatever gets written on forums.
The Xbox console market has fallen off a cliff. What evidence is there that another round of systems sells well, whatever that phrase means? We don't know what Microsofts internal metrics are for hardware sales, but I doubt the line is trending in the direction they want it to and nothing is really happening to hype up the idea of a next gen Xbox.

It will sell cause of new shiny toy effect. Also good specs at launch.

Later in generation, its sales will fall off due to competition from pc. Just like now.

You need to just leave indy threads alone tbh. Because you are claiming the game is mediocre but it's far from it. Its easily as good and better imo as many other publishers output.

You are projecting youre insecurities and hopes and dreams but they are not reality.

Such a shame because if this wasn't an Ms studio or was on ps day one you probably wouldn't even sniff at it it'll it want your cup of tea.
You don't see how that is a problem for MS if most people think this way?
It's ms own creation. I would worry about humanity if they just outright bought a game and a subscription. The selling point for Xbox and gamepass is day one games. That's why you subscribe. It's for then to worry about the rest.

Wow. Dude actually said "one is not fit to be an Xbox customer"

I refuse to believe that's a legitimate thought. Good bait bro.
