I think I’m near the end now. Iv enjoyed it so far. Nice change of pace from cod. I can’t help but think that if you did a speed run and skipped cutscenes, there wouldn’t be too much there.
But who would enjoy a game played like that? I’m taking my time, soaking it in, and I’m still only in the Vatican. Seems like I’ve been playing it for hours already, and I’m still loving it. Pacing seems perfect!

Will be plenty long enough without overstaying its welcome.

A refreshing change!

Tears of Nintendo
On Xbox I've only noticed it here and there and it's not much longer than a second or two. Very infrequent in the first two zones but I've only really noticed it more in the third big zone.
The thing is, it shouldn't be happening at all and especially during story cutscenes. I think it's somehow related to the streaming system and engine issues, cuz I can't explain it otherwise. If there were noticeable frame drops and frametime spikes, it could indicate that maybe hardware is the problem, but nope, both lines are perfectly smooth. Also, the in-game frame limiter is trash, Riva's frame limiter is better by a country mile.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I just looked at the achievement list and there's one for getting all the journal entries.

Holy shit this game has a few hundred of those.

This is gonna be a long 100% completion.

At least from what I've read, you are able to continue playing after credits, so there's that.

The third big area is definitely my least favorite. Feel like the Vatican should have been towards the end having played the majority of areas. This game is still primarily stealth for me. Hasn't changed a bit no matter what area. The combat is just mediocre and not fun, imo. I enjoy the tombs, the puzzles, the disguises and all the sneaking.....that stuff is really great.

That's good. That will be helpful for completionists so they can go back to specific areas and pick up what they missed.

Finished the main story. Decent and enjoyed it but no desire to play it again or go back collecting things. I move on to other games now.

Crazy that this got dicked out of the Keighley awards

Totally could've seen them try and get Harrison and Troy up on stage
at once to play off of each other (and ensure maximum awkwardness and embarrassment by proxy).

I mean, they pulled Pacino out of bed for an appearance. It wouldn't be that much of a stretch for an appearance by Ford.

Called it fuckers :messenger_sunglasses: ✌️

So i just finished the story and while i love the game the finale, especially the last level was really disappointing imho.
I expected at least one last big puzzle set piece or some bombast action but all we get is a very small area and then basically the end cinematic with a disappointing "boss fight".
Looking forward to the DLCs, how's that gonna work on gamepass though if you haven't bought the game?
Can you even buy the DLC without buying the main game?

I haven't reached it myself, but I've read multiple places say that there's one hard post-story puzzle that has some kind of post-game teaser or something.

Yeah, DLC absolutely works for game pass games.

Just downloaded this using a GP Ultimate code i got with my 8bitdo purchase.

The game is quite good looking. Will probably play more tomorrow.
Alright I've been skeptical in the build-up to this game, but so far I'm really enjoying the experience, far more than I thought I would. I might owe some people some apologies by the end of this game.

Just got to Italy, and one thing that's really striking is how many ways there are to get past guards or get into certain areas. Like I got to the point where you get the guardhouse key, took out like 3 guards and started exploring the immediate area for collectibles.. Only to see that there was a route far up above that you can get up to using the whip and would likely be able to zip through the area without attracting too much attention. Not to mention multiple entry points into almost every room or crevice I see!

The other thing is this game is remarkably stunning in terms of looks and very well-acted. You can see the attention to detail in so many things around you.

The combat and stealth takedowns is something I'm struggling to get used to, like I'd sneak up behind a guard with a club, ready to take them down, press RT, and Indy would just hit them normally? Am I getting something wrong here?

I've noticed this as well. Sometimes you get a cool tool specific take-down, sometimes its basically just a regular hit. Not sure if it's tied to the guard having something like a helmet, noticing you right before you strike, or being crouched versus standing and charging RT. Fortunately the game (so far for me) isn't that punishing of a botched take-down to where it would immediately lead to my demise. That there are no "you were spotted...fade to black and ty again" moments is a HUGE plus for me in this game, you just gotta roll with mistakes and sometimes you win :p

Yeah that's what I've been doing to get by, just keep tapping those trigger buttons and punch them the fuck out.

Will probably develop more mastery over the combat but this will suffice for now.

I haven’t missed any.

Maybe cause I am always crouched and get close to the guards.

If I am walking, they notice me before I take a hit.

Just rolled credits. 33 hours. Overall, a great Indy game. Solid 8/10 for me. For reasons I stated previously.

On the story....

It was really just a retelling of Raiders of Lost Ark. That isn't to say it was bad. It was actually quite good but couldn't help notice the similarities as I progressed. Especially the final scene. Enjoyable overall, but not very original.

I've given it five hours and given up

Story great, visually great, voice acting is incredible.

Action is garbage, puzzles for babies, stealth is atrocious.

I give them credit for trying something interesting, but the execution was extremely lacking.

Troy as Indie though .... Wow

I'd love to get this game for Series X, but $100 CAD for a digital game is a no go. I can buy it physical, but the resale value on Xbox games is near-zero, so I may as well buy digital.

Need a sale price, ASAP.

Why not just get Game Pass for a month?
Principles. Buying digital is bad enough, but at least I can still play the game "forever". I'm not paying $28 CAD for one month to rent a game.

I'll probably give in and buy the physical disc from the local shop. I had planned to play Cyberpunk over the holiday, but this seems more my type of game.

Fair enough. Personally, I don't think twice about "renting" games because in the vast majority of them I'll play them once and never again.

Sometimes the takedown animation will handle it, but other times it won't. Just not consistent, unfortunately.

The Vatican was, by far, my favorite part of the game. Think they should have saved that for last. But you might like the later areas more than I did.

the combat does feel shoe horned in, probably a lot of copy paste code, at least it feels that way, especially the way you can fool ai and how they detect you, does not seem any kind of step forward in that regard.

Exactly. 95% of games are play once and done, so Gamepass is great for that.

Games not on Gamepass that I want get bought day 1.

Rent some, buy some - it works for me.

My days of wanting a huge collection of games that I know I’ll never play again are long gone!

Combat is varied enough to keep it interesting for me. It doesn’t seem shoe horned at all.

Loads of comedy pick up items to hit throw at/hit folk with, left/right punches, power punches, blocks, parries, pushes, dodging, whips, whip pulls, grabs AND guns (both shooting and bashing skulls in using the butt).

You can mash buttons all you want, but I like to mix it up and look good.

Don’t get me wrong, it couldn’t carry a game, but it’s competent enough for the skirmishes that occur when you get fed up with the stealth.

Interesting. I'm not a fan of the stealth in this, but i am a fan of the improvisational combat.

Ah....ok. Just a preference thing. I tried to stealth my way through most areas. Finding alternate routes was my favorite part of avoiding combat. I liked the disguises as well. Think I would have enjoyed the combat more in third person, but that's also just a me thing.

I originally planned to wait for sale on this. But I burned through like 4 games in 2 weeks and cleared out some of my backlog faster than I planned so I decided to bunker down and buy it. I heard it compared to dishonored and I was in the mood for that type of game. I'm enjoying it so far, but one major gripe that I don't recall any of the 4 or 5 video reviews I watched mention.

The checkpoint system in this is ungodly terrible. I'm at the Vatican, so I'm still quite early in and I want to take my time with this one, so I'm going through slowly. And I'm navigating this area and I noticed on the pause screen it says last checkpoint 23 minutes ago. And I thought yeah there must be a more elaborate system, there's no way if I die it'll actually start me that far back. And I got ambushed by a bunch of guards and died and sure enough it did. Fucking lame, man. At least give a manual save option or auto save every few minutes so you don't have to do a bunch of shit over again. Very odd I didn't see any reviewers complain about this. Checkpoint frequency is huge to me in games as someone who has no tolerance for having to do the same shit you just did all over again. Have respect for my time.

That's kind of crazy as my revert to checkpoint always seems like it is under five minutes. As long as you are grabbing collectables and out of combat, it should constantly be saving.

Maybe try playing the game
Finished it.

How far are you?

You go to at least 6, 7 different parts of the world. Definitely not lacking in areas.

Some more Series X screens, just generic shots, will save more spoiler moments for later when more people have played.

There's a lot of fantastic shit in the game.
The last area was extremely underwhelming. There are like 3 major areas in the game. Just one more would have made a huge difference and taken the score past 90 for sure. Not really satisfied with the ending and felt like they wrapped it up too quickly.

AAAaghh ... this is so fucking infuriating.

I am missing only *ONE* collectible to reach 100%.

But this collectible is not triggering. I'm on the spot on the map with the camera icon but nothing to snap.

I have a feeling this is something I left in the little Hotel area you visit before visiting the third zone proper, but there's no way to revisit it, or at least I can't find it.

Anyone know how to get back to that area?

Credits rolled, after ~33 hours. I've got a bunch of notes and artifacts left to find which I'm not gagging to do but will dip into from time to time.

I'd give the game a 9/10. The story was, if anything, not just good for a game, but right up there with the original films. Indy was more Indy than he was in the last two 'films', Gina was a great sidekick, Voss was probably the best of ALL Indy badguys.

It's not without some valid criticism but what isn't. Brilliant.

Got to the Vatican and played a total of 5+ hrs now. This is soooo much more Riddick-like than anything MG did before. I mean, there's hubs in Wolfenstein games that matter, and especially in the second one where you just relax, talk to you people, do some quests for them etc., but here it's basically all you do for the most part, talking to people, finding and reading a ton of notes, look for clues, there's barely any set pieces like in Uncharted or recent Tomb Raider games.... It's like they included everything which was cut from the movies scripts to save time, improve pacing, make them less boring and more exciting to watch, and included all of it into the game.

Like, you won't see Indiana running at the rooftops and scaffoldings to search for cats and take their pictures, or running around searching for medicine for a sister from the monastery to then buy books to improve your skills and such. Strangely enough, the game also reminds me of Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness which was waaaaay more of a slow adventure game and much less of a Tomb Raider we used to play, but in a very bad way. Now, when it comes to Indiana...

I mean, I like how different it is from Tomb Raider even, which also had side quests and stuff in the last two games and Shadow especially, but they were far more fast paced and action oriented, Shadow even more so was focused on puzzles and stuff which I liked far more than what was in Rise. Uh, Idk, I don't think Indiana is going to be for everyone and especially if you haven't played Riddick games and they're not one of your old time favorite games cuz,... well, you can fight nazies, kick their ass and such and there's plenty of ways you can do that, but it's not an action game at it's core I don't think and more stealth oriented.

Idk, maybe after Vatican the game opens up and be more exciting in terms of gameplay and what you do, but Vatican is going to be a very slow burn, unless you won't be exploring much and just B-line the main story. Visually though the game looks great, not the best looking game out there, but it's really good if you have the hardware to run it maxed out with some .cfg tweaks. RT is not perfect and there's no RT local shadows or RT cascades, a lot of lights don't cast dynamic shadow like in other games with RT, which I think was made on purpose and force you to buy 4090 to play with PT.

Anyway, I'll continue playing it to see what else it has to offer, but even right now I can say that it is easily the best Indiana game ever and the best thing that has happened to this IP since The Last Crusade.

I would go one step further and say that this is probably top-5 best licensed property games of all time, which (for me) includes the likes of Arkham Asylum, Chronicles of Riddick, Knights of the Old Republic and Goldeneye.
