I would go one step further and say that this is probably top-5 best licensed property games of all time, which (for me) includes the likes of Arkham Asylum, Chronicles of Riddick, Knights of the Old Republic and Goldeneye.

Also, the Vatican is SO PACKED with stuff it's unbelievable. At first you look at the map and think - well. that's not that big and then it hits you like a train when you start exploring. It's so much like Dishonored or Deus Ex in terms of level design, there are so many ways you can get into where you need to go, so much verticality and hidden stuff everywhere, locked doors you need to find the keys for, locked doors you can only unlock from the other side, various puzzles etc.

Now, this being good and all in terms of how well it's made, written and such, I think it's just kills pacing at the beginning of the game and you're spending way too much time doing all this shit and I think it could've been much better if some of this stuff got unlocked gradually overtime after you do some mission and go back, but as it is now, there's just too much of it and literally nothing interesting story-wise is happening.

Opened a support ticket with Bethesda for the collectible issue I'm having. A bit of a disappointing book-end to one of the best games of the year.

I hope it gets sorted out soon, I'm literally at 99.9% completion with just the one thing left.

The takedown only happens if indy raises the weapon, if that doesn't happen then you're not in takedown position.

Yep, you can unlock skill later that let you do melee take downs too, but at the start, you're only limited to weapon based takedowns.

Also, a useful PSA for people doing the collectible mopping, something I learned via trial and error.

If you go back to a previous area to collect something, after collecting, don't immediately jump back to the current story location. Walk around a bit first and let an auto save trigger (The hat on the top right), sometimes it doesn't register a collectible if you immediately change location after picking it up. But once the game auto saves, it registers.

The greatest compliment I can pay this game is it’s made me want to go back and watch the trilogy again, and reminded me why Indy is one of my favourite characters. Quite an achievement, given how bad first Spielberg and then Disney have tried to destroy him with the last two films.

Still in The Vatican after several hours.

The confessional cutscene made me genuinely laugh out loud. Marvellous.

I just finished vatican. What a great game. Really liking it and indeed it does feel like riddick in some parts.
I love hove stupid the combat is. Your fists are like lightning strikes. so much fun!
Graphics are great too. Even without PT.

One thing... textures pool on high, everything else maxed out, 4k, balanced dlss... and I get these 10-15 seconds long pauses. It's really annoying. Mostly during cutscenes.
I don't get it what kind of programming is that. 10gb vram is not that bad, game runs 80fps for me... so instead of handling it some better way, they freeze the game when it overflows

Finished this last night. I loved this game, and the story was great and I liked how it went back to Hebrew mythology and apocrypha.

I do think the end felt a bit rushed and lacking in denouement and I have a theory that they changed it later in development.

The Ziggurat of Ur, where the last stage takes place, is believed by many to be the site the Tower of Babel story is based on. Which feels like the logical culmination of the story which references the Adamic language and all that. But they never mention that at all. I wonder if they swapped in the Ark angle later.

I'm enjoying it a lot but if I had to change something it would be just to hold the the button for context actions and not have to push the a direction at the end. It's pointless and just annoying.

Use medium with 10gb vram. I use low on my 8gb, but sometimes when i start the game it runs at 40 fps. I need to change DLSS to TAA and back to DLSS fix it. Weird issue

6 hours in and I'm still running around the Vatican taking pictures and looking for stuff. Is the rest of the game a big maze like this?
I still have a side quest or 2 that just has me running all over the place.
My RTX 4070 seems to be doing ok with the Path Tracing But I have to drop all the way to 30FPS. I've set almost everything to high but if I get anywhere over the 12GB memory it will sometimes crash in weird places, usually during fist fights.
It's kind of funny that I can stir up the hive shooting red explosive barrels, get mauled by a dog and shot, but if I pick up my hat, I get a 'second wind'. :)
I've gotten where it's best to just sneak my way past problem spots but it's taking a lot of climbing around.

Finished the story. The only game this year I would give 10 out of 10. Would I love it just as much if it was an original IP? Probably not but that’s the thing about it: it understands Indy and knows exactly what to do to pull the right strings. The tomb exploring in the last big area is just so much more fun and exciting than what we have experienced in games like Tomb Raider or Uncharted.

A masterpiece.

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned much here is just how blazing fast the game loads. The title screen already immediately loads you into the last place you saved at.

Fast travel in the same map is instant but also fast travel to completely other locations in the world, the screen goes black and then comes back in 1 to 2 seconds without any loading prompts.

ID Tech is such a wonderful engine.

I finally had the time to boot this up and I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. I still wish there was a third person view option but I'm getting used to the first person the more I play.

I was also conflicted about which view it should use earlier.

After playing this for some 10 hrs, I understand this game was possible only in first person. Fist fighting, using camera, handling artefacts, they all work better in first person.

If game was using a ton of whip, especially for fighting enemies, then 3rd person would be a better choice.

You really start to feel the claustrophobia like you might not find your way out. Then at the very end you have to scale like 5 walls just straight upward to get out. Its all so deliberately done to give that feeling

Exploring the Vatican. There really is nothing else out there that replaces this. No one is making games that feel this way, with this much slow and deliberately careful exploration. Really does remind me of Forgotten City. Game is fantastic.
Yeah it’s brilliant in so many ways, my GOTY right now, what an ending of the year. Astro Bot already stomped past everything else and then came Stalker 2 and did the same and I really thought it couldn’t be topped. Then came Indiana Jones. I expected a lot being a big Indy fan but it’s better than expected. Doesn’t happen often. The map layout is among the best I can remember outside of Metroidvanias, it’s so carefully planned, areas are closed off and then opened and it’s vertical and there are alternate routes and it’s open while still being so story-focused. Superb. 👌

Just arrived in the third area. Probably missed collectibles in the two areas before so I hope i can go back and explore.

Still loving it.

You can, but there's an issue that currently there's no way to get back to the little hotel chapter you have before you enter the third open world zone proper, if you missed any collectible there, you're stuck for now.

I'm in the same issue right now. Completion progress is 99.9% with only one thing missing there and I can't get back to it.

Hope they patch in a way to get back there, as you can go back to every other location to mop up collectibles.

Pop-in is hideous in the last area tho. Otherwise the engine is really good

Gaaaadayam this game is a looker..

Sitting here on a lazy Sunday morning watching Gafs favourite Alex talk about the full RT experience on Indy and jesus if those side by sides aren't proof enough that Ray Tracing adds an absolute shit ton to the visuals and unfortunately highlights that consoles just simply cannot compete with that high end PC experience, this game has gotta be contender for best visuals, those interior Vatican shots are exactly how I remember the Vatican, it all looks stunning... Ffs eyeing my PS5 here with contempt and thinking about a PC now lol

RTGI brings so much to a games visuals, it really does make the lighting, shadows and materials shine, pity it's sooo bloody power hungry

The game waning letting me pick up a medicine bottle, so I rolled back my save like an hour.
When I realized what I had done, I was pretty pissed.

I've noticed this as well. Sometimes you get a cool tool specific take-down, sometimes its basically just a regular hit. Not sure if it's tied to the guard having something like a helmet, noticing you right before you strike, or being crouched versus standing and charging RT. Fortunately the game (so far for me) isn't that punishing of a botched take-down to where it would immediately lead to my demise. That there are no "you were spotted...fade to black and ty again" moments is a HUGE plus for me in this game, you just gotta roll with mistakes and sometimes you win :p

As long as you’re crouched and close enough to the enemy, the reticle changes to a small dot and you see Indy’s arms raise slightly. That’s how you know it’ll be a one hit stealth take down.

Done!

The final open area is amazing, but as it's often the case it's the least polished one, with godawful pop-in and lingering map markets / indicators. Sticking like a sore thumb as the first 75% of the campaign is just spotless, bugless and screams Sony target polish. No progression blockers whatsoever, smooth sail to 100%.

The finale made no sense tho. The story is very uh,... Indiana Jones'y, bronze age myths are fact type of way, but it 100% works by being delightfully campy and light-hearted, especially the over the top, cartoony violence of combat.
AI is piss easy to outsmart in stealth, and I was halfway through Giza when I started using my underpowered, pointless guns for shits and giggles, why bother when your haymaker is a bazooka. It's just more fun to waltz in and wreck shit up, very easy game, even on hard. Indiana Jones is an apex gladiator GOAT boxing lightweight world champion and can take more bullets than Tony Todd's character, RIP what an awesome actor.

The game is carried by simply INCREDIBLE level design, and fun beating nazis to a pulp especially if you remember not to sleep on the whip. Toddler-level difficulty on 90% of puzzles (except the very last one holy shit) but their function is mostly support for exploration and vibe so I didn't mind at all.

Loved my time with it. I only played The New Colossus, but this may be the best Machine Games game to date.

You are all convincing me to buy this. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

It's pretty expensive for a PC game though. On day one most games are around 40-45 euro on key sites. This one is around 55 euro.

But I know for sure that this game is right up my alley given all your impressions. If anyone knows how it runs with full PT on a 4070 Ti (12GB VRAM, 1080p) let me know.

Finished it. What an amazing game. Definitely in my top 3 this year with Rebirth and SH2. Still think Vatican is the high point of the game, but the rest was great too. Troy did an amazing job, the lady sidekick wasnt annoying and was well written imo. Great story, great adventure, amazing performances especially Indy and Voss. Bravo Machine Games, i hope we'll see more Indy games from them and i hope they will get the sales it deserves when the PS version launches

I noticed that there is a horizontal line exactly in the middle of the screen that looks like when a game is screen tearing. Its hard to notice, but once you do you cant unsee it. Is that a bug?

Just stare at the middle white point and move the camera slowly up and down while looking at a close object. Its the easiest way to notice it.

Holy shit, just done Himalayas and Shanghai. Fuck me, Shanghai was everything I dream a battlefield game will be. Really picked up, until now I've been thinking it's a solid 7.5 but it's elevated itself.

Gitezh I was really not a fan of. Too much running across expanses of floor

Just got to the and love the game!
himalayas
The 2nd location was a bit chaotic and I ignored the collectathon but I did finished the 2-3 side quests and perhaps missed some because they unlock in unpredictable ways.
But the nazis are so fun to fight with and the cutscenes are amazing.
Gina is perfect fit for indiana girl and she looks and acts great. I love what they did to her eyes. She is genuinely attractive.
Even the
lesbian girl is quite good looking and this is woke done fine. She is not a main character and not manly ugly monster
very surprised with this

Refunded the Game Pass month and bought the game on Steam instead (via GMG so it was only 58EUR). The Xbox app is just trash on PC; sluggish, unresponsive, slow, lacks basic features such start parameters for games, patch notes and it's just utterly unreliable. I don't know how often the window didn't close despite me clicking on exit on the symbol in the tray bar; just today I had to force-close it two times via task manager.

Anyways, probably have to play the first level again unless save games are somehow compatible between GamePass and Steam version. But I've thoroughly enjoyed it and will play that first part again. This time without path tracing but with higher texture settings, DLAA and 60fps. First time was with 40fps, DLSS balanced and full ray tracing.

The attention to detail, the music, the visuals, the collectables, the combat and environmental interactivity (I love when things break in games when objects hit other objects)... it's just brilliant!

I love the mix of larger open worlds and the smaller set piece levels that link them.

And the tombs, so many tombs.

Currently on the ship in the Himalayas. Superb location. Nice snow and ice effects, the frozen bodies everywhere. Tomb raider has done this before though! 😀 Talk about full circle!

That's Indiana on the left.

On the right, that's Junior. 😝

I stopped playing it just a few hours in, same as I did with Stalker 2, because I'm in the middle of trying to kill some backlog.

But I'm treating myself to the Original Trilogy in 4K HDR now and let me tell you, it still holds all the magic it did more than 30 years ago when I first watched it as a kid.

And so does the game. The exact same feeling of dark, wonderful mystery and adventure...

Reviewers and assorted dumbfucks complaining about this game can go right on and suck my Great Circle. 😘
