Indiana Jones is selling more on PS5 than Xbox/Steam

The franchise just doesn't have the appeal they thought it did back when it was approved. Or maybe it's the direction they took. Glowing reviews aside, I can't help but feel that if the execution was more inspired by uncharted it could have been a lot more successful.
Xbox output is just mediocre. The IP doesn't even matter.

Now that they are releasing on Playstation, it's becoming apparent how low the bar actually is on Xbox and how much GP is destroying the brand.

117.2K sales in a week on a platform with ~70 million units sold, for a game based on a gargantuan IP, that reviewed well with both critics and players, has won several awards and was nominated for others?

First person tho, innit.

Indiana Jones ain't what it used to be, but I maintain that the game would have been much more appealing to a larger number of gamers if it had been in third person.

Yeah. They limited themselves by going with a Dev that only does fp games. It's still a relevant and viable ip. In the right hands it should and could have been made to rival tomb raider and uncharted. Instead, the games it inspired are still the best in the genre.

I would have been all over this day 0 if it were third person. Now it's on a backburner for a deep, deep sale.

It's similar to Dishonored 1/2, Prey as well. People seem to not like sim type games

I finished it on PC and would probably have double dipped on PS to platinum it, but......nah

Sort of the same boat here except Xbox/Game Pass rather than PC. Three achievements short of 1000, that I can't get because the cogwheel puzzle was bugged and I didn't feel like starting a whole new game just to navigate around that bug. I enjoyed it enough that I would play it again on PS, but not at full price. I figure I'll pick it up on PS this fall when it's in Black Friday sales.

I thought it sold over 2 million on PS5?
Maybe by now, but the only official numbers are 1+M back in august, 4 months after release:

Still, 2M sales after a year isn't "taking off".

Xbox output doesn't have much pull outside of the Xbox eco-system.

Maybe Forza will do better at least.

Doesn't matter how you slice it, those are abysmal numbers, almost to the point where I have a hard time believing them without disclosing all his sources.

zero advertising - they launched it too late

I expect forza horizon to sell 3-5 million on ps5. Gran turismo crowd, who are ps5 only, would probably be keen to try it.

No gamepass on PS, not surprising. Glad to see more people being able to play this. I love Machine Games, and was presently surprised with this game ( I wasn't too high on it pre-release.

Yes, PlayStation executives and studio heads were right to close up the Uncharted IP, one of their most successful and more important franchise (specialy during the PS3 hard times), with Uncharted 4. The masterpiece Uncharted movie was just the icing on the cake.

Game got raving reviews. Avowed reviewed well. FH5 reviewed well. Hi Fi Rush reviewed well. Most are goty caliber titles. Doom coming next month. To say that output is mediocre is outright fanboy nonsense

Reviews are just opinions though.

Indy looked like a dud from the reveal.

Well, these are late ports. But PS5, like everything else, is all about Fortnite, COD, Marvel Rivals, Madden, NBA 2K etc... Even Astrobot sells are underwhelming and FF Rebirth sells were disappointing

I think the staggered release and launching in an absolutely stacked month hampered this games sales. MS might have to abandon the staggered release for anything they plan on going multiplat.

I hope it performs well enough to earn a sequel. I'm 80% done according to that little PS5 widget and while the game is a solid 8/10 for me, I'm just trying to finish it as fast as I can to get to Oblivion, Forza, Days Gone, and Doom in a few weeks.

Gamepass kills sales. This is known

Now imagine how many total sold on Xbox. Got to be in the gutter

Astro Bot sold ~2.3+M copies in half the time of SoT, which is decent.

But that's a bit more than 117K, don't you think?

That doesn't make any sense. That's like saying Astrobot is mediocre despite winning GOTY since reviews are just "opinions"
Astro Bot is a glorified tech demo. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Astrobot sells are underwhelming? It was made on a sub $40 Million budget. And sold 1.5 million in 2 months at $60.

Gamepass was never sustainable. PS5 sales is only a bandaid. Eventually gmepass will have to go. Without console subs to prop it up next gen, I don't know what MS is gonna do. They have a lot riding on the next console selling well, so it better not be $1,200 dollars or something....methinks they should not be adding steam to the next xbox at this point.

Everybody thinks there is some magic thing we don't know that is making gamepass be sustainable and make good business sense, but probably not. It's only vagaries and hope for a change in wind that will blow Microsoft's way. It is as we see. It can only be propped up for so long. It will have X number of quarters more to show results or they will re-evaluate. You think I'm full of shit but this isn't sustainable. MS is a running joke and that will not last. Something's gotta give.

1.5 million seems underwhelming for a platform with 65milliom-70million and won GOTY by 90% of all outlets imo.

Indy was made by a small team as well
Astrobot is an evergreen title that will be a new game to every new PS5 purchaser. It's sales are not done yet. By the time they are I think you will be singing a different tune. Astro has got legs.

I don't think your Astrobot numbers are accurate.

Ok?
Same source as the one in OP:

Doesn't matter if you question Astro Bot sales though.
Indy clearly is a flop.

117K copies..

I'm happy it wasn't inspired. I'm not interested in anymore buddy cop, that-just-happened style 30 minute walky talky quip fest. This game was the Chronicle's of Riddick 2 we never got

It's true and PS5 fans don't need to worry. MS needs every extra red cent they can squeeze out of these flops to keep gamepass running.

I don't know wtf they are going to do next gen. Market has soured on them, they are also the "US" console which is probably unpopular more now than before the trade war, and also apparently they are adding steam to the console so the MS store may not be the platform of choice by many users. It may be Steam's next console too.

I don't know wtf they are going to do but they are not in a good spot right now. They also aren't gonna change their strategy back easily, since they ripped the heart out of their fanboys with the exclusive sharing.

Proper fucked if you ask me, but what do I know. If this is how bad Indiana Jones did imaging South of Midnight. I think Avowed actually had a mild fandom so I bet it did better than those 2. Low effort Oblivion reskin can rake in billions more in cash vs this full scale perfect indiana jones game, so I guess they better start remastering fallout 3 and new vegas at the same time. That would be my plan, lol.
