Indiana Jones is selling more on PS5 than Xbox/Steam

The 'Xbox' caption is not in the original image, so my question still stands. I know that the blue camp likes to fabricate data like you did here, but I am interested in facts.
So this isn't even about Xbox, they can't take the word out of their mouths and the I Hate Game Pass Brigade flock like flies to shit.

Astrobot is an evergreen title that will be a new game to every new PS5 purchaser. It's sales are not done yet. By the time they are I think you will be singing a different tune. Astro has got legs.

I'm not seeing it top in top 20 sells charts anymore. Anyway, it's a shame that gems like Astrobot, Indiana Jones, Prince of Persia Lost Crown Hi Fi Rush etc sell poorly/underwhelmingly while Fortnite, Madden, NBA 2K, Marvel Rivals, COD get all the sells.

Great seeing KCD2 and Expedition 33 do well though

Same source as the one in OP:

Doesn't matter if you question Astro Bot sales though.
Indy clearly is a flop.

117K copies..

Thanks for the link. I'll need to keep them in mind going forward.

So 2.32 million sold at an average price of $55, equals $127.6 million in revenue. That's really really good, when the game cost less than $40 million to make.

It's true and PS5 fans don't need to worry. MS needs every extra red cent they can squeeze out of these flops to keep gamepass running.

I don't know wtf they are going to do next gen. Market has soured on them, they are also the "US" console which is probably unpopular more now than before the trade war, and also apparently they are adding steam to the console so the MS store may not be the platform of choice by many users. It may be Steam's next console too.

I don't know wtf they are going to do but they are not in a good spot right now. They also aren't gonna change their strategy back easily, since they ripped the heart out of their fanboys with the exclusive sharing.

Proper fucked if you ask me, but what do I know.
The Xbox fanbase ultimately killed Xbox by hyping up GamePass and Xbox' mediocre output.

Best thing Xbox can do is just cut losses and become full-fledged 3rd party with a few key IPs, like Sega.

Imho.

The franchise just doesn't have the appeal they thought it did back when it was approved. Or maybe it's the direction they took. Glowing reviews aside, I can't help but feel that if the execution was more inspired by uncharted it could have been a lot more successful.

They should have released it before the most recent movie, to maximize hype for both the game and movie.

Releasing the game before the movie would have helped, as the game is good and would have created hype for the movie.

Unfortunately the movie wasn't that good, and probably killed a fair bit of hype for the game.

Those numbers are just painful to look at after completing the game. These devs deserve the world for what they achieved.

I would have been all over this day 0 if it were third person. Now it's on a backburner for a deep, deep sale.
Legitimately one of the best games I've ever played.

Left me speechless throughout. One of those very rare games nowadays that fully respects the player intelligence, constantly. Exploration is deep and always organic with a true sense of wonder and discovery, meaningful side content masterfully intersected with the main plot, and the actual plot is pure brilliance.

It's a masterpiece, worthy of the original trilogy, blatantly made with pure LOVE and respect for the source material. Would never work as well as it did in third person.

I feel a genuine desire to thank Todd and MachineGames for these 60 magical hours. Can't wait for the DLC.

That's absolutely pathetic for a console with an installed base of 75m AND are familiar with a AAA franchise like Astrobot from the off. Clearly PS5 owners don't appreciate quality even when its staring them in the face. Hopefully it will find a more welcoming home on PC when its ported.

Surprised considering the brand has been taking a beating with Disney as well and the last movie flopped so bad it has no chance to ever come back

Alright I guess, FPS Indy doesn't feel right to me and that douche voice actor is in every game, so that's annoying

All I care about is getting a sequel, don't matter where it sells. Just please sell enough!
Sales? Since when does Microsoft care about sales? It's engagement numbers that count, and just under 5 million players played this game so Microsoft doesn't need sales to make money you fool!

Low sales as it lacked game play for me at release price, those numbers arn't good for anyone and it was on game pass to just download, so where's the actual Xbox sales graph, the article just states Steam and PS5

117.2K sales in a week on a platform with ~70 million units sold, for a game based on a gargantuan IP, that reviewed well with both critics and players, has won several awards and was nominated for others?

Awkward The Office GIF

Doesn't matter how you slice it, those are abysmal numbers, almost to the point where I have a hard time believing them without disclosing all his sources.

It's sad to see. Does anyone have an idea why it underperforms like this? It's an amazing game. But maybe Indiana Jones is not a thing anymore.

Don't expect a sequel for this. Phil has already said he's not a fan of licensed IPs. Even when confronted with this again after the game dropped he gave a vague answer but reiterated that he wants his teams working on all the IPs they own. Which makes sense they own so many IPs why continue to license out IPs?

There is a reason why people call this site a sony hivemine fanboy infected site.
Actually, there was a poll recently and it's now PCgaf. Sonygaf only exists in your mind.

Gamepass was never sustainable. PS5 sales is only a bandaid. Eventually gmepass will have to go. Without console subs to prop it up next gen, I don't know what MS is gonna do. They have a lot riding on the next console selling well, so it better not be $1,200 dollars or something....methinks they should not be adding steam to the next xbox at this point.
Was there something specific about this news that you see as evidence of gamepass's unsustainability or was this more of a sidebar?

Everybody thinks there is some magic thing we don't know that is making gamepass be sustainable and make good business sense, but probably not.

I don't think anybody has suggested such a magical thing exists.

1.5 million seems underwhelming for a platform with 65milliom-70million and won GOTY by 90% of all outlets imo.

Indy was made by a small team as well
it's a game celebrating everything PlayStation with a mascot that comes from an add-on peripheral and also a platformer not called Mario_something which is the only brand capable to sell platformers in this day and age, it did great, sure it deserved more, but a platformer in 2024 won't sell huge numbers, this isn't the 90s

I love Indiana Jones a ton, but this game... I don't know why people were saying this was GOTY for them. It's very linear, and the combat isn't very good. The only thing it has going for it is Indy and the story seems really good. But I'm playing a video game, not watching a movie. The actual gameplay is just weak. After Uncharted 4, why couldn't we get that?!

The real story here is actually that the sales numbers seem quite low in general for the game.

I think they vastly overestimated how relevant the Indiana Jones IP is to people. Young people don't give a shit about it and I think even many 30+ years olds that might have grown up loving the movies don't have this strong urge for new Indiana Jones content (those 2 terrible newer movies didn't help either).

Indiana Jones is a great character but the concept is easier to imitate than something like Star Wars. IMO games like Uncharted and Tomb Raider actually do a good job scratching that treasure hunting adventure itch, meanwhile some generic Sci Fi game won't scratch the Star Wars itch because the SW vehicles, alien races, characters, weapons, enemies, etc are super iconic.

We all know how this is gonna go now. MS is actually the biggest 3rd party dev in the world now. Their games will be everywhere.

I wonder if they Will they even come to Apple? OR will MS say "Absolutely not!".

Edit: It also tells me, MS wants ROI on those gaming acquisitions.

The console with the larger install base and no gamepass sold more. Not newsworthy.

Plus, Xbox players paid $19.99 to play it and PlayStation players paid $69.99 to play it. Why would Xbox players pay $69 when they don't have to? Play it on gamepass and if they want to own, they can buy it on sale a year from now.

It couldn't be any further from linear, not on its main three giant-ass hub worlds. I am a massive Uncharted fan and genuinely believe Uncharted 4 in terms of a videogame, with actual gameplay agency, true exploration, is a literal piece of trash in comparison to this.

After Uncharted 4, why couldn't we get that?!
Because we already got that, and nobody can do polish, animations, and many other things as good as Naughty Dog.

We got a much better videogame instead.
