In the UK, JP1 is having a cinema re-release in the run-up to the bluray release. I was going to watch JP3 with the kids this weekend (already seen 1 and 2), but tempted to go and watch the first one on the big screen with them.

I'd be in the dick
I'll buy this based on the price. I love 1 and also liked Lost World quite a bit but I don't want to pay much of a premium for 3.

Can't wait to rewatch these movies (well, the first two at least). The original Jurasic Park was such an amazing film, especially to the 6 year old me who loved Dinosaurs more than anything on the planet. Did not get to see it in theaters though. I did however see The Lost World in theaters and fuck the shit that people give that movie. It was amazing. Raptors in the tall grass, T-rex in the city, shit was just great. Three sucked, no arguments there.

And yes the T-rex in Jurassic Park still shits on 99% of the CG out there. Such an astounding accomplishment.

Heh, strategically placed car censorship

And yeah, I definitely waiting on the individual release of the first one.

1 > 3 > 2

Is that the general consensus?

not really IMO. 1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2>>>>>3

3 was godawful in every way, shape, and form.

3 was so awful I do not even consider it JP. 2 was only bad after city parts. 1 is classic.

don't remember 3. surely not *that* bad? Ok for kids that like dinosaurs?

I'm desperate to see some screens from this. I want it badly and I've got my finger hovering over the preorder button but Universal's track record on remasters is pretty awful.

As I have gotten older I have come to realize that the original Jurassic Park is merely a film of great set pieces. After the nighttime T-Rex sequence it goes downhill fast.

One of the best movie moments of all time... I remember watching that T-Rex escape as a youngster in the theater. I was holding on to the arm rests so hard, totally fixated on what was happening on the screen. Half scared to death, half amazed.

Same for me. I think this also released around the same time as Dolby Digital or DTS or SDDS (one of those) and the sound was absolutely UNREAL

This, the Star Wars and LOTR EE are the only reasons I'm finally buying a Blu Ray player.

Really? Man, there ares sooo many other good reasons to own a blu-ray player. You are missing out.

Jurassic Park was the first film in DTS, so it is their baby.

First movie is one of the best movies ever made. 2 is not very good but 3 is the pinnacle of crap.

In my opinion they should have gone back to Islar Nublar in the second movie. I want to see how it looks like after all these years...plus the theme park set creates the best atmosphere.

Why would anyone want 2 or 3?

Because they were just fine as popcorn flicks.

They certainly aren't as well put together as the first one, but both of them had decent moments and would look and sound nice on my setup. I'm not waiting to get this.

Doesn't feel right buying this when the 4th one is coming, I bet there's another compilation box. Just want the first one individually.

is it remastered? reading some impressions for the cinema re-release and its sounding grainy. Maybe they aren't using the remaster for the cinema and its just a quick cash-in during a quiet period..

Same reasons people wanted 2 and 3 of BTTF or 3 and 4 of Alien - they are either masochists or completely blind to the avalanche-esque drop in every single facet of filmmaking between the first film (in the Alieen case, the first two films) and the subsequent ones.

As was the case with the Alien set, and as will be the case with the BTTF set sooner or later, a patient person will be rewarded when they release the JP individually a year from now.

My problem with 3 is how the Spinosaurus escaped T-Rexes jaw. I wanted to walk out of the theater at that moment. Just all kinds of WTF.
I was just about done with the dreams of talking velociraptors.

But the cell phone in the dinosaur's stomach that everyone can hear didn't bug you?

This is why the next movie cannot be JP4 but an entirely new reboot. Feathers, sizes, characteristics, coloring... there's been so many advancements with dinosaur knowledge since the books and movies.
