The guy getting eaten here is David Koepp, who co-wrote Jurassic Park (with Michael Critchton) and wrote all of Lost World.

He also wrote Spider-man 1, Toy Soldiers, Carlito's Way, Stir of Echoes, Panic Room, War of the Worlds, Taking of Pelham 1 2 3......and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.

Yeah the raptors in the movies are not Velicoraptor but their bigger cousin Deinonychus. Same family, bigger size. There are bigger ones as well.

I never knew there was a JP3.

Regardless of what some may say, it's not half bad.

Same reasons people wanted 2 and 3 of BTTF or 3 and 4 of Alien - they are either masochists or completely blind to the avalanche-esque drop in every single facet of filmmaking between the first film (in the Alieen case, the first two films) and the subsequent ones.

As was the case with the Alien set, and as will be the case with the BTTF set sooner or later, a patient person will be rewarded when they release the JP individually a year from now.

or why people still like watching Roger Moore James Bond movies..

The velociraptor's sizes were based on actual findings, they just turned out to not be velociraptors. So just think of it as applying the wrong name (and ribbing it of feathers) and you can still scientifically enjoy the thrills of the JP raptors.

JP1 is one of my favorite movies ever. Can't wait for this.

And unlike popular opinion, I don't mind the sequels. Not near as good as the first, but I can watch them for the simple case of I love me some dinosaurs.

Nice to hear but will pass. I already own the trilogy on DVD and I am not a person to buy two copies of the same movie just for higher rez.

Has anyone read the novel recently, is it worth a re-read? I read it back before the movie came out, but haven't done it since - I always liked the more "crafty" ending of the novel, though what Spielberg did for the movie definitely probably was the better thing for the film.

Same here but for me it's only the first I want. The 2nd was just awful. The third was bearable but still not worth watching again. It really is sad how badly they screwed up the franchise.

I read it all the time. Way better than any of the movies. The suspense builds up so much better than JP1.

That sucks. I thought the 2nd one was great, especially how different it was from the first one, while still continuing the story. It was also very exciting.

However, JP3 was the black sheep of the series. A rehash of the first one, but inferior in every way.

dumb useless shit

i just want to know if the transfer is upto hd spec or not

It's better than the shitty standard edition the US is getting, with crap packaging, and no goodies for almost the same price (at least when I pre-ordered it).

The second could have had potential had it not been a theme park in the middle of San Francisco. Also did not like the daughter. The T Rex rampage in the city was just the final nail in the coffin that was that movie. I actually liked the idea of the 3rd though. If the reason for going back had changed and they had dropped the kid and his parents from it, then it could have been a lot better.

I used to think JP3 was an alright movie but it was on TV recently and well that changed my opinion fast.

Tea and Macy do a great job though.
Elevate a shitty script.

Those are some of the most notable parts of the movie. The daughter was definetaly missing a scene explaining that she could do that somersault thing (casually bringing it up in the middle of a conversation doesn't count), but the San Diego theme park and the T-Rex rampage was one of the best ideas for the movie.

The scenes where we first see the San Diego Jurassic Park, and when the barge rams into the harbor are fantastic scenes.

I never understood how the people on the barge all got eaten, esspecially the captain where his hand was still on the controls? The trex was down bellow! and even if it wasnt, how did it get into the command deck?

Exactly. You have dinos that magically eat everyone on the ship while managing to seal themselves back in the cargo bay. That is just one example of how damn stupid that part was.

Let's also forget that this ship rammed the dock at high speeds yet is somehow totally unscathed by that. Of course the dino in said cargo bay is not totally pissed off and trying it's damnedest to get out. It's going to be all quiet until they open the cargo bay. Course they're stupid enough to do that too. Gee we only have a freaking T Rex on board. Let's just let that baby open right on up without checking shit.

I could go on and on but I'll just shut up now about it. Everyone is more then free to like whatever they want. If you like the 2nd one then hey good for you. I mean that too. Either way we'll all eventually be able to get the Jurrasic Park film we all like when they decide not to bundle them.

Is this available in the US or no? I like the packaging and the prints it comes with, and honestly wouldn't mind double dipping for JP.. I would really like that as well as the collectors edition, even if the statue sucks.

I went to see the original film today in the cinema, was actually sold out and mostly full of parents and their kids aged about 8-14.

Was really great seeing this again on the big screen and the print looks great. Most of the CGI effects have aged quite well, there are one or two shots that look slightly off, but there are very few and far between and involve the stop motion effects.

I did love hearing all the kids gasp at the sight of the Brachiosaurus or when the kid beside me asked his dad just before the T Rex attack "what's making the water move?"

I was 11 when I first saw the film and it really did take me back. I really did love seeing the physical Stan Winston effects which to this day still stand up and look really convincing.

Raptors. It confused me for years as well, until I heard that a scene where the boat radios about raptors getting out of cages, or something like that, was cut from the movie. So instead we have a scene that makes absolutely no sense.

Right, just assume the frog DNA replaced the part of DNA that would give them feathers.

Yeah, a lot of people miss that. The dinosaurs in these films, and books, aren't real dinosaurs. They're more like mythological chimera, with DNA composed of multiple species, with Henry Wu tinkering with their genetic make-up to make them fall in line with our preconceptions of what we think dinosaurs looked and acted like.

This thread made me want to watch The Lost World again. I remember seeing it as a kid and not liking it. I thought I'd give it another shot now that I'm twice as old as I was the first time.

What a terrible movie. There wasn't an ounce of believability in the whole thing. There were so many "wtf, why would they even do that" moments. I refuse to believe this was actually directed by Steven Spielberg. I have to assume he had a body double work on this while he was off doing something worthwhile. I almost wish I had written some notes down while I watched it so I could list the inconsistencies and examples of the atrocious writing. I never read the book, and if it's anywhere near as bad as this movie then I'm glad I didn't waste my time.

The book is great despite being inconsistent with the first novel. I just bought the kindle version recently as the last time I read it was 5 or 6 years ago. It is NOTHING like the movie from what I remember.

Lost World, never again

First movie only or bust

Word. I bought the Alien Blu-Ray box when it came out, and while the set itself is a thing of beauty, the only movie worth owning out of that quadrilogy is the first. I refuse to get burned again out of boxed set excitement, and will wait for JP1's lone blu, which I'm sure will be out in mere months.
