Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

I'm living in a communal house in Cincinnati with 2 German women, a PC-only gamer, and a community outreach organizer and I introduced them all to Nintendo Land tonight. Best night we've had yet - it beat out our favorite board games and launched itself into our new favorite thing to do together. It was a blast!

Afterward, we got some Just Dance 2 going while the PC gamer and I played League of Legends. It was a wonderful night and it's great to see people enjoying my Wii U so much.

The community outreach organizer even commented on how everyone she knew was making fun of the wii u when it came out and she's surprised that it's so much fun. I really hate the videogame industry sometimes and how vocally anti-Nintendo it is.

[edit] In conclusion, don't forget about Nintendo Land! It's a party for 5!

I would get Wii Party U also. It is a blast also. Not 5 player but 4 is still good.

Amazon has the New Super Mario Bros. U Bundle for £219.99 right now.

I see they also offer a LEGO City Bundle with Rayman Legends for £249. Both of those are great games!

I figured that this is as good of a thread as any to ask about this..

What is my best option for an extended battery for my wii u gamepad? I saw that there were some batteries on Ebay, but they are chinese knockoffs. I am a little hesitant to buy a battery that is supposedly 3000 mah that may or may not damage the gamepad.

I would love to get an official Nintendo one, but I can't find anyplace selling them for a reasonable amount.

Nintendo has an official battery out that is a larger size.
I also think Nyko has them and they got decent reviews.

To me, I dont get any console for just exclusives although thats what I mostly prefer, I get 3rd party games multiplatform or not all the time. I kinda have a beef with people who says "I only buy nintendo games for my nintendo console" and dont even look at anything else, nintendo was actually trying to change the mindset alot during both the 3DS and the wii U launch but the people who actually buy the consoles only stick to that mindset.

I think the more common mind set is "only buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games", which makes sense these days as you can count on 1st party games, but only occasionally really good third party stuff, whether exclusive or multiplat.

I got mine from Play-Asia (Link). I think I paid $1 for shipping, so it was far less than $70.

Great, I will have to put an order in. Is it a noticeable difference from the standard battery?

$15 shipping. ouch.. going to end up being close to $50.. Might wait a little before ordering it.

Huge improvement. For me it has made battery life a complete non-issue and has expanded the ways I'm able to use the Gamepad (internet browsing, video streaming) without having to worry about running out of juice. It's unfortunate it's not shipped with it by default but I definitely recommend it if the price isn't an obstacle.

I was also thinking of the same reasons, but the Zelda pad is nice and I am thinking I'm going to get enough Mario with 3D world. But maybe I'm just fooling myself :)

That's pretty much my thinking for why I got the Zelda bundle instead of the Mario bundle. In fact I sold my WW code because I'd already played the GC release multiple times in 2003 and didn't want to go through it again.

I know it's forever away... but do you think they'd do a special Bayonetta 2 console/bundle when that comes out?

I kind of want to just buy a Wii U to really enjoy Super Mario 3D World- but I'm hesitating, worried that maybe they'll do some awesome bundle that I'd be kicking myself over :/

I REALLY don't think there's going to be a Bayo 2 bundle.

Not able to decide beteende Mario or Zelda bundle...
Which one would you opt for?

Technically, Mario is a slightly better deal because you get Luigi in there too. And as others said, it's physical, and Zelda is not, and Zelda you can get the CE with the statue. It seems like all things being equal, unless you care about digital Hyrule Historia and the Zelda aesthetic of the console, Mario/Luigi is the best deal.

I loved the Wii U but ended up selling it a few months ago. Shame, as I really loved the off screen play and look forward to it on the PS4. It's just that it got to to a point where I couldn't see anything coming out that I really wanted.

Also with Nintendo's track record I didn't want to spend alot of cash on the eShop as I could end up losing all purchases down the road if the console went belly up. I only ended up buying the 50p games (which included Super Metroid, which was awesome) but that wasn't enough for me to keep the console.

I can't believe Nintendo hasn't got hundreds of games on the eShop for Nes/Snes/N64/Cube as this would help the console but Nintendo will be Nintendo, where they drip feed games, which ends up frustrating the consumer.

Just bought mine last night in prep for 3D Land. Playing 101 on my TV and then moving my session to the gamepad just blows my mind

I think they really could of helped with the drought by stacking the eshop with content. Amazing that the eshop wasnt even ready for 6 months.

This thread is wonderful! Thanks for starting it- got me pretty inspired/invested in really getting the system in time for 3D World.

I knew I'd get a Wii U soon, but this definitely built major excitement!

It's a great time to jump in. Lots of good games to play right now and more to come early next year.

Donkey Kong in February which is pretty sweet. Do we know of any other release dates after that?

MK8 is set for "Spring" but other than that it's all TBA or a generic 2014 date. Expect more details in the first few 2014 Nintendo Directs. Or maybe a surprise December edition.

Got my Wii U today and it's currently updating. Was a bit hesitant to get it since UPS was delivering it and just last week I sent off my Metal Gear Rising lamp to Konami to get replaced and UPS brought it back to me after a few days all smashed with broken glass in the box. Luckily the Wii U came even better than I expected. I had bought it used from Cowboom and it was a grade 5, which can be hit or miss. The thing looks flawless and had the original box and everything. I freaking love Cowboom. It seems as if they use a random number generator to choose a price sometimes though which can work in your favor. If you keep checking you can find one cheap. Mine was 169 before tax. Time to play some Wonderful 101.

Just picked up the black 32gb model on Craigslist for $300 with NSMBU and The Last Story Wii (sealed w/ artbook), a couple of Wiimotes and a classic controller, and 2 years left on the extended warranty the guy had bought.

Updating now :)

What's the consensus on The Last Story? Was thinking I might sell it to offset the cost of the Wii U (and I know I want to get Xenoblade eventually). Also gonna sell the controllers since I have a Wii and controllers already, so I think I got a pretty good deal! :)

Can't wait to pick up NSLU, W101, Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World! Just wish I hadn't missed out on the Target b2g1 :(

I personally loved Last Story. Great change of pace yet still tasting like an old school JRPG. Combat was awesome.

Xenoblade and The Last Story are the cream of the crop when it comes to JRPGs on consoles these days. TLS's awesome battle system, characters, world design, music, humor and voice acting makes it stand a wonderful companion to Xenoblade which is oh so very different. Seriously, I laugh at everyone crying over the downfall of JRPGs and only putting faith in Final Fantasy when they have not played those two masterpieces. Do not sell! Play and bask in its glory!

I haven't played TLS, but Xenoblade was mostly a chore to play. I wasn't a huge fan of Baten Kaitos, but Xenoblade still felt like a giant step back with somehow even worse dialogue and dramatically worse combat.

Do Wii games run a lot better on the Wii U? The Last Story's framerate was almost unplayable for me on the Wii.
Assuming you have a decent TV, Wii games will look and run exactly the same as with a Wii. If you have a cheap TV with a poor scaler, the graphics may look a little more detailed due to Wii U scaler.

I'm afraid that probably means it's failing. My original "sensor" bar (from 2008) had the entire right side go dead.

In that case my sensor bar would be on the way out since launch :)

The blinking is regular, but at low intervals,, like every 3 seconds, or so.
I always assumed, and still do, that it is a feature.

I feel as though Im already approaching a hopeless addiction between checking on GAF via the Pad during playtime and posting cartoony pictures and snapshots on Miiverse.

Just ordered WWHD and SM3DW from BestBuy (along with ALBW and M&L:DT). Gonna be a very happy Xmas for me.

Also, I just started playing The Cave and it's awesome. You guys should grab that off the eShop immediately.
