Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Just ordered WWHD and SM3DW from BestBuy (along with ALBW and M&L:DT). Gonna be a very happy Xmas for me.

Also, I just started playing The Cave and it's awesome. You guys should grab that off the eShop immediately.
You should grab Toki Tori 2+ if you enjoyed The Cave, it's a much better game (one of the best games ever made in my opinion).

Just picked up the black 32gb model on Craigslist for $300 with NSMBU and The Last Story Wii (sealed w/ artbook), a couple of Wiimotes and a classic controller, and 2 years left on the extended warranty the guy had bought.

Updating now :)

What's the consensus on The Last Story? Was thinking I might sell it to offset the cost of the Wii U (and I know I want to get Xenoblade eventually). Also gonna sell the controllers since I have a Wii and controllers already, so I think I got a pretty good deal! :)

Can't wait to pick up NSLU, W101, Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World! Just wish I hadn't missed out on the Target b2g1 :(

The Last Story was nice, but it's no Xenoblade. Actually, in many ways it's the opposite of Xenoblade: nice character models, small environments, not too great a story, relatively short. I would definitely play it before Xenoblade, because when you're expecting Xenoblade-levels of awesome, you'll feel let down (like i did). Still a great game with an engaging battle system. It's not a game i would sell though.

I got my Wii Fit U Meter so now I can keep Wiii Fit U software indefinitely.

I had to borrow a Wii Balance Board from my mom. (I used to own Wii Fit, but sold it and the Wii long ago, I bought the Wii U at launch).

I did a 30 minute workout. Some games were too easy, some of the exercises were killing me. I think that is about right as you should have low and intense workouts. I think since I am so out of shape, instead of "random" I will choose light to ease myself into the program and prevent injury.

Great software though.

Really? I notice a lot of people like Toki Tori. I saw the eShop video but thought it looked kinda dumb.

EDIT: I trust GAF recommendations, so I'll check it out. Wish they had a demo.

I downloaded Toki Tori over the weekend and initially I was like "Hey this looks great and seems fun" and then it introduced the Braid-like time shift mechanics so I said "Nope".

I gotta give it another shot though.

It is so difficult to determine eshop and indie game quality by word of mouth.

For example: Hotline Miami and Spelunky. Both are highly-rated and highly-recommended. I played the Spelunky demo and got the PS+ version of Hotline Miami for Vita.

I don't like either game.

I never like to explore on a deadline, ever, terrible game design and unfun for me. - Spelunky
Hotline Miami when you get down to it is a very shallow, murder simulator. That is fine, not criticizing it, what I am criticizing is the depth.

However, there are indie games I really enjoyed: Binding of Isaac being one of them, Braid, is another. These games are so hit/miss that they really need to have a demo for all of them in order to determine if they are fun for you.

A demo wouldnt do any good to the game. Its a puzzle game, you learn how it works as long as you play it. If the demo was the first stage, people would say "what a dumb easy game, im not buying it". If it was from a later stage (even an early one), people would say "that´s impossible. This game is broken. Im not buying this"

I got the game. Paid 2 dollars for it. Its worth a lot more than that. I basically finished half of it. Its very very good.
Every time you finish a stage without help you feel like the smartest person on earth

Trine 2 is another game that comes highly recommended, but that I cannot stand to play. I played the original Trine on PC and enjoyed it, but Trine 2 felt so old hat. I got really bored, really quickly with juggling the 3 different characters and their powers. Just got tired of all the micromanagement.

I'm talking about do most games support it?

The CC for the Wii was barely supported by Nintendo.

Most games allow it, provided they don't require the Gamepad or Wiimote aiming for something (like ZombiU/Wii Party U etc). Best to check games individually.

posting this from wii-u pad. bought the wii u on ps4 release day also, just arrived today. loving it, first game was wonderful 101 and then some single player nintendoland. can't wait until wii u party this friday 4 wii-motes lined up and a bottle of rum

I bet you will be using the WiiU browser a lot from now on.

For gaf, for twitter (if its your thing) and, the crowd favorite, the "lets see one billion youtube videos.... on tv"

I know a lot of devices let you see youtube videos on tv. I have a tv with youtube and a Boxee. The boxee even have a qwerty keyboard on the remote controller. But nothing comes even close to how easy it is to find and play videos on your tv using the WiiU browser (AND you can keep browsing the internet and youtube while you watch the video on the internet)

Well, both Toki Tori and Toki Tori 2+ are great games, but Toki Tori it's just that, while Toki Tori 2+ it's like a new paradigm in game design.
Toki Tori is an enjoyable game, but it's nothing new. Toki Tori 2+ sets a precedent when it comes to EVOLVE the game design achieving something I've never seen in any other videogame. Truly fantastic.

Freezamite, is there a hidden Toki Tori-esque puzzle amidst your seemingly identical posts? *uses rewind song to spot new clues*

Argh. I need a Wii U by Friday and I'm not sure how to get it.
-There's one listed on Craigslist with some games but it was posted two weeks ago and the seller hasn't responded to my email. There's a great bundle that just got listed...in a city 2 hours away.
-There are some good bundles on eBay but I don't know if I want to spend the time vetting out which ones are good deals and bidding.
-I could suck it up and go to my local Target where they still have the NSMBU bundle in stock. But then I wouldn't have any other games and would have to pay tax.

WHAT DO I DO.

The Pro Controller is pretty widely supported. In fact I'd say most games support it? It seems only those that insist on Gamepad usage (like ZombiU, Lego City, etc.) do not.

Even ZombiU supports it. But for the multiplayer mode only. (Also supports Wiimote/Nunchuk in that mode)

quadruple post! Sorry!! O_O

Yeah, but I'm not the one who's whistling it!!!! XD

I gotta be honest.

The prospect of using nintendoland, wii party u, wii sports club, and maybe warioware as drinking games when Ivisit family and friends is actually the thing pushing me to buy this console the soonest. I can play mario and pikmin and the 101 any time but local multiplayer actually needs people.

Looks like I'm getting a wii u to play with my neice. People still playing monster hunter? Looks like it scratches a simlar itch to demon and dark souls.

Buy new system from target. Play. Then, within the next few weeks, buy a used or discounted system of the same type. Return that system with original reciept.

I have seriously responded to 5 different WiiU for sale ads in NYC over the past week. All of the ads look completely different, asking between $150-$250 for various 32 and 16 meg WiiUs with different games and different controllers. Written very differently from each other as well, with totally different pictures.

Every time I got a response like this:

Sorry, I sold it. But, check out (sketchy "auction" site)! I go there all the time to buy things cheap and sell them on Craigslist!

I've come to the conclusion that there isn't actually anything for sale on any NYC craigslist ad, it's all just some fucking scam.

You can return open box consoles to Target?

I wouldn't think the Wii U is a hot enough commodity to justify something weird like that.

Yeah... Don't do this. Apart from being shady as fuck, it also won't work. Pretty sure Target scans the serial number and puts it on the receipt. If the serial number doesn't match up - no return.
