Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

All depends on games. If you like those as much as I do, go for wiiu.
And add zombi. Should be cheap.
Next year for that price you can have ps4 with more games

I actually owned a Wii U before, but sold it, luckily for not much less than I paid for it, during the drought of games.

I'll probably stick with the PS4, just because I love Sony first party, but I may just have to get a Wii U after Christmas again, things may be cheaper again.

I'm getting a PS4 Killzone Mega Bundle for £465.

Out of interest, I went on to Amazon to see how much Wii U I could get for the same price.

I could get:

Wii U Deluxe
New Super Mario Bros. U
New Super Luigi U
Super Mario 3D World
Pikmin 3
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
The Wonderful 101

All for £365, £100 less than the PS4 bundle.

Now I'm having doubts about PS4.

That value for money.

Mario3DWorld supports Wii Pro Controller

https://vine.co/v/hF7wHguEJWD

Wii Classic Controller Pro is what it's called. Precision avoids confusion.

Wii Classic Controller Pro vs Wii U Pro Controller. It helps. You never know when someone was lazy and just forgot the U if you say "Wii Pro Controller."

Also, I tried to connect to the Wii eShop but couldn't. I think it's because my router is currently using WPA2 security, which the Wii U settings notified me wasn't compatible with the Wii. Anyone know what wireless configuration is preferred for use in Wii mode? Is it WEP? I've read this encryption is not very secure, so I've been reluctant to change it, but I'd love to be able to get some of the better VC games from the Wii eShop.

The Wii supports WPA2 just fine. Sure your router isn't just being weird? If your Wii U is online, you should just be able to go into the Wii Shop no problemo.

Every time I configure my internet connection in the Wii U settings, I get a message that says WPA2-TKIP in not supported in Wii mode, and then asks if I'd like to use it anyway. I looked into it and it looks like WPA2-PSK (AES) is supported, but not TKIP.

What Type of Wireless Security is the Wii Compatible With?
Answer:

The Wii Console is compatible with the following Wireless Security standards:

WEP
WPA
WPA-PSK (TKIP)
WPA-PSK (AES)
WPA2-PSK (AES)

Just bought one today, only got the Mario/Lugo pack, and even so I am pleasantly surprised. There really are too many good games on this to ignore now.

Shiny xbone and ps4 nearly had me, but common sense prevailed, both those systems will be a better bet after a years worth of releases.

Spent a week with the WiiU so far. NSMBU I hated but then I played with a friend and it was hilarious being dicks to one another. Not sure if I can play it alone though.

I'm the same with NSMB (both Wii and WiiU). I just can't play them alone, but if I have a mate to play with it's brilliant fun. After the first playthrough of screwing the other guy over, we go through again using team work to collect the big coins lol.

3D World will be the same but way better, plus it'll probably be ace singleplayer also, yay!

Wii U Deluxe
New Super Mario Bros. U
New Super Luigi U
Super Mario 3D World
Pikmin 3
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
The Wonderful 101

It's kinda crazy the value of the WiiU in the UK atm. GAME has a £220 Mario/Luigi+WiiSports bundle atm, and if you sold the games from that the WiiU would only have cost you ~£160, less than half what a £350 PS4 costs oO

Wii had no problem with wpa2 security. I used it for years and my Wii never had problems to connect. Same goes for Wii bc mode on Wii U.

Bought my WiiU about 5 months ago, got the deluxe bundle with nintendo land

Pretty much every game i've got so far have been awesome except for nintendo land (not very fond of these kind of games) but I must admit, the multiplayer gave me a bunch of joy.

Got so far:
- NSMBU (Luigi is to expensive around here) - Awesome 2D mario, much better than NSMB for the wii, mybe on par with mario world

- Monster Hunter 3: infinite hours of relaxation

- Splinter Cell Black ops: Excelent gamepad usage, pretty graphics, a very good game in general

- Zelda WW HD: no comments, simply the best on wiiU.

- ZombiU: feel like an underated game, it really makes me tense playing, brings back the feeling from old survival horrors.

- Sonic: Big eye candy with interesting level design, good for casual playtime.

- Assassins Creed IV: Runs great on wiiu, its beautiful, best assassins since AC2.

- Resident Evil Revelations: Great port from the 3ds, its a very nice RE game, much better than 5 or 6.

Going to get pikmin3 eventually (cant find it in any store for a decent price) and already pre-ordered mario 3d world

Loved the off-screen for virtual console
Great backward compatibility with Wii

Loved the system so far, it's a pitty Nintendo cant sell its idea.

The only thing that disappoints me so far is the virtual console library...

(sorry for the english mistakes)

What's the best option for multiplayer, a wiimote or the pro controller?

depends what games you want to play
wiimote plus is mandatory for i.e. Wii Sports Club.
Pro controller is useful for a lot of stuff (VC, CoD etc etc) and it is a controller made by the gods themselves. seriously, best controller I ever had in my hands.

I'd get both.

Wii had no problem with wpa2 security. I used it for years and my Wii never had problems to connect. Same goes for Wii bc mode on Wii U.

See above, Wii doesn't support all forms of WPA2 security (specifically TKIP).

Ordered a Hori Screen protector for the gamepad. Are they good? Any other good brands?

Hori is very good, it's what I have on mine. Nintendo offers an official screen protector that I haven't tried, so I can't comment on its quality, but knowing Nintendo I'm sure it's great.

The pro controller really is a blessing
Virtual console feels perfect with it.

I've been playing Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers with a friend (me on game pad and him on the pro controller), its just perfect.
Edit: It feels like playing on the SNES controller again, but made for my adult big hands.

Today, I have booked myself a trip to London. (Physical) Zombi U for 15€ and Bob's your uncle.

Now I am frightened!

Remember that ZombiU is on the eShop for 15 pounds if there's no cheap retail copy around.

But you would miss Knack.

Picked up a Mario Wii U today along with Zelda HD. Getting 3D World Friday. Setting up the Wii U now and holy shit is it awful. Taking forever. I hope after this first download and installation of new system code that this process occurs much faster in the future. Feels like I teleported back 8 years in time. Can't wait to eventually be able to load up the Animal Crossing background and play some games.

After the first update, all downloads can be done in the background or when the system is in sleep mode.

I as well made my "next-gen" decision and decided to jump in this fall to a Wii U after being all in on all three last gen but favouring the PS3, even in its underdog years (Warhawk, you carried me for too long, dear friend; rest now).

I've seen the Xbone and PS4 hit the market now, and I have no interest in either. This will be my last console; it's all mobile and PC after this if Nintendo doesn't serve me well, so I'm all in!

I picked up the Windwaker bundle along with the following:

  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist
  • ZombiU
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Need for Speed Most Wanted U
  • Wii Sports Club (Tennis)
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts
I've already played ME3 before on PC, but it was only $10, so I figured it'd be fun to have with the Gamepad additions.

I'm currently looking at the following additional purchases:
  • Rayman: Legends
  • Darksiders 2
  • Pokemon Rumble U
Given that Super Mario 3D World isn't going anywhere, I've been thinking I might hold off on it for now since there looks to be a lull for me coming (I don't like the DK platformers; too hard for me).

I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on Rumble U? I know it's reviews have been shite, but I picked up a Bulbasaur NFC toy and I kind of like the prospect of a really simple, cute, brainless basher that I can play with my girlfriend.

Sidebar: My girl is admittedly is awful at games and usually hates them if they aren't braindead simple, but surprisingly, the only thing she likes is ZombiU's multiplayer. She can handle the tablet and likes killing me. How the hell did Nintendo not sell the hell out of this on Ubisoft's behalf? It's like the only game that justifies the gamepad beyond remote play.

Final question: So yea, Rumble U? Is it at least fun for what it is?

Mario Land 3D World

That's a first one.

I am starting to consider Wii U as a possible xmas purchase...there are already enough games that warrant a buy from me, but I'm torn between this, a PS3 + all the 3rd party stuff / good sony exclusives I've missed out on this past gen, or just a couple more games for my 3ds. (the last non-handheld console I bought was in 07)

Gah. It'll boil down to how much I can afford and how often I'd get to play them.

Sorry to break this to you but the Animal Crossing Plaza does not replace the Wara Wara Plaza. It's a separate app.

Yeah it's good fun if you're looking for a game that lacks depth, and using the figures gives a sense of camaraderie with that Pokémon.

It gets tricky in parts, despite lack of depth, but yeah if you're wanting something simple then go for it :)

I thought it would be slow as a lot of people moaned about the initial update. When I set mine up today it took about 5mins. My broadband speed is about 8meg download.

There should be PSA every day that you don´t have to wait for the update. Just cancel it and start playing.

It will load in the background.

Okay, so my plan is to get a Wii U Mario Bundle along with SM3DL, Wonderful 101, and WW. I'm also looking to get some controllers to play the Mario games with other people.

So this is where I am getting confused. Should I just get the Wii U Pro Controller and a Nintendo Wii Remote Plus with Nunchuk? I would like to note that I plan to play Wii games on here as well. SMG 1 and 2 being the ones I am looking at first.

Found that out. Major disappointment. I won't be wasting my time with that now. Also, is there a way to turn off the Gamepad's screen in NSMBU? It's just mirroring what's on TV, which seems like a waste of battery.

You can turn it off but as soon as you press a button it'll turn back on. If you have a Wii U Pro Controller you could play with that and then turn the gamepad screen off. Otherwise, no dice. That said, NSMBU is a perfect Off-TV game. I completed 90+% of that game like that.

Did you buy a launch unit that didn't have the update or did you buy one of the new bundles because those obviously have the most (at the time they're manufactured of packaged) recent firmware installed.

Why are you buying a 3DS game with your Wii U?

I would hold off getting a Wii U Pro Controller. I could complain about the quality of the controller, but I won't. None of the games you're buying really need the Pro Controller. Wiimote + Nunchuk will do for Wii games.

So how do you do turn the Gamepad off and play on a Pro controller? Is it an option in the Home menu?

Sorry, Super Mario 3D World :P

And sounds good, I will go that route then. Thanks!

lol I was just wishing that was a feature a few hours ago. It's so hard not to heed the gamepad's beautiful siren song.

Question - I have no Internet (don't ask). If I buy a wii u can I play games out of the box or do I need to take it to a friends house with wifi first?

Nintendo's policy in the Wii days, from what I recall, was that if a game REQUIRED a system update to run that update MUST be contained on the game's disc.

I'm not 100% sure of that but this is Nintendo, they don't like to acknowledge the internet too much, much less depend on it. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Pretty sure the xbone is still the only console to ever need an internet update out of the box to run single player games, no? I think the ps4 has a day one update that doesn't lock you out of single player?

Been hunting for a Wii U deal all week. Seems like this will be the best deal, taken from CAG:

Are you going to Target for the 20% off everything(with exclusions) coupon on BF? Must spend $75 to get it and it is Valid 12/1-12/7. Just hold off on buying some stuff til' BF to get the coupon.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/...ff-an-entire-in-store-purchase-valid-121-127/

Also, eBay's going to have $100 Target gift cards for $90 on BF.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/...osts-3999-ipad-mini-16gb-239-112913-12am-est/

Wii U $300
-20% coupon $240
-5% If you have a Target Red Card $225
-$20 saved from getting 2 $100 GCs from eBay $205

Finally got the game plan figured out. This weekend, I'll pick up the WiiU with the NSMBU and NSLU disc, since you can't get that one outside of the bundle. Alongside the system, I'll get Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, and Wind Waker HD.

I'm still kinda amazed (and glad) that a system that was so weak that I didn't even bother to keep the thing once I picked up my preorder could be this enticing a year later. I'm really excited to get this.
