Since this seems like a general all-around Wii U thread, might as well ask here. As most of us know, the Wii U has, and will continue to have the industry's best local co-op. A result of such, my Wii U often travels to my friend's house.
The question is, is the Wii U's internet receiver crap? For some reason, it can never connect to the internet when next to his TV. His Wii and my 3DS can connect perfectly fine from around the same area. Is it really a matter of a few feet, considering I've been able to connect to the internet and browse the eShop (without a TV around) when I moved it to his second floor that has his router?
Edit: Misleading last sentence. I'm wondering if moving it a couple of feet from the TV would help things. I know the problem isn't the internet because it can connect if I move it 15 feet up as the router is almost directly above.

When I set mine up, it was pretty far from the router (at least 40 feet).
I found the Mario & Luigi bundle at a K-Mart today, and got a wireless pro controller at Wal-Mart. I haven't set it up yet. I'm running out of room!
I didn't find any screen protectors and I need to eventually order one (plus probably a screen protector and case for my 3DS XL too).

I'm a bit disappointed because it seems my only option is getting a Nintendo Land bundle, oh well... I hear it's a good game to play with my friends.

I had a similar issue to this, tried tons of changes to the network settings on both Wii U and the router and it wasn't working despite other devices reaching fine. Final solution was to move the router closer and it worked. If moving it closer isn't an option I recommend buying a range extender.

I went to my local Wal-Mart today, checked the Nintendo section expecting the usual stock of Wii U's next to the Wii's but guess what? All sold out of Wii U.........that Wii U pitch commercial kids edition just might have awakened some parents finally.

I am not sure if this will help but I had a sound bar with a wireless subwoofer connected to the TV my Wii U is on and if the sound bar was on it would disconnect my Wii U but if it was off it would work fine. I think it was some kind of wireless interference.
Land is really enjoyable even in single player.

I'm with Aostia here, NL is an amazing game and offers plenty for a single player experience. I think you will have a great time with it.

Just got the Mario and Luigi bundle. Also got Wind Waker HD, and Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed. As well the as the Pro controller.

In combination with people missing out on a PS4 at launch (sold out), getting caught in the "next-gen" hype... it may not be a bad thing to start pushing WiiU just now. I think many people either didn't know it existed (and will think it is just as new as PS4/XBO) or new what it was before. But this christmas is make or break, especially towards 3rd party multiplats. Maybe they can still pay for exclusivity here or there.
I have no technical info to say this for sure, but the WiiU does seems to have a tougher time getting the internet signal.
My wiiu is set on living room. The internet router in one of the bedrooms. When setting up the connection, i get full bars on the WiiU. Everything is fine.
Then im using the WiiU internet browser and suddenly the connection drops. No page loads correctly. At that exact same time, i open my 3ds and load web pages without any problems.
This happens a lot. And i usually open the 3DS to check if its the connection or the WiiU just lost it without reason. The results are always the same.
There can be any number of reasons for bad wifi, but the WiiU seems pretty good normally, so I would try different positions and moving it a bit further from the TV as you suggested. It might just be too close to the TV, as large metal objects can interfere with the wifi a bit, especially if they are in between the source and the receiver.

I think it's quite possible that it's sold out... because most retailers don't stock dozens of WiiU's anymore. So if you only have a handful of WiiU's in stock, a small surge (due to next-gen fever or due to a succesful adcampaign) and you're sold out before you know it.

This best buy near where I live seems to order lots of Wii U stock going by the number of WW and Mario & Luigi bundles in display, but there are so many so I assume they are selling.

I still have problems with Hulu (especially) and some other video networks dropping connection randomly and stopping the video with a playback error. Any advice?
I seem to remember having infrequent (what seemed like) drops when playing online but... i dont play Wii U online often.
My router is a Netgear Nighthawk and my network does require PPPoE. Only other thing I had problems with is my WP7 phone (Old Dell Venue Pro)

That's the perspective that I took last week when I bought my Wii U. There are a good bit of titles available, and a few more on the way that I'm excited about. I've got a tiny bit of buyer's remorse because it was that or a Vita (and I've got more games for Vita already than Wii U thanks to PS+), but I might just get myself a Christmas present if there are any deals on Vita's and their memory cards this season.
All told, I'm happy. I even managed to luck out with my treadmill and be able to rest the Wii U controller on it without it bumping all over the place.

You don't need the internet for anything. But I would highly recommend you bringing it to a friend's house and AT LEAST get the firmware up to the current version. Be aware that it might take a while to update, depending on if you happen to get one of the launch bundles that don't have even have the day-1 firmware update or you get a new model (the zelda/nsmbu&nslu or wii party u bundles).
The PS4 isn't really in short supply. So how many games are coming out for the PS4 in the next few months that you want? It isn't about the system, its about what you will be playing.
Mass Effect 3 on the Wii U was the first Mass Effect game I played. I enjoyed it. It felt wrong knowing that the wife bought it for me on my birthday from target, and paid full price for it. All the while knowing that it was less than $30 on amazon at the time. It was a birthday present so I was in a tough bind. That being said, I don't know how I would play the game without the map being on the gamepad. It added a lot to the experience.
Has anybody tried using the WiiU as a mediahub? Stream movies from your PC over wifi to your WiiU browser, so you can watch them fullscreen on your tv (as with youtube)?

Sorry to hear you have issues. You can try playing with the channel setting in the router. Mine is not near and has been working flawless **knocks on wood**

I go Hori all the way when it come to screen protectors. They go on easy and I have yet to have any issues with them.

Hopefully picking up a Wii-U off Craigslist, is there any issues clearing the system and setting up an account with a used Wii-U?

Otherwise I would have bought one off of Ebay when it was $249 at that one store.
It's the same at my local Targets. They sold out of the bundled Wii Us rather quickly.
It's not bad once you realize how many awesome games you'd be able to play.

I've used PlayOn before. It was "fine" for what it was. I haven't bothered with it for quite some time though.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did in some areas. The Wii U stock seems the same as it did during launch at my local stores. Even if they did limit the stock, I would think that if the item began selling that they would request for more to be shipped. There's still plenty of time before Christmas.
Wii U appears to be selling nicely at the moment. Amazon is out of stock on the Mario - Luigi bundle (they dont sell them directly, but they store them in their warehouses and sell them for other resellers), and the Target where I bought mine only had one left. The guy working in the department said they started with 15 bundles on Sunday, and now they're gone. So either Mario World is the savior, or it's just going to produce a minor bump.

Yes, at least they have enough time to adjust. Hoping it sells well, at least it looks like SM3DWhas made an impact.
Lets not forget that for the first time there is a marketing push for the Wii U, Wii U pitch, SM3DW, Wii Party U and Sonic Sochi Olympics commercials.
I think it is fair to say that even Nintendo believed the Wii U was not a good proposition at launch, this is the launch of the Wii U, bummer that they missed the opportunity of launching first.
