Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

So pumped for the games I've ordered! Zombi U, Assassin's Creed 3, and Monster Hunter 3 ultimate.

What's the best noob video series for MonHun?

I'm planning to pick up a Wii U tomorrow. One of the reasons it's extra tempting for me, is that I never bought a Wii. That automatically increases the games library by a lot, but there's one thing I don't really understand.

Reviews of Mario World 3D say you can also use the Wii Remote to play the game and since I plan on buying Mario Galaxy as well I'm gonna need one anyway.
My 2 questions are..

1. What's the difference between a regular Wii remote and + version?

2. As far as I can tell, the Wii remote+ doesn't come with a nunchuck. Do I need the nunchuck for Wii games or are they playable without one?

Dammit! I was gonna do the Toys R Us "Buy 1, get 1 40% off" with Super Mario 3D World and Wind Waker HD tomorrow, but Super Mario 3D World is sold out now. D: Maybe they will restock quickly. I wonder if that was an online-only deal or if it's available in the store.

1. Wii Motion Plus gives more precise controls and is a requirement for some games like Zelda: Skyward Sword.

2. What games do you want to play? The nunchuck is required to play games like the two Mario Galaxies and two Zeldas. If the games you want don't need it, you don't need to worry about it right now.

Ended up snagging a WW bundle for $250 Thanksgiving morning and am really happy with it so far (except the gamepad being a fricking fingerprint magnet). Do I need to pick up a Pro controller too? I will only be playing exclusives as I do all multi-platform games on my PC.

I don't see any scenario where it will be worth it, unless you want to play local multiplayer on a game where the second player insists on using a gamepad-like controller.

You don't need to, but its nice for some games. The Wonderful 101 is much better to play with the pro controller. It feels really comfortable, and the rumble is much better than the gamepads.

I'm sure bayo 2 will play much better with it, as well.

Smash bros might be another game.

I wouldn't get ZombiU if you typically don't like horror style games. I tried it and didn't like it so much. Didn't have the patience for it. It's certainly a good attempt at making a Wii U game though. It definitely makes full use of the controller.

If you can snag one for sub $20 it is definitely worth it if only to save wear on the Gamepad. Not to mention the battery lasts forever.

Thanks for the input, sounds like I can avoid getting one until I see a really good deal at some point.

That is a shame, ZombiU is a shinning light on the Wii U. Enjoyed it immensely.

Are there any outliers I should know about before using the Wii to Wii U system transfer?

Any saves that won't transfer? Is loading into the Wii side still a nightmare and super slow?

Unfortunately we get horror games so rarely because they ain't all that popular :( I seem to remember the low zombiU review scores mostly boiled down to "this wasn't an action game and I would prefer that genre to this one."

Given how big horror movies have been at some points, I feel like there's potential for there to eventually be a really massively popular franchise of horror games on the level of CoD's current success.

zombiu I think is one of the best launch games in recent memory and really hit on all the unique features of the console in a fresh and surprising way.

Extremely unfortante that it was blasted by several reviewers, and that people just didnt "get it". I also didnt understand why people said it was an ugly game. I still think ot has some of the best(artistically) lighting and styling, and atmoshpere around. Yes it is a bit rough in some spots, and a few character models arent too hot. But I still think it is a more solid and stable game than most AAA games.

I'm waiting for my copy in the mail but I've played the demo several times and you're absolutely correct. The lighting in this game is nothing short of out-of-this-world.

My WiiU is still in the mail but today I picked up:

Super Mario 3D World
ZombiU
Punch Out
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

I skipped the Wii entirely, and I'm almost glad about it now. It's kinda cool to buy a new console that's backwards compatible for a console you've never owned. So now am I not only excited about the big WiiU releases, but even during a software drought I can just spend my time hunting down classic Wii titles.

I also picked up a used Wii remote ($9.99) and used nunchuck ($17.99). Not a bad deal, but used controllers sure are icky. There's always weird dirt and grime in the grooves. Does Gamestop even bother to clean this stuff, or do they just test it and then stick it in a bag and sell it?

My experiences as a new Wii U owner were awful. Every 3rd party controller I tried was utter shit and a waste of money. Needing minutes of tips n' tricks to get them to sync if they even would, never mind KEEPING them synced.

I bought two $9 used official Wiimotes and have NEVER had an issue again. They are your best option, in my opinion.

You have to think, most folks who bought Wiimotes bought them as extras for Wii Sports or some shit, played the hell out of it for 2 months, and then probably sold them. I doubt that these used Wiimotes have seen too much use.

I bought an official remote and nunchuck so I am not too concerned about reliability. They just look kinda used and dirty.

If I'm not interested in Zelda: Skyward Sword or Wii Sports Resort, is there any reason I should want to pick up a Motion Plus remote?

I fucking LOVE SH: SM. One of my favorite Wii games.

Fuck yeah.

A lot of Wii U games that use the Wiimote (such as Nintendoland) use only the Motion+ variety. It adds smoothness in games like Pikmin 3.

Happy to see so many people buying Wii Us. I decided to hold out on a PS4 and get a Wii U instead, I'll get a PS4 when the demand isn't so high and there's more games out. Wii U has more games out that I want for it than any of the other new consoles, I'm gonna pick up the Zelda bundle next week. Pretty excited to try out WWHD and SM3DW. Might grab CoD Ghosts and Monster Hunter too.

If I imported one of those High Capacity Batteries would they work on a gamepad from any region? Sorry if that's sounds like a dumb question, I honestly don't know.

On the most recent episode of Nintendo Voice Chat they said that the battery was region agnostic, if memory serves. I was wondering the same thing myself!

No new thread for me so I'll leave that here : Wii U sold 175 000 units after almost one year in France (source Nintendo at Paris Games Week early november). As you remember, Microsoft sold 150 000 Xbox One in UK in 48 hours only. So I wouldn't be surprised to see the PS4 already ahead the Wii U in Europe. You can also note that France is usually a excellent market for Nintendo.

Also, France's contribution is 2,1 millions 3DS (on 35 millions worldwide) and 220 000 French purchased Pokemon X & Y in 3 weeks.

And finally there are 6 millions Wii in France (I think the PS3 has not crossed the 5 millions yet, but it is SCE France's goal for the end of this year).

What's the going price for Zelda:WW HD download codes? I imagine a lot of people buying the bundle aren't really that interested in playing the game, so that might make it kinda cheap. I could do Wind Waker again for $20 or maybe $30, but not $50. I guess it's smart of Nintendo to only offer downloads of bundled games, since that way the used game market doesn't get flooded with copies of pack-in games (NintendoLand is $14.99 at Gamestop). At the same time it's not really helpful for those of us that are cheap gamers :)

Maybe it's a dumb question, is control any smoother in non-M+ games if you use the M+ controller?

Silent Hill 1 is one of the only games I think that ever made me scared or genuinely disturbed, despite the low-res graphics and 20FPS gameplay. I hope the remake doesn't disappoint.

But how many Wii Us were sold in the UK in the last year? I know it has negative shipments obviously but sales..?

Q2 2013:

Japan: 140,000
Americas: 170,000
Europe: (-20,000)
Total: 310,000

Wii U has sold about 1.01 million in Europe as of October 1st, 2013. It's probably gone up slightly since then, but I'm sure PS4 has already outsold it LTD.

Impulse bought one today while at a store during black friday. I feel kinda bad for doing it as there's only a handful of games I'm interested in... and I do think the damn thing is overpriced. Oh well :(

edit: Fuck I just realized.... monster hunter is on this god damned thing...

Believe me, you'll love it!

If I had to recommend you games:

Mario 3D World
Pikmin 3
W101
Monster Hunter 3U

We need an EO than has the map on the bottom screen ;_;

I found a really nice offer for a used Wii U, 320 euros for premium, with Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, (and FIFA 13 and BLOPS2 which will go straight to trade for 3D World).

My question is, what happens with accounts etc. Will I be able to delete the previous user's Nintendo account, and make my own? I understand any content he might have had will be lost, but I don't really care to be honest.

Everything transfers. The system transfer is the one way to move those previously locked-down saves like Brawl. The one and only game that doesn't transfer is the original LostWinds (WiIWare). There's a message on the Wii Shop about it.

Loading into Wii Mode never was a nightmare or super slow. Don't know where you got that from.

If I get a JP WiiU, can I transfer over my VC stuff from ny NA Wii?

No.

Maybe it's a dumb question, is control any smoother in non-M+ games if you use the M+ controller?

No. Games can't use what they don't know exists.

Yes, you can delete everything and make your own NNID, naturally.

Turns out the Zelda WWHD game is bought from the e-shop.

What happens if I buy the system from him? Can I make my own account? Will I be able to play the game? What if I delete his account? What if he gets another WiiU at some point and transfers his account to that?

Guys I really need some help here. If this is the wrong thread please tell me where to ask.

I JUST answered the question above this post...

All purchases are tied to the NNID. The NNID is currently tied to the console. He'd have to do some customer service magic to get his account off of your Wii U at a later point. If you delete the account, I think, the game stays on your console but you'll never be able to redownload it.

And of course you can make your own account. You can put up to 12 accounts on one WiiU, iirc.

Yes I'm really sorry, I didn't see your answer, I edited my post afterwards.

Thanks for the help! I think I'm gonna go for it!
